It is way better than a fan story simply because you have more options regarding whether you want to be a paid member or be on the site for free. Fan Story doesn't have the free option.
The owner of the website Kevin is a left wing liberal $#*!. Completely dismissed the harassment and trolling bull$#*! I had to deal with another member talking about me and my family, because of his political views he was defending the other member & the "Palestinian conflict"

The site wants your poems. It has a way of getting you like 3 reviews for each piece. It also has a "picked" category everyday,..., but it will never be one of your poems. I waited almost half a year and nothing. Suffiice to say its very guided towardds what KEVIN sees as fitting. Screw that dude - put your poetry somewhere it is appreciated. - Dont even reply Kevin, I already know you are a loser.
I got AP probably before 6 and halve years before, then i started to read poems to ease my lone wretched mind on street life; now i am in it to invent more than 165 poetry styles and to promote all to the world, probably not but surely became the only poet of the world by my inventions. AP is my beloved university.
I've been on the site for about 7 years and I love it. It has a few problems basically because poets are weirdos. But still the best site without a doubt for poetry online.Definitely the biggest. They need to get a better posting board system Instead of trying to make you comment and a few other things but it's pretty close to being perfect. And if you're looking to hook up with somebody there's plenty of people on the prowl. So going over to all poetry get creative and you might even get lucky. Lol

I have been threatened by someone on there who said they'd kill me. I've been sexually harassed on there and people write a lot about lucifer on there calling themselves Satan and people are always stalking you on it and you can make more than one account for the same person under a different name and once caught they delete the profile. This has been going for years. Of all the poets they claim to have on their site, you get no feedback they just rate your poem from 1-6 and barely anyone reads your writings.
Sorry you had a bad experience with a user. That poem is definitely disturbing but how could you tell it was meant "at" a particular person? We are a moderated site, so please let us know with example links if something like this happens ( it's VERY rare!) via the gear icon at the top right -> contact us. We don't do poem "ratings" with 1-6 so no sure what you mean by that. You can rate comments, though.
Its too bad that one rotten disgusting reverse racist
Is being allowed to taint the pages herein.
And YES "dude"/you are a full blown TROLL.
Sorry you were having trouble with another member :( Please contact our moderators (gear icon -> Contact us) so we can take a look. There's also blocking controls in Gear icon -> Favorites & Ignore.
I have been a member of All Poetry for about five years. The site is excellent for poets as the range of contests are great and keep you writing with plenty of ideas for poetry prompts. If you want serious feedback you can ask for it. Lots of great groups for improving your poetry. Without this site I would never have managed to create a collection which is now being published. Thanks Kevin.
Thanks Lynsey
Tip for consumers:
A great site full of emerging and experienced poetry. Great ideas. You will never run out of ideas to write about. For me I even get ideas for short stories, non fiction and picture books. A poem leads to many other writing ventures.
All Poetry is one of the best platform to let new writers showcase their poems to the readers. I am absolutely loving it.
This guy deleted my poetry said he couldn't get it back I was too while 100 poems I rolled the site has many fans. He blocked and hid my poems. He took from my future if writing and my fans base. This site is disgrace. Use have copy write not that's my even in the label. I would not trust this site.

I'm not sure what your account name is, but the #1 cause of this is usually folks accidentally making a second account when their poems are on the other account. We haven't had any data loss or been hacked in our 22 years in operation. Make sure you use a unique password for each site and/or check https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if another site has compromised that login/password combination.
Idk I find it kind of interesting that one of the main gripes a lot of people are mentioning is that they don't get comments unless they go engage with other users. I mean I actually think that is one of the great things about this poetry community. It seems rather selfish to think you should get to just sit back and play the superstar reveling in praise whilst barely doling any out yourself. "You gotta go and talk to people, get friends and chill..." I mean jeez what a horrible thing. As far as contests go, I was under the impression anybody could conduct one, so why not go conduct the kind of contest you'd like to see rather than condemn the efforts of others. I also just want to add that after reading all the negative comments, I have more respect for Kevin, even if I haven't always appreciated his comments on my poetry, I respect that he addressed many of the negative comments and stayed calm and respectful even with the ones that included personal attacks.
I gave the site 3 stars because I don't find myself drawn to using it much. Maybe it deserves better than that but I tend to reserve four and fives to sites that blow my mind or have some real poignant value to society. I'm also a bit turned off by the amount a pro subscription costs, I mean maybe it's not so expensive for some people but it's an amount I really can't afford. That said, I do appreciate that the site offers a lot to free users. So really that's kind of non-issue. Though, I would like it if free users were allowed to include images within poem posts. In any case, I do recommend the site if you want a nice place to put your poetry and don't mind engaging with and encouraging other writers whilst doing so.

This site is not about products.
So far (in three months)I have had a positive experience. I mainly wanted to see if I really was a poet or not. I've decided after posting over 20 poems that I will pursue writing it. I've only had one sarcastic review which was I suppose an attempt at being witty. I think it is important though to belong to a group of friends on the site.

Make sure you are a poet.

This site has had me grow so much in poetry. If users give me obsolete comments, I ignore them, which leaves the really good, thorough critiques and comments left. People complain about such, but all sites have people only there for points. But what matters is that there are those who will give you good feedback nevertheless, on AllPoetry.com.
First, Kevin and the other moderators do an admirable job of dealing with such a wide variation in people (many countries), expertise, opinions, attitudes, etc. I have been a member for close to 2 years and the best things are: you are free to post poetry of any type, any caliber, any opinion (almost), any subject. There are free tutorials, forums, contests, idea prompts, and exposure to many types of poetry you might not discover otherwise. Another good thing is that you can "ignore" or hide the poetry and comments of annoying members, and you can delete their comments from your comment history. You can also contact the administrators of the site with problems or questions and they are quick to respond. The negative things about AllPoetry are those you find on all such open creative sites. There are weirdos, trolls, angry people, and many who disgracefully write dozens of meaningless comments a day to compete for "top commentor" which only generates site traffic and nothing more. But we all know this. It is a pain to sift through hundreds of really, really bad poems to find a few that are worth "liking." And the "liking" is also used by many as a kind of social media thing -- I will like yours so you will like mine. And for me that is distasteful and hard to ignore. I am not there to generate "likes" but I am aware that if I do not engage in the social media kind of exchanges, I am unlikely to get many. Because so many people post, new poems are very quickly relegated to 10 pages on down the line. So it is important to follow those poets you like so you can go directly to their work and avoid the trash. Also, you can ask for critiques all you want and no one gives them. Probably because they want to make a short comment, garner more "stars" for their crowns, and hasten to the next poem. I don't know why the administrators have the silly "levels" -- I have selected the option to keep them off my profile. They are meaningless and add nothing to the site. Overall, a good bargain. You can join and post as much as you like for free as long as you are willing to keep generating comments on the works of others. And why not. Or you can pay to join at other levels in order to spice up your personal profile page, such as backgrounds and special fonts. Fortunately they have not had to resort to advertisements that wreck the look and feel of the site.
In my informed opinion, I believe that Allpoetry.com is a vanity poetry site designed to take advantage of the egos and wallets of amateur writers. I was a paying member who left the site due to my personal experience with rampant plagiarism and selective rule enforcement by the owner and his moderators. I was not banned as Kevin Watt's reply would imply. In fact, I only left the site after numerous complaints were ignored or mishandled.
I have numerous complaints regarding the site. I feel that the contests are rigged and many of the members have a cult mentality, especially those in the site's larger groups. I also feel that the site is a major source of misinformation regarding poetry and poetry forms, and the site's front page does not accurately reflect the best poetry that the site offers. The site's "classes" are also largely "taught" by members who have zero qualificaions to do so. The site also has its share of trolls, but at least they can be blocked.
As a published, award winning writer, my advice is to steer clear of allpoetry.com.
Tip for consumers:
If you are a talented writer and value ownership of your work, I advise you to stay far away from Allpoetry.com. If you want to learn how to write better, there are much better resources to be found online. If you want a fair and equitable site, it has been my experience that AP certainly does not qualify. Definitely do NOT waste your money on a paid membership
We've responded carefully to every complaint about plagiarism, which is very rare and taken very seriously. It's hard to match users to sitejabber users, but I believe this user was banned for other reasons and is lying in an attempt to hurt our reputation here.
He called me out for antisemitism in a poem about the USS Liberty. Do your research Kevin. You know nothing.
We don't do "shadowbanning" - if you get banned, you'd be locked out of the site with the reason why. The only action I see for you was the removal of the "N" word from one of your poems last year. Please contact us on the site if you have any questions or are seeing any errors, that's the correct place for this sort of thing.
The website is a social networking place for radicals that other social media sites would ban instantly. For a poetry site to have a place called "The Adult Pub" which consists of members who say racist things and promote antisemitism. I have been told numerous times by the site owner that it isn't a part of the website, yet there is a direct link. Instead of ownership removing a pointless aspect of a poetry website, he and his moderators simply allow radicalism to grow and spread their hatred.
I wouldn't spend a dime on this website until such things are removed. You are better off joining a Facebook poetry group or another website that doesn't foster white nationalists, nazis and other forms of bigotry and racism.
Sorry you had a bad experience. The "radicals" as you call them used to cause problems in the poetry areas of the site (the real site!) so, exiling them to the mean forum worked well. While that forum is not moderated, if there's something you feel needs removing, you can still contact our moderators and they'll take action if something is breaking our rules. We don't tolerate racism or anti-seminitism.
The longer I was there, the less enamored I was with the results. It is unique social media site, for sure, run mostly by AI. Don't go there to learn how to write better poetry because no one bothers to give critiques, even if you ask for them. They are busy making short admiring comments and giving likes, so you will do the same for their poems. Hence members who have made 40,000+ comments and written 20,000 "poems." You can "follow" your fave poets. A kind of mutual admiration society. They do offer a couple of writing classes, but I found those also did not offer much in the way of insight into the process of writing. Same old stuff. AllPoetry has "autorank" which gives a numeric value to each of your poems, if you care to look it up -- all per an AI algorhithm. And what poet wants an artificial valuement of his very human creative product. There is definitely egalitarianism, which means anyone can post almost anything in any form for public consumption. That doesn't mean it is poetic, which is a shame. It does mean the site is fairly worthless if you are a serious poet. There is so much junk it is like looking in a city landfill for that diamond ring you lost. If you want to write, write for yourself. Take a university course in poetry writing and/or poetry appreciation. If you want a different type of social media that is nevertheless just as superficial as all the other social media, this might be the place for you. And, after all, it is free unless you want to jazz up the background colors or the font. Isn't that what poetry is about?

You have to buddy up with people to get any comments on your work. You have to be "in the loop".
I have written on the site for over a year. Never getting more than 1-4 "likes". Mine is not bad. You are a poet or not. You do not "learn" to write. You can take classes to maybe fit into the box. Read me if you want. The site changes from All Poets to All Poetry depending what day it is. Debra Ann Van Ness
Allpoets - not sure where you got that from, never heard of it. Maybe you were involved on another site? Until you build up a set of folks "following" you, your poems will get some initial attention from the "new" list, but after that you'll need to do stuff like use the "trade comments" feature, enter contests, join small groups to get your poem in front of more folks. A lot of new poets are surprised there's not hoards of adoring fans waiting for them upon posting, but if you dive in and are active, you'll get a lot of responses.
Horrible site. Horrible staff. Disgusting excuses from moderators about racist behaviours. Excuses. More Excuses. Plagiarism is rife. Private conversations are not private. Corrupt site due to establishment being the main problem. DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE. Gaslighting. Horrible site. STAY AWAY unless you are a troll who likes to argue about politics and are a racist bigot. Disgusting site where you are demeaned for your political rights and views. Racist site. STay AWay
Sorry you had a bad experience :( It is a moderated site, so if you see something, please say something. I'm not 100% sure who this user is, but the "private messages are not private" leads me to believe they were banned for sending inappropriate messages to other users - once a user makes a complaint, will read messages between them and the person they are accusing to see if any violations of our terms of service were made. Plagarism is very rare and taken very seriously, so I suspect this was just added in because they wanted to leave a negative review.
I am getting lots of feedback as a new user. If your poetry is good, you will get noticed. However make an effort to contribute too as more people will read your poetry and make friends. Thousands of poems get posted each week so make yours stand out.

They allow third parties to read your private conversations then let them make claims of misconduct against you and remove your work without asking you to on your own. Taking your work deleting it from you when they have no rights to do so.
And to answer mr watts reply
The poem he had no right to delete from me had a parity title to the person whom the site supervisor allowed hear say and finger pointing to violate my privacy of a private conversation between 2 individuals not the 3rd party who was pointing fingers with hear say. Which wasn't about her, but was about the site and how they rape your privacy rights and label you without evidence or an example.
I never even talked to the said poet he claims I was harassing and he did delete my work without permission (which he still hasn't got which he doesn't never get because he who is slow to the poetic metaphors of life).
My beef is not with the poet he claims I was mad at and was allowed to point a finger, but with the mccarthyism bad behavior of him and his site supervisor.
This user posted a harassing poem with the name of and about another user without their permission, which is against our rules. Sorry you had a bad experience with a user, but writing a poem with their name is not allowed :( We take censorship very seriously and only take action when it is required, like in situations like this.
Great place to share original works with other and to also get feedback and comments from them. I recommend membership to anyone who maybe wants to test the waters before possibly perusing the world of publishing.
Fairly new to the site, but I will say it has a very toxic community. Saw a piece I like where a person started harassing and trolling this user, failing to give a decent comment. Multiple people called this person out, including myself. I also reported it. The message I got was, and I quote,"Bullying a bully is bad too". This site would rather protect a bully instead of applying the decent thing to do, like banning the person or something. If you want to be freely harassed then this is the site for you.
Sorry you had a bad experience in this case :( We don't allow harassment on the site - and that includes people jumping to defend someone who doesn't want defending. The commentor in this case DID get in trouble as well, but your responses were definitely bullying as well, so it ended up complicated :(
Well, I started out using this site back in 2013 and, well, there's a reason WHY I don't visit the site as much. The only reason this review comes with 2 star rating is because of nostalgia.
IDK who need to hear this but it would be much appreciated if they stop trying to force users to interact with one another. People come on the website to post their poems and, possibly, get some interaction, however, forcing it is NOT a way to go. Worse still is that they force you interact to be able to post more poems. And that's not getting into how much a premium membership is ($180 per year).
Also, I don't appreciate getting emailed naggy "reminders" to use the site. There's a reason why I'm scarce on this site.
Really, there are far better websites for one to post poetry.
Tip for consumers:
If you want to post poetry, my suggestion is that you make a blog or try Fictionpress, Booksie, maybe, but, really, don't give this site a try. It isn't worth it.
Poetry published by over 400,000 amateur and expert poets in the world's largest poetry website. Browse, publish, and get critical feedback to improve your poems.
This user was banned from our site for harassing other members, which explains their upset review :( Just to respond to the other mentions - Poems - we try to avoid censoring poems, it sometimes takes us a day or two to review and discuss to be sure something is bad enough that it needs to come down. Entering your poems into contests has nothing to do with generating money, not sure how that would work anyways. Getting your poems out there is definitely something you have to put some effort into as there are a lot of poems on the site, entering contests is just one way among many to get your poems in front of more people. One negative word and immediately kicked off - we do give warnings and have a ban "ladder" where they get longer after each time you break the rules.
