“Doctor is Finally in the list of contacts when using their message system.”

Gerry D.
4/6/23

The office is still a real pain to deal with about things like medications. However, the doctor is finally in the list of people to contact. This has helped a bit to deal with the office. They still need to do some type of overview with the office staff. Hiring a manager to do this is not working as well as they would like to think. I still would not recommend them to anyone I know.

Banner is an unethical, borderline criminal enterprise that was fined approximately $21 million dollars by the Federal Government for fraudulent Medicare billing in 2018. In fact, they are still on probation (this can be confirmed by looking it up online). They are an unscrupulous, predatory group of practitioners that see patients as cash cows to squeeze. This is effected by failing to disclose their charges, rushing and browbeating patients into undergoing needless surgeries and saving costs by withholding aftercare. Banner is emblematic of everything that is wrong in the American healthcare model: A for=profit system that does not serve patient concerns, but rather the corporations' pecuniary interests.

Tip for consumers:
Attempt to pin the administration about costs before undergoing any service.

Banner sent me a text that they were moving my appointment that was set up 3 months ago. The soonest they can get me in is 6 months from now! You can NEVER contact your Dr. office directly, everything goes through a multi step phone system leaving you hoping someone will call you back.

Tip for consumers:
Stay away from Banner Health!

I am very sorry to say I have to leave this review, but I am at my wits end as to what else to do! Banner's billing department is the worst! I've never been treated so poorly, lied to and given the run around as many times as they have. I am a cash paying customer for two surgeries for my son's broken leg and after over a year I still can not get them to give me the cash pay discount. All proper paperwork was filed, checked BEFORE we walked into surgery (yes, the guy at surgery check in desk even printed it out again for me and said make sure this is right and keep it for your records! I call every 30 days and still nothing has happen. I am now leaving poor reviews really in hopes that someone with some authority will call me. I've offered to set up a meeting, they say we don't meet with clients. I'm offered to come to the hospital, I've been in tears on 3 phone calls lasting OVER AN HOUR. Don't try to be a cash pay customer at Banner, it will take you years to even be billed correctly! Very sad, for a surgery to save my son's leg!

December 8th I went into the Banner Clinic on Southern and Crismon at 10:10 AM. There were several people already there, so I knew I was in for a wait. By 11:00 AM I was the only one left in the waiting room, then two more women came and a young man came in. When one of the women went in before me I went up to ask about my turn to see the PA. I was informed that she had not checked me in yet and that she would do that right away. I had filled out my forms and given her my ID and Medicare cards at 10:10 when I first came in. As I went back to my seat I looked back at the girls at the desk and they were having a little chuckle. The other two people in the waiting room that came in after me went in the see the PA. And then it was my turn, I was given my ID and Medicare cards and I was lead into the office. After having my blood pressure and weight were taken, I was led into an examination room to meet the PA. On the way I asked for a business card for the clinic manager and I was informed that they do not have any. I was brought a form to fill out and they would give it to the manager. It was a blank piece of paper with lines. I did not fill that out because I figured that was part of the prank and it would go right in the garbage. A lady came in and asked about my symptoms and asked why I was upset about the 20 minute wait, I explained to her that it was nearly two hour wait and that several people had been seen that came in after me. She said the PA would be in shortly. She came in and asked why I was upset and she was concerned about my high blood pressure, I told her the story and she wrote me a prescription. She also said they were going to check my blood pressure again, I told her it was not going to go down that fast after the big prank I was played. I am a 71 year old man from Minnesota and I was picked to be the butt of their joke that morning. Last year I went into the Banner emergency room for vertigo and was treated was respect and treated very quickly, that is why I went back to the Banner Clinic.

So many billing problems over the past months with Banner Health. My most recent issue, is that Banner Imaging owes me approximately $311. I paid for services and so did my insurance. Even after filing a complaint against Banner Health with the BBB and Banner Health agreeing that I was owed a refund, Banner Health still has not processed this refund. I wish that I could turn Banner Health over to collections!

Know your rights, especially with delayed COVID bills.
I delivered my twins at Banner Estrella in 2020. The stay, care and delivery were amazing. Much better than my experience with Arrowhead with my first. I had to complete a COVID test, as part of their protocols at the time. I went in to the designated well testing site, scheduled by the L&D scheduler, which was at Banner Urgent Care in Sun City West. TWO YEARS later, I received a bill for the "office visit" (which didn't even take place), for a service that should be covered under the Emergency Care Act. I have spoken with my insurance, who informed me that the claim was not submitted as a COVID service. I contacted Banner's billing service, who claimed they were submitting it for review in August. Well, now I receive a notice from their collections agency that my bill, that shouldn't even exist, has gone unpaid. I call Banner's billing service again, to find out the first review was never actually submitted. She informs me they will send notice to the collections agency that the account is on hold. I wait 48 hours, call the collections agency, only to be told that they did not receive any notification of the account being on hold. I have now submitted a dispute with Banner's billing service, my insurance and the collections agency, which has been very time consuming. Needless to say, I am beyond frustrated at this point.

I went to Banner Urgent Care a year ago. I have outstate insurance.
I gave the receptionist all my insurance information.
A year later I got a bill telling me my insurance had denied the visit.
I called my insurance and they told me Banner never billed them.
Several phone calls later on a 3 way with their billing department and my insurance, an Banner still billing me.
My insurance has escalated the claim and had contacted Banner several times to get this resolved.
How can they be so incompetent?

Based on my experience. I had a medical situation back in January, which I had to be put on leave for. Had dizziness and swaying problems. I've had one MRA, one MRI, and a CT scan. Seen four doctors that didn't seem to care at all about what I was/am experiencing. No has gotten back to me on the last MRI. My primary care provider was to call a nephrologist, but have not heard from nobody! But I seen the insurance claims that the doctors have billed the insurance company for a lot of money. Wow, I guess as long as they collect their money who cares about how the patient is doing. Again this is base on my own experience. From talking to other people who went to banner health, they don't have nice words for banner health either. Never again!

Banner Has Got To Be The Worst Heath Provider In The Country‼ The ONLY Reason I Went Is Because SADLY My Two Fantastic Doctors Got Conned Into Working There. Luckily One Of My Doctors Has Left And They Refuse To Tell Me Where He Went. I Have Asked My Other Doctor But They Promoted Him To Head Of The Department. S**t! I Would Tell You Of ALL The Screwed Up Ways They Treat Patients But There's NOT ENOUGH ROOM To Write Everything Down Here‼ Do Walk Away But Run Away From Banner… You Will Find Out Sooner Or Later Why I Said What I Said… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First I received several calls to schedule a consult that I already scheduled. In the consult, I was not even examined. She asked the same questions my referring doctor asked. Never even looked at me. I had to pay prior to my visit which I have proof of and now they have texted me and sent a bill. After being on hold for 15 minutes they told me I was wrong and that they would review it and I should call back. Seriously I am at work. You made the mistake you call me. Now that I have had the consult the process began again to schedule the procedure. 5 calls from some assist company that takes your info but does not actually schedule the appointment. Someone from the actual office calls to schedule later. The funny thing is they give you a date, but not a time. So both I nor the driver can plan ahead I just don't eat or drink. What a way to do business. But again I had to pay prior to the procedure. How will you screw that up Banner? I will never go back after this. UC Health is much more personable.

Follow-up as of 02/03/22. Still can't communicate with Doctor Tony Lee (Not in system)
February 3rd, 2022
• Previous review

So, I checked to see if Dr. Lee was in the system so I could send a list of my doctors from IL. Needless to say he is still not in the system. So, while I was on the portal I decided to review my medications again since I had to call in and rectify multiple errors the office made with respect to my medications. Well, they still had 3 errors with my medications, even after reviewing the corrections I made back a few days ago. So, I called the office again and told them that there were still errors with my medications. The person I spoke with noted the corrections. Hopefully the person that actually puts the information in the system will get it right this time. Then I told the person on the phone that I still can't send my list of doctors from IL. The person helping me said she would talk to the office manager and see If I could email this info to her. Well she got back on the line and said she could not get hold of her. She did say she would follow up with her and see if I could mail the info to her. She said that they would get back to me.

New Primary Physician with Banner Health Located at 13640 N Plaza Del Rio Blvd Peoria, AZ 85381
February 1st, 2022
• Previous review

We just moved from IL to AZ. I had to find a new primary doctor. So, I started to search and found what I thought would be a good practice/doctor. The doctor I picked was Doctor Tony Lee, at ******* N Plaza Del Rio Blvd Suite 220 Peoria, AZ *******, When I saw the doctor things went well. So, I figured that I was done looking for a new primary doctor. However, the doctor is only as good as the practice and administrative staff. As we all know, most issues with doctor's ends up being with the administrative staff. Well I guess Banner is no different. When I went to the practice for my first visit I asked how communication was handled between the practice, doctors and patients. I was told they have a portal where all communications take place. Since I am on a lot of medications I asked if I could just attach a document I had showing my scripts and dosage on a daily basis. I also said that I would attach another document with information on all lf my doctors back in IL. They said that I would be able to do this once they sent me an invite to register on the portal. They said this would happen within one day of my visit. So, the next day I went to register on the portal. This process was easy. However, the portal is not that intuitive. I had to hunt around to create and send a message to the doctor. I started to create a message to the doctor. Unfortunately, the only way you can send anything or communicate with your doctor is if they are registered in the system. You would think that all doctors with this practice would be registered on the system before interacting with any patients. Well you would be wrong. Doctor Tony Lee has been with this practice for two months now and has yet to register on the portal. This means anyone seeing this doctor can't communicate with him on the portal. So, I called to ask about this and I was told to talk to the Portal Team. I called them the next day and they said that they could not sign up the doctor on the portal because of HIPPA issues. The Doctor had to ask for an invite on the system. So, I called the office back and told them this. They said they would make sure the doctor did this. Things get a bit worse with respect to my medication. When I was there for my first visit I had a sheet with most of my primary medications on it. It had the drug name, dosage and how many I take on a daily basis. I gave this to the doctor when I was there. He said he would have this entered into the system. When I was on the portal I decided to look at my list of medications on the portal. Well, you guessed it, they entered quite a few of them wrong. So, called in again to tell them this and straighten it out. The person I spoke with fixed my medication list. Oh and by the way they still do not have my info on my doctors back in IL. So, now it has been two weeks since I saw the doctor and he is still not registered on the portal. What kind of backwards place is this? Then I finally spoke to the office manager on 01/31/22 She wanted to speak to me because of the bad review I gave them. So, I told her everything I had been going through with their office. She mentioned she was only there for a month. She said she would rectify the issue with the doctor and try and have it done by the end of the week. I thought to myself, seriously. This should have been fixed the first day I called them to tell them about the issue. Anyhow it is now 02/01/22 and the doctor is still not on the portal. So, what happens if I slip into a coma and end up in the hospital and they call these guys to let them know? They will not have any of my medical history. Unbelievable! My recommendation would be to not have anything to do with this office unless you check to see that the doctor you are seeing is registered on the portal. I still wonder about this practice since they believe it is ok for a doctor to see patients without being able to communicate with them on their portal. What else do they handle poorly?

August 18,2023 I was taken by ambulance to Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona for what would become an 11 or 12 day surgery and recovery from gallbladder surgery. While there I noticed many Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) and very few nurses. My surgeon's report on my patient portal indicated he dropped my gallbladder and it burst during surgery and it required him to retrieve all the gallstones and flush out my body cavity with water. Post op, I was whisked away many times for testing with no idea what was going on. CNAs couldn't agree on my IV fluids; some took me off them, while others put me back on them. I was not allowed to shower during my stay except for one CNA who allowed it; probably without permission. After showing that I could walk two laps around the ward, they finally let me go home on the last day at 5 pm. Other gallbladder patients had gone home after two or three days; I was kept 11 or 12. Before I left, a nurse who had befriended me whispered, "Don't come back here again." It was a warning and I recognized it as such. I thanked her and hugged her goodbye.

March 14th, 2023

I had a procedure done in September 2022 at a Banner location. My first visit was the consultation and I was expected to pay my $70 doctor copay at that time...which I did pay. My second appt was the procedure and third was the post-op. I was billed for both of those visits for $70 copay each. ***Let me say that the physician and the staff we dealt with for the 3 appointments were all excellent!***
As for billing, I mistakenly made a 4th payment for $70 which was applied to the hospital and NOT the physician. Somewhere in all the billing and credits they sent me to collections for $70! I am still perplexed as to their poor quality of billing and all the confusion.
Since receiving the collection letter only yesterday I called Banner for an explanation. I was told they could not reverse the collection action...What happened to the $70 payment I made that was applied incorrectly?
Banner is a huge organization and I am surprised by the inept billing end of the business.
I did pay collections that same day so the $70 will be applied to my account hopefully in a timely manner.
Disappointed.

I have never had such horrible service from a nursing staff. They don't remember to keep their hospital contact phone on them (self admitted) or order late lunch after his diet change ordered by his doctor (after we requested…NEVER got it…we had to go to cafeteria to get him something)….supper wasn't served until after 7:30, only AFTER patient had to ask. Nurse station very inappropriate….conversations about a lost patient, loud personal conversations and other incidents.
No bath for patient. He smelled terrible. Had to ask for fresh water to even take meds.

Docs and radiology techs have been GREAT. Nursing staff needs to practice their patient care and compassion!

Banner Health needs to evaluate the nursing care here (with the exception of his day charge nurse, Nicole….she's great). Specifically AJ (floor nurse?) and Daniella (CNA). Patient needs and care DEFINITELY not their priority!

I will try to make a long story short.

My mother has been in declining health for eight years now and over those eight years, I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly from this hospital. All of this was BEFORE COVID so there is no excuse. Do not believe for a second that the severe medical negligence going on at Banner Thunderbird is because of staff shortages and budget cuts - I know no one at Banner (especially the administration and the CEO) is starving, the proof is right there in all the bills they "forget" to send through insurance and instead charge off to collection agencies before the legal time allotted to dispute and file a claim with insurance, not to mention all those predatory payment plans they force on their patients in their most vulnerable time (my mom was highly medicated, couldn't speak, and they still tried to sign her up for a credit line a day after having a massive stroke.)

The nurses are rude with way too much attitude for a job that requires empathy and selflessness and there are far too little exceptions to this rule. You'll sit there ringing a call button and you just listen to the melody of the innumerable call lights ringing while ICU NURSES laugh and joke obnoxiously at their station (I might add that if you're too busy to help someone to the bathroom who cannot walk - you don't have the time to play candy crush on your phone and giggle outside a sick person's room!)

The doctor's are JOKES, my mother had a wound on her stomach and when he asked to see it, she accidentally pulled her gown a little too high, he yelled at her "COVER YOURSELF, WOMAN!" I wish I was making this up. The other doctors? Oh, they come in before visiting hours, I suspect on purpose. They won't return phone calls, and you'll be lucky as a patient if you see them for more than 30 seconds. Not one of them communicate with one another - so they all end up contradicting each other and getting angry with patients and nurses because they gave an order that wasn't followed because it didn't apply because a different doctor gave a different order, and they just didn't bother checking with anyone. I don't think I need to tell you the specific ramifications on what happens when medical teams don't coordinate but it can be DEADLY. In fact, 1 out 850 patients in the U.S. who die are due to simple medication errors, so sit on that one for awhile, Banner.

The food is terrible and has made my mom sick on occasion with food poisoning. She's contracted C.Diff twelve different times from the DISGUSTING state of that hospital. I mean feces and blood on walls and floors, dirty bedding and equipment, bugs of all shapes and sizes, I could go on about how filthy and horrible the environment is there. It is safe to say it is not conducive to healing, and I'd argue you'd be better off at home with a family member than go here.

Please don't take your loved ones here, it has been heartbreaking to watch how they've treated my mom, and I would just like to ask everyone who works there - would you want your parents treated like dirt? Would you want your child to sit in a hallway of an ER for eight hours while incompetent admins try to find a room? Would you like it if a nurse, doctor, CNA, social worker, or anyone working in a hospital screamed at your grandparents? I didn't think so.

And it's not just me - look at ALL the reviews and tell me there isn't systemic issues with this hospital that continues to this day despite complaints, and I'll tell you why! Because all those automated responses they think will placate you. Well, I have emailed and I have called and I have received nothing but further rudeness and apathy for what my family has gone through. They do not care. None of the people who the own the hospital care. The CEO doesn't care. No one cares.

Go to honor health, go to arrowhead, avoid this place like the plague (because if you go there, you might just contract it.)

While my wife was in this "hospital", November 4,2018 for a total of 56 hours a woman came around gathering insurance information. Besides giving the Primary and Supplemental Insurance company names my wife was asked "What kind of house do you live in... Conventional, manufactured home, mobile home, trailer and how many steps to your front door?" What has anything besides the names of the insurance companies have to do with an individual's medical insurance unless the billing department of Banner co-ordinates their billing practices by a patient's residential 'means'! How about a Zip Code? Would that help them pricing a hospital stay? Patients beware!

Your insurance company should also be aware that Banner charges a "Facility Fee" which comes to roughly 14% of the bill. After many emails and phone calls to their billing department *******806) someone finally admitted that the "Facility Fee" is for walking in the door of any Banner Facility. That's like going to a movie and besides being charged for admission there is a "Facility Fee" for sitting in the seat! My wife was in this "Facility" for a total of 56 hours and the insurance company was billed $13,386.20 for a Hiatal Hernia. Twenty cents... really? This country has the most expensive healthcare in the world for some of the worst treatments. And this is one of the reasons. Banner should be BANNED!

I just moved to the Arizona area. There are one of the few medical facilities that take a lot of new patients. The reason is the service is not good. I was warned by a former nurse and co-workers that worked to avoid them. I tried them because I need a yearly physical to continue treatment and could not wait to month for the other doctors. This was a serious mistake and a waste of 300$ and now must be late on treatments. Little rude and dought much of what information given to them. I will have to move on.
