“Good Experiences Selling & Buying”

Lauren R.
5/17/23

For certain items it's the best marketplace I've found. I sold a Heywood Wakefield piece on there after it not selling on other sites. And I was so happy when all I had to do was open the door for two delivery persons who carefully and quickly carried it out of my apartment after I made the sale. I've also found some original art pieces that have made me very happy and have had quick delivery and great communication with the sellers.

“Adding a service fee to make a purchase on Chairish is outrageous!”

Who charges their customers an additional service fee of $14.00 to purchase merchandise from their platform? WTH. A $14 service fee is added to each purchase to support their platform. How is that my responsibility? The fee should be absorbed by Chairish or seller. Such a rip off!

I am a regular consumer/seller online. I use Mercari, Poshmark, and ebay. I went out on a limb to give Chairish a try as a buyer... it has been the worst experience! Chairish doesn't make their sellers ship in any required amount of time (my purchase shipped over a week later) and the claims process to get a refund is a nightmare! Their customer service is outsourced internationally and is so slow. I will never buy on Chairish again.

Their site only publishes positive feedbacks. Customer service non-existent and qualitatively from third world. I had to open a dispute on Paypal to get my money back which I will automatically receive after 40 days.
Their customer service designed specifically to simply induce a nervous breakdown. They are not liable for damages caused by their sellers. If you want your nightmare, this is the right place to shop!.

I purchased a marble lamp from Chairish.com. The lamp was advertised as in "good, original condition" but arrived broken and re glued. After sending 17 photos illustrating the damage, Chairish steadfastly insisted the item was perfect. I had to take up my complaint with VISA's fraud department. AVOID THIS DISREPUTABLE SELLER.

Tip for consumers:

I have been communicating with Chris for 6 weeks regarding my damaged sideboard. Seller listed as 'no imperfections'. When item arrived it was barely wrapped and had 'gouging' damage to the center top of the piece and scratched off finish to the left of the damage in the picture. Every week I receive another request for information or pictures. Sometimes they make an 'offer' for settlement. I've had it.

Rude, unprofessional, uneducated " customer service*. In my experience they have allowed fraud as both a buyer and seller and change their policies ar whimthey think they are entitled to make financial decisions despite not being owners or consignors just brokers. Yet in Ponzi scheme like modus they keep your money even after you ship merchandise. Literally sometimes for months So at any given time they have millions of their customers dollars and millions of customer merchandise and could just close down...

I made a reasonable offer and the seller accepted and was very transparent. I received notifications during every step of the process to include the 3rd party shipper. I received my marble coffee table in two weeks and the communication was clear and excellent. The shipping/logistics costs can be a bit steep but I understand that I get what I pay for when it comes to shipping and they did a stand up job. I will definitely order from Chairish in the future.

Tip for consumers:
Always contact the seller and get their information on the shippers they use as well as lead time and remember that EVERYTHING is negotiable.

Found some amazingly cool lamps, paid about 3X too much for them, but wanted them anyhow! Buyer beware! Seller asked me to wait a few weeks till he returned from vacation to send items, of course I said no problem. Lamps arrived later while I was out of town. Plugged them in when I got home - one lamp went off/on by itself inadvertently and one's chain was broken. Clearly, the seller knew the items were broken. The lamp shade was messed up also, but that was probably a result of poor packing. Worked with CS and they tried to push it off because it was 48 hours past when the last package arrived. I sent the photos like they wanted and everything immediately. They kept sending me the same email over and over again - like they pretended I hadn't sent them the email with photos and information. In hindsight, I'm sure this is their way to not honor their word (being honest in the description). What a terrible company. I paid so much I really thought the service would be amazing if I needed it. BUYER BEWARE!

I ordered a large, antique rolltop desk for my daughter. The Chairish site states that the furniture is delivered to your home and placed in whatever room you want. Our antique desk arrived in pieces, with one delivery driver to get it to an upstairs bedroom. I had to help carry the top, and later ended up in the ER with a possible blood clot from a leg injury. If that wasn't bad enough, the driver said that he was not allowed to reassemble the desk, and the rolltop was locked with no key to open it. Two weeks later, we have still been unable to get a key through Chairish's customer service. We believe the seller must have had a key because the rolltop was open in the pictures on the website and locked when it arrived. Not having a key would not be a big deal if the top wasn't locked with parts to the desk inside of it. We do not want to damage the desk trying to force the lock. Chairish is a terrible service that probably results in more damage to antiques than anything. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

Tip for consumers:
That the "white glove" delivery service is false advertising.

Chairish is an auction house that allows a seller to set a reserve but allows the buyer to harass you for $5 bid increments that need to be attended to or the bid process shuts down. "hello? Chairish? Do you want my business of 20%? The Chairish items that are accepted can be capricious too, what? You don't take Vitra Museum miniatures of iconic designer chairs? Really? The shippers are hit and miss. I can do better hiring through Uship than they do, besides they make me liable for all the problems anyway.

Tip for consumers:
I am on the seller side. Chairish makes the process a hassle. They have the marketing punch which is good but the whole update and sell process sends negative flags about their culture. Here is an outrageous delusional moment, if you sell your item somewhere else - they want to be paid 20% anyway. Really Chairish thinks we don't and shouldn't have the agency to sell elsewhere?

I recently purchased my first item from Chairish. As a vintage seller myself, I normally buy from local businesses but fell in love with something on Chairish and figured I was still supporting a small business through the purchase. The item listed was a lucite chair in "great vintage condition" with "some imperfections" but "unaltered." (First picture) What I received was far from that with a full break in the lucite that was shoddily glued back together and a seat that had food caked in it (second picture).

I thought purchasing through Chairish would give me protection as a buyer, knowing that a refund would cost them nothing in the grand scheme of things. Instead I got a series of more and more insulting emails from their customer service team. I tried calling multiple times but everyone said they were the wrong person to talk to about this.

The last email was extremely condescending, trying to imply that I didn't know what vintage meant, that Chairish specializes in "shabby chic" and I should be aware of condition for an item from the 1970s. I have sold multiple items through Chairish as well as on my own website. I understand "normal vintage wear" vs "poor/altered condition" and the responsibility as a seller to disclose condition. I was fortunately able to get refunded through my credit card company, but am still shocked at the "service" I received from such a large, reputable company. I will never do business with the site again.

They sold my $1,300 DWR designer sofa bed for $100 by mistake. When I tried to stop the sale and return the item the manager never returned my call despite being told they are aware of the problem and will contact shortly. Week later they deliver the sofa to the buyer against my wishes and send me a cheque for $70. I had paid $6,000 for the sofa.
These people are unprofessional and unethical.

I sold an item on their site thinking they were high end sellers, big mistake. The delivery vender made me waste my day waiting for him, 5 1/2 hours. He kept pushing back the pick up time and would only speak to me after calling and emailing Chairish. They did not respond to me until the following day but only by email to say they will send the same shipper. I have been asking to speak to a manager, after two weeks I received a voicemail. I call about 5 minutes later and was told the person was gone for the day. I don't trust them and told them they should just cancel the sale.

I received my first purchase today. It is a triple chinoiserie dresser. I paid $650 for an exquisite piece of furniture. It arrived spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. The driver, Rod was very nice. I have 4 other pieces coming and I can hardly wait. I could never have found this without Chairish. I plan on selling some pieces, too. Chairish, you make furniture shopping amazing. While others are waiting 3 or months or more for pressed wood from inexpensive furniture stores, I am looking at my beautiful dresser that came in 2 weeks. I would love to keep you as my own secret furniture place, but that would be selfish. I hope everyone keeps up this kind of quality recycling.

I purchased a wall mirror from one of their sellers for just under $1000. And it was never delivered because the seller gave a false tracking number (that corresponded to an unrelated item and delivery address). I will spare you the boring details but Chairish basically did nothing to help me. No offer for a refund. Stopped answering my emails. It's impossible to get anyone by phone. This is FRAUD.
It's a shame. Please be aware which sellers you purchase from on their platform as basically you are on your own- paying a broker (Chairish) that does nothing for you.

I purchased a light for my island on Chairish. Received it on a Tuesday, broken. I immediately took pictures and contacted customer service. I received an email back later that day detailing what photos they need. Didn't hear back after sending many photos. By Saturday I emailed back asking for an update and how I can finish settling the matter. Heard back that evening that they need more time to "research" the situation. Here it is over a week later and no word from them. When you call you WILL NOT get through. They make it seem like they have SO MANY calls and they will get back to you, but that remains to be seen. I'd think long and hard about ordering from Chairish. Is it really worth the headache when your expensive item arrives broken and you want a refund? It has seriously been a colossal waste of my time. AND it's still sitting on the floor in my kitchen where I went to unwrap it and realized it was broken. $#*!s.

Tip for consumers:
I don't think it is worth the trouble you may experience if your item arrives damaged. This has been a huge waste of my time and I still have no refund and no functioning light to hang. So I'd think long and hard about purchasing from Chairish.

Chairish is just another self-serving, greedy, big corporation -- taking advantage of struggling small businesses while gouging profits and marketing themselves as a caring, virtuous company. Their shipping policies alone should squelch that myth. You could arrange your own shipping for a fraction of what they're charging. Some of their sellers might not be professional or service minded. But you can find the good sellers because they are selling on other platforms: 1st Dibs, Ruby Lane, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, ebay, etc. -- and on their own websites. You can find customer reviews so that you know they're legit and respected by their buyers. Do your homework. When you see something you like on Chairish, then find your seller elsewhere on the internet. Buy direct from the seller and save yourself some heartache (and dollars). There's no reason to support the corporate greed of modern robber barons in a lavish, high-rent district of downtown San Francisco when they're overcharging on shipping and treating their small business "partners" like... dirt.

Tip for consumers:
Find the name of the seller for the items you want. Then do your research and find other platforms where that seller is selling: ebay, Ruby Lane, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, 1st Dibs -- buy directly from the seller.

Purchased a rug from Babylon Rugs on Chairish that came with a large stain on it. Chairish has no buyer protections. I buy a lot of things on other platforms and have never had any issues in these instances where the seller gave an inaccurate description until I got to Chairish. The customer service trying to get them to do anything about it (unsuccessfully) has also been terrible. Avoid this site, use any of the other platforms with better buyer protections or know you may be throwing your money away.

When the dust settles and the pandemic is over we will look back at the companies that helped their fellow American. Chairish will not be on that list.

A day after San Francisco was ordered to shelter in place Chairish sent an email to its sellers describing how they had their back. "Just change the shipping dates on your items," they said. What they didn't mention, knowing full well the financial peril most of these small businesses were facing, was that they would continue to take their 20% commission on every sale. Fine. You're opportunistic but you can't admit it. Nothing new here.

Then that same day they posted on Instagram to their customers. "Small business needs you. Chairish supports 10,000+ small businesses..." Supports? So know you're positioning yourself as a supportive company to encourage sales. No, just no. You don't get to have it both ways. Support means support. And in this case it's clear what that should be, to help ease the financial burden for the many small businesses you work with. I posted a comment to their Instagram (see pics attached) calling them out and it was deleted within minutes with no DM follow up, nothing. Speaks volumes.

So what can you do as a consumer? Find your item on Chairish by all means, but do the extra research and find the actual small business' website to make the purchase. At least you know you will actually be supporting a small business not a greedy shameless company.

As a trade member I found their customer service to be abysmal. I was told that an order was canceled because it was no longer available 3 weeks after purchasing and only after repeated attempts to find out why it had not shipped as promised. I believe either the seller was dishonest or Charish is inept at processing and tracking transactions. Either way, Charish does not meet my professional standards and I would certainly not recommend them.

Ordered an armoire we loved on January 13 and received an email labeled "shipping update" that night. The email stated "deliveries typically happen very quickly following pickup (5-10 days)." Another email had stated "In-home Delivery items will typically take 3-6 weeks." We finally received it March 30. Maybe not a typical result, but keep your eyes wide open and be ready to wait twice as long as they say.

Chairish has many antique, vintage, one of a kind, and difficult to find items. There really are some great finds on this site, and the prices are fair. Unfortunately, their over-priced 'white glove shipping' makes it difficult to afford the furniture piece you love. You can make a lower offer on your purchase, but all offers are final. The big problem with this is that you don't find out exactly how much the shipping will be when/if the offer is accepted, and they charge your credit card immediately if it is. Considering that shipping costs can be as much as $1,000, this could lead to some heart-stopping shipper shock.
