“I first subscribed to Conscious Box back in July 2014”

Anna J.
1/6/15

I first subscribed to Conscious Box back in July 2014. At first, I was startled by a chocolate bar that arrived in the middle of the summer in an eco-friendly plastic bag, MELTED! But right next to it was an insert about "What to do with your Melted Chocolate". Soooooo cute. I've now received 6 boxes, and though there are some repeat items, I LIKE THEM ALL. For Christmas, they sold one-time gift boxes with local items from Portland (which is where they are based?). I bought one for my sister and was pleasantly impressed. I'd def recommend it if you're looking for unusual brands that you can't find at Safeway. :)

“Horrible customer service”

I made the mistake of doing business with a company that does not want to talk to their customers. Auto renewal is just a scam to keep you paying. I sent an email to cancel my UNREQUESTED auto renewal and got a box anyway. I just sent it back marked REFUSED RETURN TO SENDER. If I am charged I will report to attorney general. Also will dispute with credit card company. This appears to be a very unethical business.

Terrible scam! DO NOT ORDER THIS! Please trust me! It is a box of free samples. Somehow this company keeps charging your account even after writing emails and cancelling your subscription! I have never written a bad review about anything ever before this. Zero stars!

We never recieved our product on time and had to email them more than once to get a missed shipment resolved. They did refund but it has never been consistant. I went online to cancel and they disabled the customers ability to manage thier accounts. I had to email to do so. I stopped payment through my credit card company, because it takes days to hear back.
The box was just ok.

SCAM, SCAM, SCAM - stay clear! My son gave me a 3 month subscription. When I activated it they asked for my credit card so I emailed the company and they assured me that they would not charge my card unless I choose to continue after they asked me if I wanted to. Well, they didn't ask and they did charge. They do not return emails and the phone numbers provided do not belong to them. STAY CLEAR!

I clicked one star because they don't have an option for Zero! Same complaints as the others... I purchased a 3 month subscription through Amazon Local. The products they send are junk in my opinion... a few tea bags, strange powdered supplements, a recycled newspaper pencil, etc! Some of the products actually are labeled, "free sample - not for resale," so they look like samples that this company acquired and are now selling! I've tried to log in to my "account" to cancel the "subscription" that they automatically renew to no avail. They have not replied to my requests to "reset" my password to get into my account. I haven't been able to find a working phone number just like the others. I sent an e-mail to them demanding to have them stop the "subscription" and putting them on notice that my credit card will reject any attempt to charge to my account. Whew, quite a rant, but very frustrating when dealing with this type of company. My advice is, don't be fooled!

What a disappointment. I tried out the site as I found a Groupon for it, but even at half savings, it was not worth it. I received a very small box containing sample products (that are labelled 'not for resale'). The box contained a list of what SHOULD have been included inside the box, but even two of the samples were missing. Oh... and there were a few coupons as well. All in all, nothing I couldn't get by visiting an expo, or health food store.

I subscribed using a Living Social voucher, which gave a substantial discount. When my credit card statement arrived I found they had charged me - which they should have not have done - and at the full rate. I have reported them to my credit card company for fraud, and will not, under any circumstances, pay this charge.

Verified purchase

I had some trouble getting my moms box to her at first but then Conscious Box worked with me to fix it. I accidentally put the wrong apartment number when signing up. I thought it was never sent but it was actually at her apartment office! They fixed the address for me and the next box arrived within their shipping time frame listed on the site. Although it took a little longer than expected to get a response to my email their customer service was super helpful and kind despite my rudeness. I'm really sorry for the initial negative remarks!

Not only is the customer service bad (and that's putting it kindly), but they are completely unable to handle an honest review on their public page. After posting an honest review of the nightmare customer service (or lack there of) and my extreme disappointment, my post was deleted within minutes. It's amazing how prompt Conscious Box is to clean up the complaints on their page yet they are unable to response to an e-mail within a week (actually, it may take longer. I've sent two e-mails over a week ago and have yet to hear anything back). No tracking information or box have been sent to me, despite having ordered it on the 9th of May. I wish I had done more research into this company before committing to a subscription. Any company that doesn't list a phone number should probably raise a huge flag. For more honest reviews, read the other posts on this page (they're all similar complaints) or go to the Better Business Bureau website and look up this company.

Saw this on Amazon Local. Conscious Box sounded like a nice company sending healthy products, so I ordered a $10.00 voucher. When I got to their website, it said "CREDIT CARD NUMBER REQUIRED." Well, no--I assumed I had already paid for my merchandise. This deal has "SCAM" written all over it. I contacted Amazon and they refunded my $10.00. Amazon is awesome. End of transaction. As a company, Conscious Box has no CONSCIENCE. They're stupid, too. They lost my goodwill and that of many other potential customers. I see this outfit folding their tent in a year or so.

They are a disgrace to the online companies! Horrible customer service, if any that is. Don't address you as a customer, no Real way to contact them. Don't even respond to a customer email that is not an automated email.

Although some of the samples that I received I actually enjoyed, I feel like it's a complete ripoff since they are truly the samples that I would get for free from the companies directly. I signed up for a discounted version through Living Social then I was automatically billed for another 3 MONTH subscription. I contacted them before any of the 3 boxes shipped and they took forever to respond only to tell me that it works like a magazine subscription and once it has been billed, I cannot be refunded. I'm going to dispute with my credit card company and see if I can at least be refunded for the 2 boxes (overpriced might I add) that I haven't received yet.

I decided to give this a try because I only had to pay shipping on the first box. I did not receive a single thing in the box that interested me so I decided to cancel. However, the box had been shipped to me later than it should have been and arrived after the cut-off date for canceling the next month, which meant that I have to pay for another month at full price. I can't help but believe that shipping the first box late was done on purpose. I feel this company is a complete scam and I would recommend you stay away.

The idea is a good one, expose people to new, eco-friendly, body-friendly products without making them do any work. However, the result is a glorified box of should-be-free samples that customers pay outrageous prices for. I bought a 3-month trial for 50% off through Livingsocial, and I still felt very ripped-off.

Even worse, while the company made it clear that they are auto-renewal unless manually cancelled (not uncommon for subscription services), they do not notify customers when the auto-renewal is coming up (apparently hoping customers will forget), and WORSE, they give no notification at all when a renewal occurs, even though there is a bank account charge!

I submitted a refund request after the auto-renewal because the new subscription hadn't shipped yet, and $56 is just stupid for 3 months of samples. It is not 10 days since that request was submitted, with no word at all. I just finished submitting a claim through the BBB. Do not do "business" with this company.

I redeemed a Living Social voucher for 1 box so there shouldn't be any charge. Before I even received the box, they charged me for the next month's subscription. Tried to call them, but their number wasn't connected. I emailed them and they didn't respond for a week. They refuse to budge. The contents of the box wasn't worth it. STAY AWAY

I sent an email to cancel my subscription, 3 weeks! Before the box was to be sent out. I notified my bank and yet they sent the box any way. What a scam. Reminds me of LA Fitness. Where you have to write a letter (that never makes it) to cancel. Poor business. They should be taken to court. Shame on you Conscious Box.

Worst customer service ever! I have had to deal with them for the past 3 months and it is outrageous how long they take to get back to you. They wrongfully charged me twice in a matter of two month and I am not even subscribed with them! DO NOT GET THIS BOX!

Those samples are not worth of the money you are charged! The box is disappointing - there is only one full size item per box such a small bag of chips or a medium size chocolate bar. The stuff from the box wouldn't cost more than a few dollars if you buy it from the grocery. I'm cancelling my subscription!

This company refuses to stop deliveries. I have sent 2 emails and they keep coming. I returned the last box without opening it and they refuse to reinburse me. I have never had a problem with a company like this before. Another reviewer said their phone was disconnected. What is the story here. I am so frustrated.

SCAM. BOUGHT ON GROUPON OR LIVING SOCIAL I CANT REMEMBER IT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO. NOT A BAD DEAL FOR THAT PRICE BUT YOU STILL ARE OVER PAYING. THEY AUTO RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WITHOUT ASKING. BORDERLINE CREDIT THIEFS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, SERIOUSLY NOT EVEN GOOD PRODUCTS. IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME READ THE REST, CONSENSUS IS THIS IS A SCAM. HOW CAN THEY STILL OPERATE LIKE THIS?! FKIN SCUM

Reading these reviews, I wish I had done so sooner. Like others mentioned, definitely do not sign up if you're vegan. My first box had two non-vegan items in it, it took forever to get a response, they sent me a new box with samples of things I'll probably never use, and they sent me an "extra" box to make up for the first one... well that box was the exact same as the first one. You think after all of these complaints they could get their stuff together. If I ever decide to do this type of thing again, I'll go back to VeganCuts. I was told today via email that I will be refunded for 11 boxes within the next few days so I'll be checking my bank account!

Overprice samples. Even if the box arrives in good condition products are not.
I have yet to receive chips, only ground or power chips.
Terrible costumer service. This company provides no service to the company they are "promoting" instead they created bad will towards them. I will not look for the products they send.

Very disappointed in this company. At least I didn't pay full price. I signed on for a "plus box" three-month deal with Living social. My April box had one full size item in it; a very nice lip balm, but all the rest were small sample sizes that might be handed out at the store. One package with liquid broke open and leaked onto other items in the box. My May box had four repeats of April (all sample sizes), and one item was actually missing (was listed on packing list, just wasn't there). When contacted, the customer service rep basically said, "variations occur" and added points to my account to make up for it rather than replacing the item. I don't want points, I want the items listed in the box! I really thought that was crappy of them. The one full size item this month was a box of Annie's Macaroni and Cheese, which sells for $1.69 at the grocery store. Even with the living social deal (about $9 a month) this is a total and absolute ripoff. Stay away from this company.

SCAM ALERT! I bought a box through living social and DID NOT RECEIVE IT. I was also charged AGAIN 5 days later for $19.99- I ended up finally receiving a TINY BOX of sample sizes of some crushed up crackers and cookies that it looked like the company had gotten for FREE and charged me 20 bucks for.
Any Customer Service inquiry was IGNORED and they do not provide a phone number. I went through the Better Business Bureau back and forth and all they said was "We sent you a box here's the tracking number, that's it... Great company hahaha. How hard is it to pay someone minimum wage just to answer your phone? Its obvious they're making bank just scamming people...
