“BEWARE! DO NOT hire this contractor!”

Jeff V.
9/3/19

Michael Coons, Owner of Coons' fences, appeared as a seasoned pro. He was courteous and ended conversations with "Have a blessed day." After meeting with Michael, I thought his estimate was high; however, I saw pics of his work and decided to hire Coons Fences. Note: Don't go off of the pics he posts on the website. Look at mine to see what the work really looks like. I decide to move forward. They got to the job within about 2 - 3 weeks. The job was supposed to take two days, possibly a third half day. The crew arrived on schedule, and the job began. After a FULL day's work, my old fence was completely demoed, I had no gate, and two wide open entrances to my backyard. This is when things begin to go south. You see, I made it clear to Michael upfront that if I had to deal with my neighbor whom I share the fence with, the deal was off. He said I would not have to deal with them AT ALL. I arrived home from work to see they had left the old demoed fence in THAT neighbor's front yard. Really? I was told they asked the neighbor, and the neighbor said it was fine. Really? What a joke! The job took way too many days, including a Saturday and Sunday. Michael told me he would have his foreman (his son Nathan) out as soon as he woke up. So, I waited on my Saturday ALL DAY! I received a text from Nathan at 5:20 PM. "I'll be there to finish the job in about 30 mins." Seriously? I told him not to bother. I had friends over earlier in the week, and I can't say how embarrassed I was when they called out the sh! Tty work. So, I called to speak to the owner, Michael Coons about the quality of work performed by his son and two other employees. I asked to meet with him. He would not agree to speak to me in person without his two intimidators, Nathan and Brian (both quite intimidating in size and stature). I did not feel comfortable with those conditions but to get the opportunity to have a terrible $3,400 job corrected, I let it happen. If all you've read so far doesn't scare you away, the fact he was adamant in bringing those two individuals should be a warning to anyone wanting to hire this contractor. So, on my weekend (a week later), once they showed up to correct the multiple issues with the work performed, I was called out because there was the smell of alcohol on my breath. I had a few beers on a Saturday, in the privacy of my own home, and Michael didn't like the smell of my breath. It was stated, I was not qualified to speak! The owner MICHAEL COONS, said because I smelled of alcohol, whatever I said was combative and unworthy. My son videoed the entire situation. Coons was told he would be documenting the situation. The video shows how non-combative I was. Coons didn't like being held accountable for poor quality work. Seriously, look at the pics. I had to ask them to leave my property which they did as fast as the could. To add to the misery, during and after the job, I cleaned up multiple cigarette butts and water bottles, which was not okay with me or my family. They had no concern if any of the residents were sensitive to the smell of smoke, cigarette butts, or the trash they left behind. Multiple times an employee brought his girlfriend and an unleashed dog onto my property to wander around. And on and on and on.

The job was supposed to take two days, possibly a third half day.

This is when things begin to go south.

You see, I made it clear to Michael upfront that if I had to deal with my neighbor whom I share the fence with, the deal was off. He said I would not have to deal with them AT ALL.

Tip for consumers:
Owner comes across as a strong Christian man with strong moral values. I bought into that and feel I was duped.
