“New buyers shut business down”

Jill N.
12/2/17

The company ran for over 5 years with no issues. Like many companies, they did receive a review notice from the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection but was cleared. The owner sold the business not in the summer but in the fall and the new buyers did not put the capital they promised in the business and eventually failed and shut down. There was a suit between the old and the new owners but that was eventually settled. Other issues against the old owner were dissolved as well. Bad situation to see a good company go out of business in the hands of new owners who had no experience in ecommerce.

Former owner Mehmet Oguz, ripped off the new owners by fraudulently misrepresenting the business when he sold it to them. Oguz was sued by the new owners, Michael & Tang Hollingsworth in Fulton County (Georgia) Superior Court.

Oguz claimed a 38% profit margin. The Hollingsworths discovered after taking control that the true reason for the profitability of the company was a fraudulent scheme that charged customers for unwanted services. Oguz was charging customers a $29 fee for so-called "premier membership" for "free shipping" for a year, and coupons for other purchases. Customers had no means to opt-out of the fee thus the fee was unauthorized. The actual profit margin for sales was actually 4% before customers were charged with the fraudulent fee.

ALL of the scams pulled by CostCaptain, and the complaints made by customers took place before the September 9,2013 date when the new owners took over the company. The post by "Jill N." above was probably written by Oguz. Another of his scams was to use phony names for non-existent employees of the firm when complaints were made.

CostCaptain is now out of business

CostCaptain is now out of business. Too many people scammed. Law enforcement cracked down. The whole story hasn't come out yet. But, they are out of business.

The owner of CostCaptain, Mehmet Oguz was notified by the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection in the summer of 2013 that he was being investigated for Consumer Fraud. This notification also came after a request to investigate CostCaptain was made by the Kansas Attorney General to the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection.

Oguz then put the business up for sale. A couple bought it and discovered that Oguz was making nearly all of his money by fraudulent means. The couple filed a lawsuit. Oguz returned the money, and moved to California. The site where CostCaptain operated was left vacant and is out of business.

They are one of the worst! I've ordered from them twice and never again. They take forever to ship your product and you can't get anyone to answer the phone or reply to an e-mail. How do places with this bad of service stay in business?

Went to the website from Google Shopping where they somehow have decent reviews. I bought a product and selected 1-2 day shipping. After over a WEEK they sent me an email which told me that the item I bought was out of stock and that I'd have to wait a week more to get it in. Well, it's now a week and a half later and they still haven't even sent it. (if they sent it then it'd be marked enroute on the website)

Stay away from costcaptain.com!

Order was still "processing" after a week. Sent email to ask when it was going to ship as I had paid for express shipping. No reply. Cancelled order. Will take my business to someone less incompetent.

Quoted price via website, charged more than amount quoted, item never shipped, no response to multiple emails and voice mails.
Order Number: *******
Placed: 09/15/2013 14:32:13 EDT

1) I was billed a "shipping surcharge" that did not appear anywhere in the quoted price

2) Item was listed as "in stock". My Ccard was charged, and then I was notified that it was not available.

3) I was promised a weekly update by Kristi of Customer Care. This never came.

4) After a couple weeks, I requested an update on order status. None of my emails or voice messages were returned.

5) Repeated calls to their support line, *******222, result in being put on hold briefly, then sent to voice mail. No way to contact a real person, and the voice messages are not returned.

6) Finally, I requested my order be canceled and the amount they billed to be credited to my Ccard. As before, no response.

BUYERS BEWARE!

I placed an order for a Otterbox protective case from this website and I was allowed to complete the entire checkout process and was charged for the item only to get an e-mail from the company advising the following:
"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, however, the item you have ordered has gone out of stock and we have not received an ETA from the manufacturer as to when the rest of the stocks will arrive. We have cancelled your order and processed a refund"

If they don't have the item in stock they should not allow me to purchase and be charged. Now I am having to wait "2-10 business days" for a refund before I can take my money elsewhere to purchase the case. The item is still on the website as being able to be purchased even after they know it is out of stock.

I ordered FilemakerPro 12 academic version. I only order on-line using a credit card so the charge can be disputed. Good price and free shipping. As it turned out I ordered on Sept. 10 and received it on Sept. 18. Interesting got the shipping confirmation the same day the product arrived. I was pleased until I realized what the Free Shipping deal is.

I will pay the $9.99 shipping which is better than the $39.00 yearly recurring fee they would have automatically charged for the Premier Membership. Both my husband and I charge almost everything so may have taken me years to realize this charge.

Check this out:

Our shipping and handling costs are as follows*:

Free Your Premier (2 - 7 days) Free Shipping for orders up to 15 lbs.

Once you place your order you are giving us permission to start your Free Trial for our Premier Membership. You will have 21 days to cancel your membership. If you do not cancel after those 21 days you will be automatically billed $39 for a recurring yearly subscription. If you do decide to cancel before or after your membership you will be billed $9.99 for Shipping Charges on your original order.

"WARNING - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS FRAUDULENT COMPANY!

Placed an order on 4/10/13 for six monitors that were needed for a time sensitive project. I also paid for expedited shipping so that the monitors would get here as quickly as possible. I immediately received an order confirmation email and my credit card was charged for the full amount on 4/12/13. When the monitors still hadn't arrived by 4/25/13 I went and checked my order status on their website and it said Pending Review. Pending review? For what? CostCaptain already had my money! I attempted to call customer service several times that day and was always sent directly to voice mail without ever speaking to a live person. I then sent an email to customer service asking what the status was, when I could expect my order, and if it wasn't going to ship, that I then expected a refund. I received an auto-reply stating my email would be answered the next business day. Two days later I received an email stating that my order had been cancelled. At this point it became apparent that the product I ordered was never in stock to begin with and further research indicated that the monitors I had ordered had been discontinued by the manufacturer. Subsequent emails from CostCaptain said that a shipping delay email had been sent to me, which was pure hogwash, as no such email had ever hit our network. Furthermore, CostCaptain continues to show this product as in stock on their website even though it has been discontinued and is no longer available. By the time I get a refund, if I get one, CostCaptain will have had my money for well over a month for a product that they never could have had to begin with. This is a scam and a fraud of the highest order. BEWARE! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! Absolutely terrible! Also rated an F by the BBB...
