“I bought an RF/camera detector”

R L.
7/11/13

I bought an RF/camera detector. It was priced way below what other sites were asking for the same thing. I was happy. Then I bought another one for a friend but had trouble getting it to work. I used their email customer service. We exchanged tech info about the item and found it was defective. I mailed the item back to gadgettown. Within one week my card had received the full refund. I was satisfied doing business with gadgettown.com and will continue to visit their site when looking for cool merchandise.

“Bad--Bad-Bad They sent 1 item out of 3 and claimed i received 3.1 table and 2 stools; ( no Stools)”

All bad I bought a table and stool set; they did not send the stools. $ 114.47 Paypal Will not accept my claim against them. It's a simple case, with documentation and Paypal seems to have ties with them.

The products are very bad quality. They're not too expensive but still, it's one thin line away from scamming

This company does not sent a notice of a shipped item, it cannot be reached by any of their listed phonenumbers and the Chat does not work. They cannot be Skyped and they will never respond to your email messages. These are thiefs it looks like and it is a great wonder why paypal accepts them as a customer.
Funny thing is Paypal does not allow a ": Item displute: I did not receive an item I purchased or the item I received is significantly not as described" with this firm through their Resolution Center. Is it so that Paypal site is overloaded with complains about this firm?

I got what I ordered at a good price. It works with no problems.
Let's be real... when you buy from a foreign country, don't expect fast delivery.

They have the ABSOLUTE WORST quality products available. There customer service is HORRIFIC at best. I ordered the Ipad 2 screen digitizer and it had delaminating issues with the white border backing. I contacted them and they wanted pics as proof. No problem, I sent them the pics. They said, "Send in the defective item and we'll ship you a new one. Great, right? Two weeks later, I had received nothing so I contacted them again. They now wanted me to pay for shipping which was Not the agreement we had made. I told them to give me a new one or a refund. They say, "Would you take an 80% refund?". This consisted of over 20 emails over almost 2 months. Guess what? Still NO RESOLVE. I had to contact ebay customer service because gadgettown drug this out so I could not open a case. Ebay will take care of me and has assured me that Gadgettown will be investigated for their practice of non-compliance to the the ETHICAL way of doing business in this country.
I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE AS THE HASSLE OF NOT HAVING MY IPAD FOR THREE MONTHS HAS NOT BEEN WORTH IT AT ALL!

First gadgettown also has a couple other sites they use. The one i used was laserpointerpro.com ordered a laser that according to their own chart should have been pretty decent, it was not. It was no brighter then the 5mw laser i had and it claimed to be a 200mw laser. They claimed i would receive a refund but as of yet have not. They stopped answering my emails and never answer the phone. I paid with credit card so can not file a complaint with paypal. I am very unhappy with this company and lost money due to it.

Stay away from Gadgettown/Laserpointerpro! Run or at least click on Close as fast as you can! Scammer and fraudulent! I ordered a laser pointer and it is defective. I paid for the expedited shipping and that was the only positive from this company. It arrived very promptly. When it arrived I purchased batteries to try to fix it. Since that did not work, I have tried to get an authorization to return the laser and they continue asking me to try more batteries. The last two emails from them have avoided the return issue and keep offering to refund me $3 for a battery. DO NOT MESS YOURSELF OVER WITH THIS COMPANY!

Please stay away from this web site unless you want to waste your time and money. Placed three orders and never received one, two were defective/inferior items and trying to return them was a nightmare. First they wanted me to pay for the shipping, second the replacement items I received back were either defective or were never received as well. In addition, I paid extra for faster shipping and was told should expect delivery in 5 days - received items in three weeks. Paid through paypal and the customer service dept at gadget town (HA HA HA) sent us an e-mail offering a refund on the last day of the dispute period with paypal before we could elivate to a claim, trying to trick us. The following day, they no longer knew what we were talking about. My experience dealing with their customer service department is that they will tell you whatever they can to get you to go away. Was told over and over again that they would resolve my complaints if I would just wait 24 hrs for them to research it and then they would contact me. Trust me, they will never contact you! This is the worst customer service I have ever seen.

You've got to hand it to these guys, for sheer nerve. I can safely say this is the only site I've ever come across, which recommends you go to complaintsboard.com to read its reviews. Well, at least they're open about it:

"Where I can leave the review for you?
"Pls refer the below link:
Or you can go to some public review website:
resellerrating.com, complaintsboard.com"

Moving on, the site gives the clear impression of being a Chinese affair due to its varying degrees of success with English, although it presents itself as American, based out of New York. The domain registration is hidden, so it isn't possible to tell who the real registrant is. But that in itself isn't convincing evidence of anything suspicious, since reputable businesses may also mask their ownership information.

And there isn't any conclusive evidence that this is not as it seems, a perfectly respectable US website. Well, not exactly conclusive, though you might want to take a look at another site, called "muchbuy.com", which is most definitely Chinese and which shares a remarkable similarity with gadgettown.com:

"Why buy from MuchBuy.com?
"Leading Inventory
"MuchBuy supplies a comprehensive source of high-quality merchandise and brand name products. Keeping long-standing relationships with numerous major manufacturers ensure that our customers will get better prices, better availability, and exclusive promotions."

And from gadgettown.com -

"Our Guarantee
"1. Leading Inventory
"GadgetTown supplies a comprehensive source of high-quality merchandise and brand name products. Keeping long-standing relationships with numerous major manufacturers ensure that our customers will get better prices, better availability, and exclusive promotions."

Oops.

And over at an entirely unrelated and legitimate site belonging to a company called Petra:

""Petra is a solution-oriented company, making it easy for retailers to stay in step with advancing technologies that span across multiple markets in the consumer electronics industry"

Whilst

"Headquartered in Brooklyn NY, US, GadgetTown is a solution-oriented company, making easy for customers to stay in step with advancing technologies that span across multiple markets in the consumer electronics industry"

Frankly this is shaping up to be the sort of site I don't trust, so I wasn't too surprised to find it was owned by Gaingame, Inc, a chinese supplier currently involved in an intellectual property violation case in PA
(http://dockets.justia.com/docket/pennsylvania/paedce/5:2010cv*******/*******/).

This company is also behind yallstore.com and screenaid.com:

http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.yallstore.com
http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.screenaid.com

All of which share not only trading similarities, but also the same kind of broken-English reviews on Sitejabber. Do you think these might be a bit, well, phony?

Obviously a China staffed and merchandised company. Not necessarily a bad thing, just humorous in proper English usage. Product ordered was actually better than anticipated and priced well below other stores selling the same type of imports. Shipping was a tad slow, but hey, it was probably factory direct from far, far away.

I have used Gadgettown for online shopping many times. I was deeply impressed by the service and product it providing. I live in a remote area, far from the department stores, so I always rely on online shopping. And now I trust the seller very much for several shopping experiences with them. Overall, the price is reasonable, and the service is considerate. But the shipping is little slow. I hope you could do better.
