We had a nightmare with Car flexi due to our flight being delayed and the car being let to someone else but Goldcar were awesome. They got us a better car with no excess to pay and no hassle at all. The lady at the desk was an absolute star. Would highly recommend.

I am in Lisbon an hour and a half earlier than I thought. They don't give me my rental car because I am too early, but if I take an extra insurance they will do!. So the rental cowboys always try to make money with something. Is it not with the return it is with the pic k-up. So they don't care about their customer service. I will wait. Strange, because they do not return any money if you bring the car a few hours earlier back!

I am in Lisbon an hour and a half earlier than I thought. They don't give me my rental car because I am too early, but if I take an extra insurance they will do!. So the rental cowboys always try to make money with something. Is it not with the return it is with the pic k-up. So they don't care about their customer service. I will wait. Strange, because they do not return any money if you bring the car a few hours earlier back!

Do not use this company. We arrived late due to crew issues with EasyJet and the place was shut. Next morning I called first thing to pick up the car - the contract had been cancelled, they will not refund any money and furthermore they had no cars to rent (so our car had obviously been rented in the night, so there was no loss the Goldcar).
The guy on the phone simply didn't care and had no suggestions to help in any way.
Do not use this company.

I heard about Gold car and how they are manipulating their customers. I thought i can manage them especially that i have a full cover from an external company for the rented car.
However, they could cheat me in very smart way :). When I arrived the counted in Malaga airport, I showed the gold-car representative my insurance coverage. So he ignored it, and put the ultimate insurance coverage from Gold-car (in Spanish of-course) and claimed that this amount is a deposit and will be refunded back when returning the car. I did check with Gold-car customer service after one day and they confirmed that piece of info.
Surprisingly, they deducted the full amount when returned the car which makes me frustrated with no way to return back after several complaints.
DON'T be scammed by good prices over the flights booking portals because it is fishing technique to trap the customers and trick them with extra charge.
Never book again from GOLD-CAR :(

Tip for consumers:
Never do business with them as they are pioneers in manipulation and using the Spanish language to deceive the customers.

Do not book with them! They quote you low prices at the start only because they know they can trap you later with additional charges that are a) not reasonable at any level b) discrete and concealing as the contract you would sign is in Spanish c) outrageous they don't explain on any deduction and provide lame reasons when queried! Simply and unprincipled business I will never deal with

SCAM!. There is a strategy behind their revenue model. They lure you with low rents but try to cheat you out of money in all kinds of ways. 1 time when returning the car (Lisbon) tell them that everything is ok, but still mention any damage in the intake documents. Impossible to undo. So pay! Other times I received a car (Faro) that was completely full of damage. Not a problem in itself. On return they found a miniscule damage that I would have made. Pre-conceived strategy. So also pay. Always take pictures and video of the car you get. I suspect that if no photos are taken, they will take this into account (misuse) when returning the car

They use CARJET to sell you package and ask you to prepay, dont prepay because if your flight is delay you will not see your money anymore, no refund if you are late to
Pick up, they just canceled my contract and refuse to reimburse or accept one day delay for pick up due to flight delay, they kept and stole my money, about 1000 euros
I paid in advance. Dont do business this company CARJET/GOLD CAR!

After paying £209.34 and then an extra £76.56 for full insurance with Ryanair (No hidden extras!) prior to leaving the UK to hire a Renault Clio at Fuerteventura airport with Goldcar for 12 days, Goldcar have then charged us an extra £328.66 to hire the car. This isn't the fault of Ryanair, but just a scam by Goldcar, reflected by hundreds of negative comments on the Facebook page and *******@avoid_goldcar Twitter account, amongst other places reviewing their service. I'm not holding my breath, but they still need to refund me another £225.03. I'll be happy to re-review them if that happens.

Tip for consumers:
Just avoid Goldcar, or at least read the negative reviews on Which, the Goldcar facebook page, @avoid_goldcar Twitter page plus others. Goldcar are the cheap end of Europcar who themselves are appalling.

Please read reviews before using this company. From the moment we had the encounters with the kiosk staff at the airport, I knew this company were bad. The lady tried to pressure us to take an upgrade we didn't want, then tried to sell us extra insurance that we had already bought, which she said was worthless. She tried to convince us we had been scammed by Carjet who we booked the vehicle through. I didn't take the extra insurance but did have £1100 blocked on my car. When we got the car it was a wreck. I have never seen such a dirty beaten up hire car before, however we took pictures and left. The day before the end of the trip, my partner locked the keys (and all our belongings) in the boot! Our fault, but it took over three hours to get in touch with Goldcar. Then a further three for someone to come out. We were standing in a rain storm, freezing cold with barely any phone reception. Absolute madness. When we returned the vehicle, we asked for copy of invoice for the man to come and pop the lock. We were told one would be emailed. As yet, no email but money has been taken: I have requested an invoice now three times and received nothing. We need the invoice to claim on our insurance. (The insurance that was apparently worthless!)
Please think twice about using this company. Use a reputable one like Herts or Avis: at least you know where you are with them, even if you are paying a few euros more:

I strongly advise you don't use this company in Malaga. I had over 200 Euros extras added to my bill without any discussion or my agreement. In the small print, in Spanish!
It's called fraud.
Worst car rental in 35 years.
It's bad enough to get hassled at car rental pick ups to add extras you don't want and definitely don't need but normally it stops after making it politely clear you are not interested.
So smuggle it in your contract is on a totally different level.

So be warned. If you have already booked check your contract very very carefully. If you can, book with a different company.
Definitely NOT RECOMMENDING THIS COMPANY

Our booking had mistakenly had 1 am return which should have been 1 pm which was still within the 24 hour rental period as the car was picked up at 6 pm.

We pointed this out at pick up and the man processing the rental said nothing could be done to change it.

We emailed Goldcar with no response and then phoned them and the very polite lady said there was nothing she could do and that we would have to return to the office where we picked up the car. This involved driving an additional 2 hrs to be told the rental could not be changed and we had to make a new rental and get a different car.

Crazy situation that this could not have been changed when we first rented the car or by email, internet or telephone. Wasted half a day on a trivial matter.

We fly to Alicante a lot as we have a holiday home there and use hire cars every time, we have used Goldcar many times and apart from mainly damaged cars they have not been to bad untill now!, Yet another dented car but on our return home they charged us £500 for damages that were already there luckily we filmed the car on pick up and return and the paperwork even shows the damage that they say we done!, We have our own car hire insurance but that is not the point they are scammers and we have all ready started the battle with them and put in complaints with them and the broker

I have been trying on 13 October to make a new reservation on goldcar app (for Bodrum Airport 15-18 Oct). During payment process, after putting my mastercard 3D secure code, my debit card was charged 646,25 TRY. I didn't received any confirmation of the reservation. I have been calling to the office in Spain and the speaker said, that he don't see any new my reservation and after one hour money should be back on my account. Transaction have been finally settle on my card 15 October. I have been in Goldcar office on the Airport in Bodrum twice and they said, that they don't see any new my reservation and they advice me to wrote an e-mail to customer service... Of course they said, that they will not rent me a car beacause they don't see my reservation. I wrote a claim on 16th October. It's more than one month and they didn't reply. I sent them bank confirmation, that they charged me without doing a new reservation.

My conclusion - never use they app, they can charge you, but they will not deliver you any car.

Booked car, but at the counter they said I didnt have an international drivers licence. So I Lost the 110 € deposit. They said I should have read the contract. The contract says Only needed ID, credit card and driver licence. Now looking for juez don Quixote. What a way to start vacations.

I wish I read GoldCar reviews first.

Required an international drivers license (I have a U.S. license) and declined to rent to me but also declined to refund me! Took my money and did not render any services!

Upon arrival I was given a car that broke a few kilometers later. Went back to switch it and had to deal with a very unpleasant employee called Flávio Tomásio.
He refused to acknowledge car damages that were seen and weren´t in the documents. I rented the car for 11am, it was 22:30h and I was still at the rental in Lisbon trying to figure out my situation. It was the first and last time that I will rent with this company. I speak Portuguese and couldn´t understand the Brazilian staff with very low Portuguese skills. This started with the call center when I first called to inquire about some issues. The price is the highest you can get at Lisbon airport. Being a lawyer myself, I am still thinking if I should press civil charges for such bad service. Most employees don´t know how to deal with customers, contact is rude and not appropriated.

Avoid if you dont want to ruin your vacations. We were scammed at Lanzarote Airport and they wanted to charge us 200€ extra for additional insurance which we didnt accept. Then they didnt refund

Only purpose is to scam you into all sorts of extra payments! It is their actual business model. All tricks from the book apply: fuel charges, extra forced insurances, damages to an already scratched and dented car, extra payment for cleaning due to dog hairs etc etc. Just skip as initial price may seem attractive but you will pay more!

Booked a car through Holiday Autos (see my review) and was allocated a car from Goldcar. When I arrived after a 20 minute wait I was booked in and showed all the relevant documents including my extra insurance that I bought before travelling. I gave my credit card to allow them to block an amount in case of damage. All was well until I returned home and found that Goldcar had taken £165 from my credit card. I contacted Holiday Autos but the couldn't/wouldn't help so I contacted Goldcar who said I had purchased extra insurance. They emailed me a copy of the insurance document that had no customer signature on it. This was no surprise as I had never seen it and never asked for insurance, however they would not reimburse me. DO NOT GO NEAR GOLDCAR they will steal from you and you won't get your money back. On the upside because I could show my credit card provider evidence that I already had insurance and provided correspondence with Goldcar they reimbursed me. Don't rely on that happening, choose a reputable company and pay a bit more.

Stay away! Do yourself a favor: stay away from this company. If you do not pay what they will ask you on location, you will be left with no car, and no refund for the deposit. It is a scam. If you will deal with this company, you will regret it, guaranteed.

I was completely mislead by Goldcar. Many would say lied to. First the car was not at the airport so I had to wait for a bus and ride to their office. After paying in full on the internet I was charge about another $100 at pick-up. I was going to cancel and go back to the airport to rent a car from a legitimate company, but I realized I would loose the fee I paid over the internet and maybe they would not have a car available. I decided to cut my looses and take the car. Now they are trying to charge additional fees. A COMPLETE SCAM.

VERY CAREFUL with #GOLDCAR. December 25th I have rented a car at the Malaga airport. Contract *******. I paid the "super coverage" when I picked up the car, they charged me 115.15 euros as a deposit for the gasoline.! I have been informed that if I return the car with a full deposit, they will return the whole deposit. I have returned the car with full deposit day December 28. I have asked to review it with worker of GOLDCAR.he marked on the reservation sheet that I have returned full deposit. Goldcar has returned only 68 euros of over 115! What happened with my 47 euros. How to call it!?! You will say. IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN CHEETED BY THIS COMPANY. The same happened to us in fuerteventura, but then it was his word against ours, so this time I asked the gentleman of the GOLDCAR office to review it with me. Never again GOLDCAR! BE REALLY CAREFULL WITH GOLDCAR!

Got a car hired at Malaga. Car was a wreck dents all over, charged for petrol very expensive, filled up on the way back to airport and still got guarded for fuel used even though the tank was full, been in touch with the company six day ago, not interested won't talk, do yourself a favour don't use this company, DAVID
