Rented a car from Gold car at Malaga airport. I'd Prepaid for the rental but they asked for a deposit at the airport. I gave them my credit card and entered my PIN. On my return to the UK, discovered I'd been charged nearly £200 for insurance which I neither requested or needed. I contacted their customer service but received no helpful reply. I was either ignored or told nothing they could do. Complete and utter robbers. If u book with them, they will rip you off too! You have been warned!

Rented a car from Gold car at Malaga airport.

After returning the car to their Bodrum Airport office they decided that a "special" cleaning was necessary. Usually this is 250 TL in Turkey, but Goldcar took 1500 TL, outrageous.
Also my rental agreement stated a maximum amount for special cleaning 720 TL, so they took 780 TL extra, robbery!
Complaints to Goldcar did not work, they are simply not replying.

Avoid those scammers at all cost!

The Shift Lead Woman on Friday Evening 19.5.2023 at Malaga Airport was crazy! Rude behavior against customers who pay her income day by day! Telling us to not talk to her and showing us her open hand like a psycho! If this woman dont want to work, she should stay home! If she dont want solve customer problems then she should change the work! This is piece of $#*! behavior and belongs to the streets and not where people pay thousands every day!

Rented a car at Alicante airport.

We checked the car at the beginning with a fine tooth comb. It had lots of damage and scratches. Checked against the diagram they provide and they had left out a large scratch that hadn't been marked up, so I made them update the diagram.

We returned it a week later. They refused to check the car over immediately and made us give the keys. We have a flight to get so we don't have time to wait around.
I checked the car again, and there was NO new damage.

3 hours later they email me and have taken £140 from our card.
They have alleged that we are responsible for damage to the bonnet.
They attached a photo which shows a line of dust. NOT a scratch at all!

1 - refused to check the car in front of me when I returned it

2 - How is it ok to charge someone £140, without any repair quote, invoice or real evidence of damage?

We didn't take out Goldcar's insurance as we have our own insurance. They take advantage of this.

I have done research online and this is a common scam by Goldcar. Hidden fees and lies of damage. They charge whatever they want to make money. It's a scam.
There's Facebook groups about this and other forums online with other victims of the scam sharing stories with evidence. Search yourself.

Do not be tempted by the low prices - they are a bunch of cowboys.

Goldcar you have crossed the wrong person this time. Scamming me out of £140 will not be worth the it - as I will make it my absolute mission to spread the word of my experience and others and discourage every single person I know from using them.

I hire cars regularly through Alicante, and this has never happened before with any other company.
So just go with someone else. Trust me

Website is absolutely terrible needs a overhaul constantly errors I am in Ireland will only let me select uk with sterling prices set up an account & saved password to my i phone tells me no such account & not correct password numerous attempts just gave up in the end want more customers sort your website out

Wow! These are out and out crooks!
I booked the car through Booking.com for 8 days car hire from Lisbon Airport, and also took up their insurance policy. Good price, so far so good.
When I picked up the car, I felt there was something off, they tried to sell me their own insurance (not sure of legality of multiple insurances) but politely declined. I allowed their hefty deposit to be held on my credit card, but my suspensions made me take photos and generally be super vigilant of the car. When I returned the car, with full tank, and in identical condition as picked up, the inspection seemed to go well and car was accepted in good condition. I was asked to sign a digital form that also showed there were no problems. I was told the receipt would be emailed.
No email arrived and £182 taken from deposit with no explanation.
Booking.com are looking into this, but have not communicated with me at all.
So, I decided to use live chat with Goldcar (4 hours later) and was told there was a problem with the wheels. I have photographs to prove car was in good condition and have insurance to cover any damage. But Goldcar are unscrupulous and dishonest.
Please make sure if you're using them to have as much evidence as possible, photographs of car, petrol receipt and take a picture of tablet with your return form, as you won't get a copy on email and it can be altered to support their story after you sign it.
The money stolen from me is more than the cost of hire and insurance for 8 days.
I'd strongly recommend not to use Goldcar, but make sure you're covered if you do.

I went with gold car to save the hassle of going by bus… in the end the car was double the hassle. Even though I paid for full insurance, gold car took a £1000 deposit from me. The car they gave me over heated after one hour or driving… my four hour drive took six because of all the stops. They changed the car for me at my destination which took two hours - but at least I had a functioning car for the return journey. Now they won't give me my deposit back until the garage checks the car that overheated. As if it's my fault they gave me a broken car…
The customer service has been terrible. I've been told to email my complaint and got an automated response that they aim to reply to complaints in 14 days

We rented a car in Goldcar rental company at Sevilla airport. Pick up process was easy and fast. There was no problems when I told that I'm going to go to Portugal (I was informed that there I need to buy additional insurance - 8 euro per day). I rejected all other insurance options. Car was almost new in very good condition. No problems with rented car during whole rental period. Return was also fast and without any problems.

Problems started when I did not received back my deposit. When I did not receive deposit in 30 days I tried to contact GOLDCAR in that matter. The only option is email (no phone or chat is available). After couple of days I received information that GOLDCAR is fastest company in giving deposit back (!SIC!) and there were problems with processing my credit card (I was not informed about it at all). I received ink to form I needed to fill in. It turned out that I'll receive back less than half of my deposit.

It took a month (and around 10 emails) tho get clarity why I did not get my full deposit. It turned out that during contract signature person at the office included extra costs insurances that I was not informed about (and full contract was not shown to me).

In total I paid 3 times more for rental comparing to price I paid when booking reservation.

Some lessons learned:
- demand showing full contract at the office (bare in mind that contract is only in Spanish - no English version)
- demand showing all costs and deposit details before signing.
- if you are asked for fairly small amount of deposit (200 euro for 3 days in my case) - it means that you have additional insurance included and you will need to pay for it.

When I collected the car virtually every panel had damage so impossible to completely check.On return there was nobody available to check so I left the keys in the drop box.I was subsequently sent a damage report which showed a minor mark which looks like a dirt mark on one of the very few panels that was not damaged.I was also invoiced for 126.62 for the damage which is an absolute joke.I then received another invoice with an additional charge of 41.32 administration charge a total of 167.94
From review sites Goldcar appear to be crooked in their actions even though their website shows a very high approval rating.I have rented from Goldcar regularly for 18 years and when I have caused damage I have gladly accepted responsibility.
Needless to say I will never use the company again and will spread the word amongst all the organisations I am involved with in Spain as well as review sites.
I now understand why the queues at the counter in Alicante are a lot shorter than they used to be.

No alquilen en GolCar!
Si pudiera dejar cero estrellas lo haría.
Los precios bajos es una carnada para entrar en la trampa, ya que luego al entregar el coche, vienen otros cobros inesperados.

En mi caso particular, entregué el coche lavado, y por unos pelos de perro que quedaron en el maletero, me cobraron 150 Euros por "Limpieza-Grave"

Por otro lado, alquilé por tres meses, pero al mes tuve un problema y quice devolver el auto, y por temas contractuales, GoldCar no devuelve ninguna parte del dinero.

GoldCar, NO es una empresa que se obsesiona por entregar un buen servicio al cliente, por el contrario, busca cómo explotar a sus clientes con cobros irrisorios como el que mencioné anteriormente.

Tip for consumers:
No alquilen en GolCar !!!

Use Sixt or Europcar instead!
Horrendous experience with Goldcar Barcelona.
The car was dinted and scratched on every panel so I took a video before taking it. The Windscreen was filthy on the inside - So bad Infact I asked the Goldcar rep for for cleaner and paper towel and I cleaned it myself.
After that everything is fine until we were late getting to drop the car off due to some incident on the AP-7
We decided to drop the car with only 1/4 tank fuel rather than miss the flight. Normally other companies just over charge the fuel but not Goldcar … Oh no they over charge the fuel then add a €50- penalty then add €36- to remove a bottle of water we left in the car.
They email you from a no reply email so you cannot argue it! Contract number: *******

ZEER slechte ervaring gehad, we hadden een auto gehuurd op Palma de Mallorca airport PMI. De auto was in Nederland geboekt met aanvullende uitgebreide verzekering bij doyouspain ( dat hoef je ook niet te doen btw) Aangekomen op PMI was de geboekte auto niet aanwezig, we kregen een upgrade waar ze ons eerst voor wilden laten betalen! Nou prima grotere auto, akkoord. De 2e dag met de auto, de auto kreeg pech, epc lamp ging branden. Snel met dochter een vluchtstrookje op, de auto ging gewoon uit. Hulpdiensten gebeld, deze kon ons na 1,5 uur pas vinden, auto meegenomen en wij lopend naar het appartement. Goldcar had gezegd neem thuis de taxi naar pmi voor een nieuwe huurauto, hoezo? Waarom niet een taxi via hun of mee met de afsleep maatschappij? Na een paar uur weer aangekomen bij pmi, een hele dag autohuur weg. We kregen een andere auto mee, de taxi kosten 80,- euro zou via aanvullende verzekering gedekt zijn. Hoezo? Hun auto krijgt pech dan hoor je dat toch af te handelen! Nou nee dus, ze hebben ons gewoon laten zitten. Via doyoupspain (de aanvullende verzekering) waren we hiervoor niet verzekerd. In nederland nog gemaild met goldcar, maar geven geen gehoor, zo irritant! Voor ons NOOIT geen Goldcar meer!

I rarely do reviews but this one was a robbery and I want to share. It ruined my whole vacation, I hope it will help someone fall for the same trap.
I booked a car through rentalcars. Total rent prepaid £101.27. This included full insurance from the rentalcars website. When I arrived I was told my full insurance was not full insurance, just a refund on eventual claims and they wanted £1000 deposit. If I didn't want to block the money on my card and have little left for holidays, I needed to pay extra EUR 62. I is 11PM and I am tired. I pay. To this, it was added EUR 33 for the late time of pick up. This was another surprise. Really? I indicated it when I booked, no mention of the extra pay. It is 11Pm and I tired, I pay. So I go and check for the car. The car is not there. 55 minutes later, unanswered phone calls all over the world, the desk closed, I take a taxi and go to the hotel. I take a taxi back next day. They apologized. Surely the car was there but not in the part. Just outside. They apologize for not telling, but no refund. So the from a total of £101 please add 129.73 EUR of tax, late pick up, extra insurance, +46 EUR of taxi from and to the airport + stressful phone calls all over the world for assistance. It was more than a robbery to me. It was a whole holiday ruined.

Its scum. Take deposit for full tank. Disnt send it back with full tank returned. Charge additional 50€ after i return car from my card without any explanation or even answer on my emails.

FOOLS GOLD?
I did not want to pay for Super Relax insurance cover

Arrived at Malaga airport to collect a pre paid hire car inc basic insurance cover the assistant informed me my credit card was blocked as I tried to secure a deposit of 1500 euros payable if you want to avoid there expensive insurance cover.
They then informed me my 2 debit cards were blocked as I tried to pay deposit by debit card and there would also be a charge of 400 euros would be to take deposit and return deposit if cards were not blocked.
The only other alternative was to pay an extra 280 Euros for the super relax insurance cover that I did not want and guess what? My cards magically worked for them to take payment.
This company will sell you a hire vehicle at a cheap price then when you arrive to collect they will rip you off
PLEASE READ OTHER RENTERS REVIEWS AND DO NOT BOOK A HIRE CAR WITH THIS COMPANY

Unfortunately, I probably have a deal with a company of thieves who offer car rental through rentalcar.com and then find all kinds of ways to steal your money.
First when I arrived at the booth I was "informed" that the deductible for theft was 2500 euros and if the event happened in Naples 3500 euros.
When I presented them the agreement with rentalcars stating that participation is only 1600 euros "let me know that it doesn't interest them and these are their terms" [luckily the car was not stolen]
In addition, they would not accept my driver's license on the grounds that "I need an international license", with no choice, I had to pay 62.5 euros to register another driver who was with me and had such a license.
Obviously I did in the Ministry of Transport, it turned out that there is a treaty between Israel and Italy and no international license is required.
When I returned the vehicle the tank was full, perhaps less than a liter or two consumed from the gas station in the city until arrival at the field, for the above I was unknowingly charged at 12 euros and 50 euros "handling fee"
Yesterday I received a letter from them intending to charge me 55 euros "handling fee" for the fact that they forwarded my details to her towns for a parking report sent to them. [The report I will demand to pay separately]
My attempts to get into their email while introducing the contract tax go up.

Unfair - misleading - do not use them!

My father in law (80yrs) rented a car and took out EVERY insurance option he could take - including "key and go".
Upon receiving the car at ALC (a Citroen with more than ******* Km on the clock) he noticed a LOT of user damage / and the car was "soiled and unkept") and went back to the desk clerk to ask for a joint inspection. The answer was " no need - you are FULLY INSURED".
(he hated driving it as it was - in his words - "dirty")

When returning the car at the airport - a week later - he asked the attending clerk for an inspection / once again was told - "no need", drop keys in box please.

After a few days a letter was received from Goldcar advising that they had found stains in the upholstery and they had taken 150 Euro from the credit card.
(to clean the car they say / after they refused the inspection at the start of the rental - as he TOLD them so)...

That is theft - that is unfair and misleading - if you ask for a joint inspection due concern about the state of the car - and it is deemed not neccessary - then you can not charge a customer later for something that was already there.

Now Goldcar - after a lot of writing to and fro with Customer Service persist in this charge - yet - believe me - this will cost them.

We run / manage a walking (Caminantes) group on the Costa Blanca (trails in the Hinterland) and have around 150 to 180 guests per annum that all rent a car. We will advise each and every one of them that a rental from GoldCar is simply not acceptable - and we will make sure that we spead the "news..."

If Goldcar wish to cheat a customer out of 150 Euro's - we will make sure that they never get the opportunity again from anyone we know.

Be aware - they are not honest!

I've rent a car in Istanbul airport and after returning the car I received many credit card deduction messages without any explanation and after long trail of emails and complaints to goldcar customer service they told me it's toll service without any details of this charge
They charged me toll service an amount more than the rent cost itself in 10 days

Rent with Goldcar in Europe at your own risk. Beware of the small print. They charge up to 150 for 'special clean' I returned car with beach dust. Car was inspected told all good to find my CC hit with two 50 charges. One apparently incorrect charge the other to clean dust! Their answer you agreed to the T&C's

In the E_ mail there is no word about the Insurence money, they make me paid 150 € for Insurence and after one day the charging caple stuck in the car I was with two kids in the street from 11 pm until 2 am then I take a taxi to hotel and leave the car in the street next day I had to take another Taxi from the hotel to where the car is. The customers service are the worst ever after 10 times trying to reach someone speak English they send me someone told me he can't help meit not his specialty
I had to take taxi and go back to the airport where I did the contract they were rude and lier and told me to calm down
How can I calm downan I had to leave two kids alone in Hotel one son is 5 years old because of their car, then they send me to the Coldcar parking, the workers there, were nice they told to go back and wait next to the car and they wil send someone to help me and they call me back to make sure everything was ok. And the problem of the car was silly and the office in the airport didn't tell me about the problem of the electro car and they lied and said they told me, the woman who did the contract told me it is better than the benzin car then she lied and told me I've told you that the electro car had always problem. I stayed in the street from 08:00 am until 15:00 pm just wating in the street.
I lost one day of my vacation cuz of them

I want to complain and got some of my insurance money because they let me waste one day of my vacation because of their car and leave my kids alone

*ABOUT Goldcar MALLORCA AIRPORT - I can't speak about the mainland or any other service.
The 3* is only because of the great quality of the cars, othervise it would be 1*!
From their page:
"Book now with Goldcar and forget about availability problems on your holiday." - Nope!
"We have 24/7 roadside assistance available in several languages." - Nope!
We're at home now, still waiting for the other shoe to drop, though, because they didn't pay back us all the money they promised and didn't gave us a reason why.
Our plane was an hour and a half late, so they did not give us the car we booked, but an other SUV, that part is fine (if your plane arrives too late they give you a similar car that you booked).
The car was superb, clean, etc. EXCEPT: no replacement wheel in the car, only an automatic pump-something.
The mistake we made was that we did not check that in the city we stayed for the holiday whether the company have an office there - it was our first time to rent a car, we were oblivious about how it works. They have only one - in Palma de Mallorca. Lesson learnt - on the hard way.
On our very first day, in the late afternoon hours we had a flat tire when we visited a popular tourist attraction in a mountainous area - the farthest on the island from Palma, the middle of nowhere, literally, far away from our hotel. No public lighting, no reception, nothing, but moblie phones running on low battery beacause of the all day long photographing - the car was only able to charge one at a time, quite slowly and the cold didn't help either.
A nice tourist family tried to help us, but the autopump whatever was a worth nothing, the damage was extensive, so we needed assistance.
The family took my husband trying to find a place where there is reception, meanwhile me and my 8 yo were alone, the sun was getting low, getting dark, strong winds, cold, etc.
After more than half an hour the family brought back my husband, he was able to talk to the Goldcar office, using the phone number they gave us.
My husband explained to them what happened and exactly where. The operator asked whether we're on the main road or the Northern road. (facepalm) Man, it's the freaking northernmost lighthouse on the island we're talking about, there's only one road, The road.
When it seemed they finally understood, they said okay, they going to send assistance and we'll get an other car, stay still. Okay.
One hour later my husband had to walk up several hundred metres on the mountain road (in pretty bad condition) in pitch black and freezing cold wind - the nice family and all the other tourists went home by then. He was able to call the office again, but they kept waiting him and tried to find an operator who actually speaks English!
The long day and the cold did their job: in mid-call our last able-bodied mobile turned off.
We were alone several kms from the next town or any human really, in the a*se-end of nowhere in a foreign country, completely helpless, with a small child and ill person - me, running out of water and food in the dark.
We had no choice, but try to reach the next what- or whomever where we could call help.
With a flat tire, in the dark, on a dangerously bad quality serpentine road, on crazy steep mountains/slopes.
We were able to go around 3-4 km, stop from time to time to cool down what's left of the tire (it was ragged), when burnt tire smell filled the car.
The vehicle was useless, we didn't know where we were and the hotel was still 20 km away. We tried to charge a mobile, but it was fruitless.
A security guard on night patrol found us and he called us a taxi. He told us that - it was Sunday - no matter what the Goldcar office said nobody will help us, because no one who could help works on Sunday evenings!
The taxi came quickly, but it was 22.00, when we got back to the hotel.
Next morning the company questioned us, why we left the car where we left it. Wtf?! So, we were supposed to spend the night in the mountain forest with a knackered child, without food, water and facilities?
They argued, but they eventually agreed to pay back the costs of the taxis. Update: they claimed they lost one of the taxi bills, so they could not pay it back!
But! My husband had to go to back where we left the car, then wait for the transport vehicle, then get back to Palma, then wait for an other car, then get back, it was afternoon when he got back to us - so basically they left us in deep sh*t and took one day from our holiday.
Not recommended. Never again!

Never trust this company! Gold only in pocket of these thievish company!
Car they gave me had an accident: bumper falling apart, no cooling system in engine, no AC, no water apparently. It was scaring no get stuck with it.
Especially not clear what kind of company could put drivers into risk of accident giving car like this.
Few days after I exchanged the vehicle making all around photos,
And guess what, when I eventually returned it back, guy found some nano scratches underneath the bumper,
" I don't care about your photos" he said. Please pay 500 euro now or I don't return your deposit and you miss your flight.
After he fabricated report, signed it. As I did some damage to car, which I did not.
So now I have false charges to my credit card and surely got NO my deposit back.
Please whoever you see - warn to never come to these criminal.

Contrato *******, Numero de cliente ******* - Case #*******

I did everything by the contract and left the car absolutely fully, I even went to fill up 10 minutes before dropping the car to put to the maximum expending 3euros more, so to make sure all was perfect. I left the car and they charged me 62euros because they said the tank was not full! I sent the proof of payment and not they do not answer to "any of this claims on the phone" & an by email they do not respond, so is the perfect crime... they are thieves with no honour.

Hice todo tal y como dice el contrato, deje le coche completamente lleno, incluse pare 10 minutos antes para rellenar 3euros mas y asegurarme que estaba hasta arriba de gasolina. Deje el coche en el aeropuerto en su sitio y me dicen qu eme van a cobrar 62euros porque decian que no deje el deposito lleno! Envie las pruebas del pago, lugar y hora exacta de cuando llene el deposito y con un extracto de mi banco. Ahora dicen que "no responden a este tipo de question en el telefono" y al email no responden a ninguno de mis email. Me llejan esperando un mes sin respuesta y con mi dinero en sus manos. Esto es una estaba y un robo, son unos ladrones.
El dinero no es mucho pero el el principio lo que jode porque te roban el dinero y en teoria m=no puedes hacer nada pero no me voy a cansar de ensenarle al mundo que tipo de ratas son estos.
Tambien voy a hablar con mi abogado y ver que acciones legales puedo tomar.

Son unos estafadores y seguire con comentarios en todos lados hasta que me respondan y me devuelvan el dinero robado.

At the counter I began to be suspicious because of their long discussions with a British couple. So I photographed my car in their parking stall when I returned it early morning before they opened. They still charged me for damage, sending a photo of the fender on which I could not see any damage other than two 2 mm nicks at the base of the fender, possibly from a pebble on the road. I hardly drove the car; I am sure it is not from my rental. Charge is 100 euros. How many people before me have they charged for the same nick? Read the multiple negative reviews on Goldcar.

Tip for consumers:
Make they mark even the slightest abrasion, nick, scuff, tear, inside and out, on the rental contract.
