“Good financial check printing”

Helen M.
3/9/20

I think that this business offers good financial check printing. A lot of banks offer their check printing through Harland and Clarke. However, since checks are an increasingly scarce commodity that is not as heavily used in the world of online commerce and banking, I think this is soon to be a disappearing feature of banking and the financial industry. They are also behind many check fraud protection procedures such as VeriScan, mobile security features, and updated packaging like CheckFolio from various banks. A selection of their checks are available through Costco and Walmart, not other sites like Checks Unlimited, Extra Value checks, etc., they don't offer them through many other online retailers.

“Hacking the (automated phone) System: One star because ZERO is not an option”

Nunya B.
10/10/22

My firm placed an order for business checks over the phone almost three weeks ago, the status details of which did not show on the website. The automated phone system prompts you early in the call to enter your routing and account info. This notifies the system on whether you have a pending order. If you have a pending order, the system's options tree will always pigeonhole you towards two outcomes: 1. Instructs you to check/shop the website and disconnects, or 2. Gives you the minimal amount of information and disconnects. You are never provided an opportunity to speak to a human because they don't WANT you to speak to a human. This is a critical failure on the part of Harland Clarke and for this alone, I wish I had ordered through literally any other company. To "hack" this system, enter "0" as your routing number and you will be presented with different options which will eventually connect you to a real person. When I did finally speak to a human, I was informed that my order was not entered properly (by the previous CSR,) would never be fulfilled, and needed to be cancelled and a replacement order placed. Bottom line: I should not have to manipulate Harland Clarke's faulty automated system to learn that Harland Clarke screwed up my order. Harland Clarke: Do better by your customers. Financial institutions: Contract literally ANY other company. (Seriously, read all the other reviews which are chiefly a well-deserved 1-star.) Consumers: SHOP ELSEWHERE!

I recently ordered checks from "Harland Clarke". I wish I had checked the reviews before ordering. When the checks arrived, they lacked information. There was a notice that said, "Please inspect before using" and "Immediately call our customer service department if you find and error." No phone number or email were given. After multiple phone calls and internet searches, I finally was able to find a number to call, however, after giving them the required information, I was informed that they could not help me. Don't use this service!

Tip for consumers:
They offered not customer service or any way to easily reach them.

OVERPRICED-I am happy with the quality of the personal checks that I ordered, however, the quantity of the checks offered was 20% fewer than when I last ordered at the same cost or more. My real complaint is with the check registers. I am beyond disgusted with what Harland Clarke sent to me as check registers for which I was charged $19.72 plus tax! The check registers are super thin only allowing for 117 entries per register. These are less than half the capacity of my previous registers! Had I known what size these were I would NOT have ordered from Harland Clarke. The Harland Clarke website does NOT provide any description as to the capacity of its personal check registers, so I mistakenly assumed they were the same size as my older registers which at $19.72 was still outrageously expensive considering that extra registers used to be automatically included when purchasing checks.

I got checks but were no registers included to record the checks. Cost savings I'm sure but stupid.

Tip for consumers:
I think they did this to save money on printing costs

The first checks ordered were never found. They were never delivered to us or returned to the Harland Clark. This recent bank check order is waiting a month - no one is responsible for the lost checks. Liberty offered an express service for Over $300 to deliver the checks quicker. This is the second Bank Check order of bank checks to not show up. Several other complaints on line have been listed to the company Harland Clarke in the April and May of 2023 for missing checks. Liberty is another company involved in check delivery for Harland Clarke. The customer service For Harland Clarke does not talk to the customer- so go into the Bank and have the banker call. Good Luck.

This large company has been around for a long time. Given that, their outdated website with missing information was alarming. Some missing info: prices of items, what kind of checks an item is (regular, duplicate), how long it takes to get the checks, how long it takes to get items delayed due to supply issues. This info may appear late in the process, like during checkout, but isn't there while you are shopping. I looked for free registers and free vinyl check books like banks give out. There was confusion around that. At the checkout some items appeared to be free. The cost said 0, but it's hard to tell if that was intentional or a dysfunction.

Website poorly designed: on my phone I first saw tiny pictures of the check designs that were too small to mess with. I had to do a lot of clicking and waiting to sort through the choices. This took 5-10 times more time effort than it should have.

The quality of Harland Clarke checks is declining. I've used their checks for decades. They age more quickly than they used to.

Their 800 number recording asked me to input lots of information only to tell me that customer service was closed. Nowhere on the website does it give their hours. Major dysfunction.

Mysterious shipping options. No shipping companies are named. They say they have traceable options. Most of their BBB complaints were about delivery issues: 15. Not a ton considering the size of the business, but alarming nonetheless. Many of the complaints mentioned that they used DHL. I don't consider DHL to be a reliable company.
