We have been with Home Chef for a little over 3 months. A little surprised at the negative comments. Aside from one incomplete order which they immediately refunded have been very satisfied with the quality and customer service. Also delivery has always been on day we designated. We've enjoyed trying meals we otherwise wouldn't have made ourselves. My only "complaint" is noticing that trend seems to be toward more expensive meals. Like to stick to the $8.99 options.
I've been using HC for years. Over 380 meals on my account. I finally canceled my subscription today due to yet ANOTHER week of missing food. Every single week it seems I'm missing either the meat or the meal kit of one meal. Customer service is very friendly and always refunds me for the meal, but I'm sick of having to call them. I use a meal delivery service for a REASON...so I don't have to plan my dinners. So it's incredibly annoying to have a missing dinner almost every week. I really hate to cancel as I love the food, and the selection is one of the best I've seen, but in the last few months, their quality control has been garbage.
I had a total of 9 meal kits delivered and I'm done wasting money. I used all kits within one week of delivery and I've had several problems from missing products, expired products (sour cream, naan bread), bad produce (either vinegar smell from being expired or soggy potato's), and on 2 occasions liquid from a product leaked out and covered all the other ingredients (both times were from bagged veggies). Not to mention, everything is covered in plastic! It made me feel like such a wasteful person pulling green onions or carrots out of a plastic bag. Just buy fresh ingredients from the store cause their produce is far from fresh.
My husband and I loved Home Chef when we 1st started using the service pre-pandemic. During the pandemic the service started slipping with issues around late deliveries, missing items and rotten produce. We gave Home Chef the benefit of the doubt, and accepted the inconsistency - eventhough the cost remained the same. Now that the pandemic is over the service remains subpar and we are tired of having to call and complain at least 1x/ month if not more often! Seriously thinking about canceling for good…such a shame!
I was double charged for same order. Requested a refund and it took 2 customer service reps and one supervisor to get the error corrected. Don't waste your time with HomeChef.
Tip for consumers:
Pay attention to your credit card charges.
These guys must be hurting for money. They've tampered with my orders multiple times adding meals and deserts so they could charge me more. After the third time I dumped these clowns. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH ACCESS TO CHARGING YOUR CREDIT CARD!
We received a gift card for HomeChef.com and used it. Overall, the service is fairly expensive and has very limited options. The limitations become very rigid if you avoid fish and dairy - one week, we only had three possible dishes to choose from.
On the last week, they left out one item from the order. When asked to correct this, they instead gave us a partial credit to use for future orders. Since the gift card's out of funds, we're not going to place further orders - so we can't get the missing item unless we buy another week's worth of food!
My husband and I have been getting Home Chef for several years. (I think 141 meals to be exact!) We typically alternate with Hello Fresh and Freshly when we don't like the weekly suggestions. Sadly, I think we may be quitting Home Chef for good because of delivery issues. FedEX is horrible. We have gotten two deliveries this year a day late, so we've had to throw them out. One time, FedEx left us a note saying we had to go to their facility to pick up the box because it required a signature... NOT! Until they switch carriers, we are off Home Chef. Our box was mailed out Monday - and it's Thursday morning and we are just getting it. Thus, it won't be properly refrigerated until 5pm tonight - and likely the chicken will be on its way to spoiled.

I tried 2 of the Home Chef Heat and Eat meals, both had the same weird taste. The first meal was the beef stroganoff with egg noodles which had a really bad after taste. The second meal was the homestyle meatloaf and red skin mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was delicious but the potatoes had the same funky after taste as the beef stroganoff. Not sure how fresh these meals are or what is making them taste so funny. I won't be purchasing them again.

The food itself is fantastic, but Fed Express is delivering late resulting in unusable food. Cancelled my subscription as a result.
I gave this company so many chances. I think out of about 12 boxes one may have been correct. Boxes consistently arrived thawed and warm, unsafe. Ingredients were nearly always missing. Customer service would usually issue a credit for incorrect orders but going through the process of throwing out food and having to go back and forth with homechef to get my money back was ridiculous.
My final straw was when I received an email from the account department berating me for using coupons THEY MAILED TO ME.
This company will never get my business and I will tell everyone who will listen how pathetic they are.
Tip for consumers:
Buyer beware!
I picked up a rack of pork ribs Smoke St. Louis Style BBQ Ribs for memorial day 2022 from Kroger's I was looking forward to a nice meal since I rarely buy meat since it is so expensive I was so disappointed on the quality of these ribs they were nothing but full of fat I do not think I got three bites of meat out of these ribs by the time I got through half the rack which I threw away I gave up and threw the entire rack out, sadly I pay $12.99, which I have spent on that on a burger instead. Kroger used to have their own ribs which I loved but these were very sad I bought one other product from Home Chef in the past and was disappointed then, I thought I would give it another shot but never again.
When people sign up for these type of services you expect at least reliability meaning you will get the food on time. That's why I don't buy groceries, I expect the box. This is the second service I go thru and maybe the last, where the boxes don't arrive! I'm sick and tired of the COVID excuse too. If they can't de; over on time or at least let their customers know in advanced so they can get groceries, then do someth9ng else!
I got the " your box is late" for the third time, and it never got here. I suspended my account, waiting for my refund. Food is great, but again with an unreliable service, who cares how good the food taste..
Tip for consumers:
Don’t bother, you might get a box, you might not....and you’ll get the COVID excuse every time.

No Star. Be careful everyone, Home Chef got my information stolen back in year 2020. You might have your information stolen too.

My husband and I HAD been using Home Chef for a year, but just cancelled our service. The service started off great even when the recipes started getting remarkably similar and the vegetable side was too often squash. Over the last few months, I found myself contacting them at least once or twice a month with issues that they don't seem to care about. Due to the lack of care when packing our box, too often was there a puncture or tear in a package of meat causing blood or goo to get all over everything. Sometimes we paid for a fancier meat like filet mignon and didn't get it. Other times, vegetables were soft, wilted, and the issue that caused the cancellation was that we received a garlic clove that had mold growing on it! The quality of ingredients has gone completely down hill and it's no longer acceptable considering this isn't a cheap service. If you had asked me a year ago if I recommend, I would have said yes, but now, heck no! Do not waste your hard-earned money for inedible ingredients and poor customer service.
I cannot get a phone number and please know you if you try you are going to get the run around. Anyone that can get a phone number let me know
I got my food it was warm and spoiled. I will not order from them again. It was my 1st and last time ordering.

Honestly, the food isn't bad.
What I have a major problem with is that I waited for DAYS after the scheduled delivery date to receive my box. This happened on multiple occasions. Needless to say, I was expecting a timely delivery and when my meals never showed, I was stuck without anything to cook for dinner.
On top of that, when my last box eventually DID show up, everything inside it was warm, including the ice packs. I opened the box as soon as it was delivered, so it's not like it was sitting for a long period of time. I had to throw the entire thing out!
I would NOT recommend Home Chef... unless you enjoy late deliveries and room temperature, raw chicken.
We ordered 6 boxes of Home Chef. A lot of Steak mostly. Grey and cheap meat. Chewy. Inedible. Gross.
I used to love this company but since March 2020, my deliveries have been consistently late or simply not happened. I finally cancelled my account and demanded a refund because I need groceries that I can count on getting here, especially now. Sad to see, but I will have to try something else
Home Chef has been exceptional. The food has been excellent in taste, and has a good selection of menu options. Too date, the package comes when it is supposed to. The cooking instructions are clear and easy to follow. They provide a binder for all the recipes that you will want to keep... which is all of them. Very happy I found Home Chef.

Tried twice. Both times they were delivered 2 days late making the food hot so it had to be thrown away.
I have been absolutely disappointed with the ON TRAC delivery service used by Home Chef. I live in Seattle and the shipments originate in California (usually Ontario). My delivery day is Thursday. My family orders veggie and FISH meals. Several times, the food took FIVE DAYS on the road to arrive! FISH SHOULD NOT BE RIDING AROUND IN A TRUCK OR PARKED IN A WAREHOUSE FOR FIVE DAYS! As for the ice packs, the most recent order arrived FIVE days after dispatch, and contained ONE ice pack... for FISH?! ON TRAC does not deliver on weekends. We used to get deliveries by FEDEX, but it seems the company is trying to save money by using an inferior shipping service. When I spoke to ON TRAC, they suggested I contact Home Chef and ask for a change of shipper! When I speak to the HC customer service folks, they say, "the SYSTEM chooses the delivery service". I'm sorry, but there has to be an override to change delivery services. My sister lives in California and receives Home Chef deliveries via FEDEX... why can't I?
Our weekly deliveries of fresh, perfectly-portioned ingredients have everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals in about 30 minutes.
