This is a local social network, along the lines of the (now defunct) Streetlife. Security is good, and also anonymity - aliases are welcome and no private info shows. New features are being added regularly and there is great personal support from the owner. It's still a very young site, which has an excellent membership base in the Kent area, but is still struggling a little elsewhere. The site is free of charge, there are no requests for money to keep it going. Communities are based around postcodes and surrounding areas so can be as big or as small as you like. There is also a 'general' area so that if you happen to live in an area which has not yet taken off there are still people to chat to. Give it a go, it costs you nothing and has the potential to be really great.
Signed up to this site almost 6 months ago and home page gives you this message: "Sorry, we've had to introduce a queuing system for new users whist our hardware is upgraded to cope with the demand. Hopefully this will be completed soon." Still can't access, what a joke, even the people who recommended it to me from Kent where I used to live so we could stay in touch have now said don't bother! Grrrrrrr, what a waste of time!

If you miss Streetlife and are looking for a replacement there are a bunch of new similar sites out there, some good, some bad. Lowcle is one of the rare good ones. It's a really easy to use social site with a real community feel. It needs to boost its membership in my area but it seems to be growing steadily. Members are nice, the site admin seems efficient, they're not heavily censoring or asking for money like one of the bad sites and they are secure and private like one of the good sites! I'm not overly into social media as a rule but Lowcle is providing lots of interesting and varied content so I'm signing in more often. https://lowcle.uk
Tip for consumers:
There's no www in the site address so could be a bit tricky to find first time: https://lowcle.uk
Lowcle is a private network where people can securely share information about their local area, without exposing their personal details.
