I am editing my original review. I think Midtown is amazing for the occasional damaged order. But on the bright side. They are always willing to fix things that went wrong.

“Damaged Books!”

Should have checked reviews on these guys! Never have I dealt with a store that doesn't replace damaged books they shipped! They only email, no calls have you send pictures, and then told you they will give you 25% off the damaged books or I pay to ship the books back for a full refund! I'm a collector and I expect if you damage the books to replace them not give me the runaround. Stay away from online orders not worth the hassle!

Title says it all. It's unfortunate that they have such a solid selection as the folks who work there are just cashing it in and the customer service is nonexistent. As in they don't even answer questions, phones etc and make no effort to remedy their own mistakes.

After dropping over $200 this holiday season in gifts there for many, you would think when they screw up an order and overcharge there would be some semblance of loyalty in the effort to make it right? Think again.

Pull list deleted, future orders canned. Last time customer here, that's for sure.

Tip for consumers:
Don’t bother. The service is so bad you’ll regret your purchase. Other smaller comic shops deserve your business.

I love midtown comics. I'v been going to their store in NYC since i was a kid. The first time you shop on their app they give you a 20% off code so that is nice. Overall the site is ok. Could be designed better but it's still simple enough to find what you want. So to sum up, if you want a comic or comic related item, you can probably find it on the site

One of the worst I've dealt with in 25 years. Third and final time. Serious price-gouging on books, which take far too long to "process," and are shipped sporadically, usually late despite my having always paid for expedited shipping. Usually you can expect amateur-hour stuff like this from the errant eBay seller, but at least there's recourse. Midtown Comics is a blight on the retail community. Go anywhere else (except "Unknown Comic Books," as they are about the same).

I signed up for 12 issue subscriptions for Batman and Justice League, it took 3 months for my 1st issue to arrive and I haven't received another one since, that was 4 months ago. Their customer service is garbage. They'll steal your money and lie that they sent the product despite offering no evidence to prove it. Stay far away from them, they're awful!

I have found that Midtown Comics are committed to shipping valuable comics to International customers in USPS Flat Rate Envelopes without the necessary protection of its contents and in full knowledge that these comics may suffer damage in transit.
Myself and others before me, have suffered loss from this inconsiderate and unethical policy.

From my experience in trying and failing to receive what I ordered, and now after almost a year trying to obtain some kind of value for what I paid them, in my opinion, this company consists entirely of thieves, liars, and lying thieves. At first I attributed it to incompetence, but their customer service has convinced me they are petty and vengeful. Do not expect anything sooner than the very latest they commit to, which is 6-8 weeks. In reality, it will be well beyond 8 weeks; then, when that date is passed, they will tell you it will be coming and to give it another 4 weeks. I'm so sick of giving them my time I'm not even going to do everything THIS site allows to verify my story, I've done enough of that. Midtown Comics has performed so unethically and dishonestly that I contacted their local BBB and am now actively looking for sites like this so as to warn people about them. They truly deserve to go out of business. Looks like Disney and Marvel no longer care about comic readers. Go figure.

Placed an order for 2 expensive comic books and the books arrived damaged. After contacting the company and being offered a 25% discount or return I selected the return option. After they received the books and constantly stated that the books never arrived I had to get PayPal involved. Within a day of filing a dispute I received the funds. Stay away unless you want to deal with the BS and ineptitude of customer service.

I recently decided to use Midtown's pull list service. According to their website you will receive these comics at a 35% discount. How could I say no to that? I received my first invoice and as you might expect, there is no discount. I emailed them asking why I wasn't receiving the discount. They responded, telling me that I must have confused it with their previews service. I am not. I have screen shots that clearly show the names of the titles, a 35% discount, and add to pull list all on the same line. If that is not the case, then they shouldn't list them together. In addition, if you click on a specific title, it clearly states the cover price and then shows next to it the price customers will pay, and that price is disconnected 35%. This is incredibly misleading, verging on fraud. I will not be doing business with them again.

Tip for consumers:
Do not use their pull list service if you think you’ll be receiving any sort of discount. The site will say that you will, but it’s a lie. I consider this to be fraud.

They don't know how to package comics. First, they don't tape the comic bags (cost cutting?) so comics are free to move around. Then they put them in a paper bag stacked with bubble wrap around, except large amounts of space for the comics to slide around. They don't tape the stack together which anyone that sells comics knows you must do, smh. 80% of my last order was damaged. Their response-we will give you a 25% credit or send the books back on your cost. These people don't care. Why shop here when you can get better service at basically any other store? Do not recommend.

Tip for consumers:
Don't and if you do, use paypal so you MIGHT get a return.

I ordered a subscription to the new Dr, Strange ( March 2023) before the release date and after months I contacted midtown comics and was told issue # 2 would arrive. I asked why I wasn't getting issue # 1 and never got an answer. I asked for a refund and they gave me part of what I paid and then I had to ask for the remainder due me. I got the rest. Totally frustrating to deal with this company. Years earlier my subscriptions arrived without issues. I suggest you don't deal with them.

This company has a history of shipping damaged items and taking ZERO responsibility for it. I ordered back in 2019 (over $50.00 worth of books) and every single one was damaged. They took no responsibility for it. I recently tried to order from them again figuring maybe they were shipping better and lo and behold I was banned from using their service. There are plenty of small businesses that will work with you when it comes to the quality of their product and their customer service is above and beyond anything this "business" offers. Buyer beware if you purchase from Midtown Comics. They are in it strictly for the $$ and could care less about customer relations.

I subscribe to multiple comics. Delivery is wildly inconsistent. I moved to a different state, cancelled my orders in my previous state, and paid for new orders to my current state. Midtown is completely incapable of handling this, still utterly confused after 8 months. My new subs have never arrived. Apparently the old ones are still being sent to my previous address. They have overcharged me multiple times, trying to renew the cancelled subs and billing me multiple times for the new subs. I worked with customer service for 8 months to try to fix this. Today, they blamed it on USPS, even though THEY gave USPS the wrong address. Complete incompetence, horrible customer service, and billing practices that should get them shut down. I'm embarrassed for them.

One of the largest comic book online stores in the world and they don't know how to ship. My order came in a box (good start). Inside the box is some popcorn stuffing stuff, and then my books. In a paper bag. It was moving from NY to CA. All MODERN books with spine damage. We aren't talking about comics from 20 years ago. These were brand new. I should have seen the reviews. Maybe in store shopping would work great, but online is not where it is at. I will never spend another penny with them. I get better packaging from WhatNot. Shocked how popular this place is. And like others have said, they dont even stand behind their orders. I guess they like to have spine ticks on their modern comics...I do not. Actually, they probably dont even collect comics. They treat them like trash so they are most likely just a supplier shipping as quick as they can to collect as much money as they can.

Tip for consumers:
will spend my money else where.

I recently started purchasing through Midtown Comics thinking " hey, they're a huge mega-store with multiple locations all over NYC, they must be good, right?" Me, living in NJ, thought it would be a great place to continue my comic collection. I made several purchases right off the bat that were around $200, and then tried to start a Pull List of 25 comic series.

First problem, in one of my orders I put comics in my cart at one price and when I check out it charges me more. Customer service tells me "prices in cart are subject to change without notice" but doesn't tell me WHERE it says that. I look everywhere. It doesn't exist. Also, I complain about the fact that I placed the order through their app. They tell me that their app is a not related to them, not a subsidiary of them and therefore the two don't sink together. Go find where it says that? Somewhere in the deep find print on the website (not inside the app itself). So if you start something on the website, the app doesn't sync it and vice versa.

Secondly, I started a Pull List 2+ weeks ago with over 25 series. Nothing ever happens, I never get a notification of my books. I call them and they tell me I have to come in and sign and form and pay $20 fee. Fine, no problem. I go in the NEXT DAY to pay the fee and sign the form. Firstly, the girl behind the counter has no idea what I'm talking about, she's literally a lost puppy who looks at some guy behind the counter who then comes over, sighs, and asks what the problem is. Clearly he was flustered and busy, bouncing around like a chicken without a head. I tell him my problem, he tells me, "my timing was bad" because TODAY was the first day they were taking their PULL LISTS entirely online, therefore the form and the $20 in person fee were no longer needed. I said, "I just came from NEW JERSEY - is it possible when I called YESTERDAY someone could have told me this on the PHONE?"

He apologized and said he himself didnt find out until just that morning. THAT'S HOW WELL THEY KEEP THEY CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS INFORMED.

I go home and get back on the computer trying as quickly as possible to set up my PULL LIST so I don't miss out on any of the books I started the pull list with (which is already too late). I get someone on their online chat direct from the website, she seemed very helpful, and she walked me through the process of what to do. I did everything she told me to do, and she said she CHECKED it and it looked "good to go." Meaning, my PULL LIST looked perfectly set up and I did not have anything further to do. She informed me that as the books came out, I would be made aware via email and if I logged into the site - and that the card I had on file would simply pay for them. GREAT! I felt satisfied finally.

Today, I log in AGAIN just to be SURE that there were no hiccups and SURE ENOUGH my PULL LIST that was active yesterday after I spoke to her, has been INACTIVATED for what reason I do not know. Of course, it's after hours, so I just sent them emails about it, but I told them they had better figure out what the problem is because I do not want to miss out on key books I signed up for just because they dropped the ball on how their online pull list system was going to work.

I'm currently waiting on a response. In the meantime, I google "Midtown Comics Reviews" and I get taken to a couple of sites like this one where most of the people are extremely dissatisfied with their customer service and the quality of the books they received (as well as the time it takes to "process" the orders).

The overall prices seem reasonable to me, however - I thought it wrong that I was charged extra for comics that were in my cart at the time of my purchase for a much lower price. The rep informed me that the sale had been over for one day and I should have known that. That's not how this works. If you don't have ANYTHING on your site that says the cart could change at any time, then your store should HONOR the prices in the cart. AM I WRONG? Any customer-service oriented company would honor that, especially for a measly $4. After over 4 hours of emails back and forth, the rep finally tells me "This will never happen again, but once your order is in and you come pick it up, reply to this email and I'll credit your account $4." Instead of saying, "I'm sorry for the confusion, we really should have that information put up somewhere, and you're right if there's a glitch in the cart and the price is $1.81 right as you check out then it should remain so. It shouldn't CHANGE to $4.04 AFTER the payment is sent through."

These are the types of people we're dealing with here. If they don't fix my pull list - I'm going to extremely angry, more so than I am now. It's a shame they're the "biggest game in town" and they feed off of that, but if we all start boycotting them, I'm sure they'll fix their problems REAL QUICK.

I found a few other places that are much better, one of which is called Hanahan Comics, which I've purchased from through eBay. They're good, I don't know what made me go with Midtown - I guess I was optimistic that I could just go there and pick my comics up rather than pay shipping costs. Speaking of shipping costs, Midtown Comics shipping costs (especially on their pre-orders) are INSANELY high. They try to fool you by giving you a low price off the cover price of the pre-orders, but then the MINIMUM shipping on any size order is $20. Ridiculous. They make it up by robbing you in the shipping.

I am so sickened to death by this experience.

I places preview orders sent to my address overseas over several years, but Midtown kept messing them up. I carefully ordered no more than 17 issues per biweekly package, because it's hard to get more than that in an international priority flat-rate envelope, but Midtown kept trying to send three or four weeks worth of comics at a time and then canceling my order because it wouldn't fit.

I ended up switching to MyComicShop.com, which has great customer service, and I ordered the issues that Midtown failed to send me from MyComicShop. Then I stopped ordering from Midtown.

And that's when my problems with Midtown REALLY started.

Two months after I stopped ordering anything from Midtown, they started sending me issues from old previews--preview orders that were placed over three months earlier--one at a time and charging me $37 for shipping PER ISSUE valued at under $4. That's insane.

I wrote to them begging them to close my account so this wouldn't happen again, but they refused, saying I have to cancel preview items when their app has no way to do that!

Midtown's customer service is beyond atrocious. Do yourself a favor and choose MyComicShop instead.

I paid $9.99 for UPS GROUND. When I got confirmation e-mail it said USPS PRIOMAIL. I immediately e-mailed saying I didn't pay for USPS Priority and asked if they could fix it, yet next day they shipped out with USPS PRIORITY. So unprofessional and ripped me off my money for a mail carrier that I didn't pay for.

I had a subscription to Amazing Spider-Man, I wrote to the subscription service managed by Midtown Comics because I didn't receive the number 17.
Of course, to know that the number 17 would not arrive I had to first receive the 18, this took three months, because I'm an international customer.
Midtown Comics answered was that after ten weeks they do not accept complaints.
I replied that I absolutely do not agree with their policy because to know that I do not receive a number, I must first receive the next one and if this takes more than ten weeks, the fault is not mine.
I also wrote that at this point, I would have cancelled the automatic renewal and at the end of the subscription, I would not have renewed again.
They replied with a formal email, without any wish to solve the problem and even worse, they cancelled my subscription immediately without I have asked for it.
After about ten years of subscription, I have been treated this way; I am very disappointed with the Marvel subscription system managed by Midtown Comics. After over forty years of reading Marvel comics, I will stop buying any of your products. I prefer the memory of the genuine Marvel of the past.
