What reviewers want you to know

Positive highlights

  • Great product and concept but the 2 speed limits are not enough to make it accurate.
  • I called customer service and the guy was awesome.

Critical highlights

  • Unfortunately, most of the posted speed limits in the MOTOsafety database near our home are off by 10-15 MPH.
  • Also careful, Barclay's credit card let them continue charging an expired credit card.

“Best Product!”

I use this to track my college aged child. It gives me such a piece of mind knowing where he is. It even gives you driving reports of speed, brakes applied etc. They have awesome customer service. I even called them on a Saturday am and they stayed on the phone with me until problem was solved. I've had this product for a year and only had one problem which they solved when I called. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT

“Stopped working for 3 months and could not get a refund”

My teen driver was just starting to drive and I thought this would be a great app to track her driving while we were not in the car. However, a few months into the service, the service stopped working and showed "no network connectivity " 90% of the time. We sent a request to trouble shoot but ended up getting runaround and after several weeks of cancellation request, finally got a call from a supervisor who advised they could only refund one month. The device also started beeping constantly, which made it annoying the my teen driver, along with being a distraction. Poor product design? As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of having a good product and also great customer support. There was neither in this case and sadly I am a disappointed customer who cannot refer them to others.

The tracker was anywhere from 32 min to 1 hour 30 min lag time so at 60mph it could be off by 30 miles. Driver actions like hard break or rapid accelerating could not be attended to in the appropriate time. The worse thing. NO RETURN POLICY ON THE DEVICE.

This device has allowed my teenage son to focus with discipline, on his driving techniques and bad habits. I love receiving daily reports and we discuss how he can improve driving safely. Since installing the device, he has received a grade of A, and an occasional B daily. The B grade is usually for braking alerts. I highly recommend the device to anyone wishing to improve their driving performance.

They do not tell you that specific cellular networks must be in your area. After you get the item and it will not work, they refuse to give you a refund. Their advice is simply "Sell it on Ebay. It is yours".

Tip for consumers:
Make sure you have Verizon where you live!

We have been using this device for two years (2019). So far I have had to replace it once when it stopped working. We are having problems again with the device just stopping and IT is telling me that that can happen when it is in a bad area, but this bad area lasted 24 hours and again 7-8 hours while in transit from Florida to New Orleans. Clearly, something is wrong. I asked if we could switch out the unit as I suspect it is going bad and was told yes but they wanted $80 to insure I sent the old one back. I was taken back considering we have been with them paying all this time with no problems and they did not ask this of us the first time. I am done and looking for another service provider. For $80 I can try someone else out.

Tip for consumers:
It's ok. Until it's not.

Once they get your credit card, they keep charging and make it impossible to cancel. Just check the website out and search how to cancel before you buy. Nothing nowhere!

You know the businesses that make it really tough to cancel and offer no refund or proration or even to let you use the month you just paid for after you've cancelled as a way to manipulate you into forgetting and paying for another month. Also careful, Barclay's credit card let them continue charging an expired credit card. To get to the cancellation desk, you need to be transferred 3 times at least.

My father in law got lost driving, 50 miles away, after we moved to a new home. We activated an older MotoSafety module and told him how we were tracking him. He would call and ask where he was and we knew when he left the Geo-fenced area. Ultimately he said he wasn't renewing his drivers license, as he realized he shouldn't be driving. We were so grateful. Thank you MotoSafety.

Tip for consumers:
Setup your account right. Geofence, Updates and speed notifications keep you posted where your young or old drivers are.

This company charge you extra month even if you call and canceled their service. I call about 7 to 10 days before the new month began to stop the service and they still charge me the following month. I called them and report that they charge me and need it a refund and they said that they did not have any notes about me canceling, i do not write reviews but this time this issue deserves to be known by othere so they can be carefull with this company.

We installed this on our 17yo daughter's new (to her) car. The GPS function works great. It reports position every 60 seconds when the car is on, and every 60 minutes when it is off. So far, no issues with battery life based on normal driving.

We were primarily interested in MOTOsafety for the Daily Report Card to monitor her safety and how her driving improves. Unfortunately, most of the posted speed limits in the MOTOsafety database near our home are off by 10-15 MPH. We have the speeding threshold set to +5 MPH, meaning that she gets lots of false speeding alerts, impacting the overall grade she gets in the daily report card, and making it useless for the purpose they advertise -- teen driving safety.

MOTOsafety allows you to "update posted speed limits" on their website by selecting two endpoints on a road and manually setting the speed limit between those two points. It also stores these updates for reference. So far, none of the speed limit updates we've created have had any impact at all. While the website correctly shows where we have updated the speed limits, those updates have not had any impact on MOTOsafety's speeding alerts.

For example, the main road off our neighborhood has a posted limit of 50 MPH. MOTOsafety says it is 40 MPH. With the speed alert limit set to +5 MPH, she would get speeding alerts all up and down the main road for traveling over 45 MPH. So we went in and set the speed limit for the entire road to 50 MPH as it is posted, but she still gets speeding alerts for exceeding 45 MPH. None of the speed limit updates we've created have reduced the false speeding alerts. We contacted MOTOsafety customer service about this issue and have yet to receive a response (more than 2 weeks later).

We also contacted MOTOsafety with a general question about the "harsh braking" and "rapid acceleration" alerts. It's unclear whether these alerts are checked only every 60 seconds like the GPS positioning is, or whether it continuously monitors braking and acceleration. In this case, MOTOsafety customer service responded within 24 hours, but provided a stock answer that did not at all address the question. It only stated that there were two types of speeding alerts, "speeding and high speed", and did not mention how often those alerts were checked. If acceleration and braking are only checked 1x every 60 seconds, then it would be easy for a hard braking situation to go unreported in the 60 seconds between checks.

The lack of timely responses from customer service, stock answers that don't address the question, and issues with invalid speed limits that cannot be corrected make this product useless for monitoring teen safety while driving. It's a simple GPS position tracker that is pretending to be something more.
