“Best Tea I've Ever Had”

I got 6 teas and all of them were AMAZING! So impressed with the quality and love that it's loose leaf, so less waste and packaging.

“Shipping delays, but no delay in taking payment!”

Melanie C.
1/30/23

Ever since they announced an update to a live inventory system, the delays have gotten worse than usual. When they say "16-21 days" to ship, you can bet it will be longer. Nevertheless, they charge your card immediately. This doesn't seem to be a good way to do business--one would never accept sending a product first then being paid 16-21 days later, so why is the reverse ok? I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Reputable companies stand behind their products. Mountain Rose Herbs is not one of them. Bought one of their oils which didn't smell ANYTHING like it's supposed to, they even agreed, but to get my money back, I had to send it back at my own expense. I don't trust this company so rather than being stuck with their store credit, I chose to lose a third of what I paid on return shipping. Stay away.

Updated in response to merchant's reply.
Dill has its own specific, distinct, prevalent scent so no, it's not a personal preference. Your dill oil had an indiscernible smell that not any of us could guess what it was. Unfortunately, my husband bought the other products as gifts or we would have returned them as well.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that the dill seed essential oil you ordered did not smell the way you had anticipated. We take all matters of quality very seriously, and as such, we did open a quality control investigation on the specific lot of essential oil that you received. The investigation performed by our aromatherapy experts revealed that the oil was within our specifications and that this was a matter of personal preference. As such, we offered a courtesy store credit or the option to return the product for a refund.

We are, again, sorry that you didn't enjoy this oil, but we hope you are enjoying the other organic ingredients you did receive from us. Please let us know if you have any other questions or if we can assist with anything else, we're always happy to help.

Hey Melanie, thank you for reaching out to us here as well as on our social media channels.

Just to reiterate what we shared there, we know that these temporary delays are not ideal, and we are doing our best to be as transparent as possible so that our customers can decide whether or not they would like to wait this time around. Our average ship time is currently 16-20 days, which is the timeframe estimate provided during checkout. We're so sorry if this information was missed.

As soon as you informed us that you wished to have a refund, we promptly took care of that for you. If there is any other way that we may be able to assist you in a solution-oriented way, we would be happy to work with you.

Otherwise, we wish you the best in your herbal journey, no matter where you choose to practice it.

Be aware they don't post expiration date on any products at all. I find out the spice powder that were 4 years old after I insist them sending me analysis report. The rest of products that not shown expired all being put in a reusable bags that anyone can open and close. Then the analysis report and bag number has no meaning since the bags are not even sealed. When I contact them for this issue and ask for free return, they lied to me that their return department is not in office and want me to wait, and threatened me to ban my account if I file claim with PayPal. Such a shady company, avoid them!

Thank you for reaching out again, Jessica. We are sorry that our Claims & Returns Department was short-staffed when you submitted your initial inquiry. We do offer Certificates of Analysis for any product at any time. Requests for Certificates of Analysis can be requested before or after any purchase and there is no special requirement to get a hold of this information. We provide this openly. As was mentioned in our emails, chats, and phone calls, we do offer a 30-day return policy if you are, for any reason, dissatisfied with your purchase. This is the proper way for your order to be refunded. Circumnavigating this process with a chargeback goes against our return policy and can result in an account closure. We hope this helps to explain this situation a bit more. We're sorry again that you did not enjoy your experience with us and we wish you well on your herbal journey, no matter where you choose to practice it. ~Janelle

It took them NINE days after placing my order before they packaged and shipped it (still haven't received a projected delivery date). Wish I'd read reviews before ordering. I was hoping to get my herbs (which I need for medicinal purposes) in some sort of reasonable timeline. This aint that.

They are extremely slow to ship (upwards of THREE WEEKS), their prices are very high comparatively, and they do not take care of their customers. I have been a long time customer of RMH, but since it was taken over by new owners, it's gone downhill drastically. Save yourself a headache and order elsewhere.

Hey Jennifer,

We completely understand that our current shipping times are not ideal. As you saw from our emails and the estimated shipping time provided when placing your order, we did get very behind as a result of a new software implementation. The good news is that our shipping times are improving and we have fixed the issues that caused the majority of these delays. These issues are temporary.

We also apologize for any confusion regarding the ownership of Mountain Rose Herbs. The current owner has been the owner since 2001. We are not under new ownership.

Lastly, it can be a security concern to publish your tracking information publicly so we would highly suggest that you remove your image or at least re-crop it to include the point you are trying to make with the order and shipped dates without the tracking details.

Thank you again for taking the time to leave your feedback. We wish you the best along your herbal journey, no matter where you choose to practice it. ~Jessicka

The products seem to be decent… WHEN you get them! I placed an order on January 3, and today it's February 2, and I still have not received them. I had custom-made item from China in 2.5 weeks. Custom-made! And MRH takes more than a month to package something they haven't made? They keep saying it has to do with "an upgrade to their system". Good grief people, hire some more people and get them out in the warehouse, pulling stock and boxing it up! How hard is that? Your excuses have been going on for too long, and I'm suspecting there a financial issues with the company or something else going on. That will likely be my last order with MRH.

Tip for consumers:
If you really don’t care how long it takes to receive your order, they do have good products.

Hey Deebs, thank you for reaching out. While we never enjoy hearing customer frustrations, they do help us to improve our level of service, so thank you.

We completely understand that our current shipping times are not ideal and we promise our team is working incredibly hard to get caught up from this temporary issue. I worked for them for over 3 years, so I had an opportunity to look at them from the inside. And here is what I can tell:
1. Most products are more or less decent, however the people who clean, cut, package, etc. those products are often unprofessional and with low level of integrity (especially at their Mill), so when you buy their herbs and spices, do keep in mind that they might have been touched by someone not wearing gloves, or they might have been picked up from a dirty floor and put into bags, etc.
2. They did lay off 20% of employees on March 30. The official version is that this was done because of the pandemic, but they laid off some people who worked from home at that time, so pandemic is just a cover. Actually they started firing people back in February, because it turned out that their poor management led the company to a financial crisis, and in January they were very close to be unable to pay salaries to everyone.
3. The way they treat their employees is just incredibly mean. For example, the way they handled the lay off was the following: one day, while you are working, they suddenly block your access to your account, call you in 15 minutes, and tell you to leave, like you are some sort of criminal. Or they just put your things in a box, in the evening when you left work, and in the morning you come and find an empty desk. Here is what you get for all the years of hard work! The higher management protects those whom they consider their friends, even if they are absolutely unprofessional and dishonest. So, they kept all of their friends and got rid of everyone else.

So, you can, of course, continue buying their products, but remember that their motto "people, plants, and planet over profit" is not true, because what they care about is their own profit. They are very good though in creating an illusion of them caring about their employees and customers. That is one thing they do well - pretending.

Some culinary and medicinal tea herbs I ordered were not fresh and of low potency, lacking the essential oils, eg., lemongrass, fennel, peppermint, so obviously of poor quality. I have also had a couple herb orders in the distant past that had a mildew smell, though maybe they are more careful now, I do not know since I don't order from them anymore. The main reason I don't order from them is their prices are comparatively higher than other organic herb companies and they do not test every lot for heavy metals which I think is vital especially with issues of known contamination becoming more common as herbs are increasingly sourced from all over the world. Organic is no guarantee that heavy metals my be naturally occuirring in the soil in certain regions, this is well documented for lead, cadmium, and arsenic. Interestingly, I live near the city where MRH's is located and local organic/whole food stores do not stock in their bulk sections MRH products and instead source from further across the country as they listed the supplier on the bulk herb bin. That was very telling and confirmatory to me of the poor quality of MRH's if based on values of supporting buy local they would not even stock from this company.

Hey Brik, we're so sorry to hear that you have not been 100% satisfied with your previous purchases from us. We always want our customers to love what they receive from us and have very thorough procedures in place for when customers do not. Have you reached out to our Claims and Returns Department about this? If not, that is highly recommended. All matters of quality we receive are reviewed and a quality control investigation is conducted to ensure the products you are inquiring about do in fact meet our specifications. We also have a 30-day return policy if these items do not meet your expectations or you do not wish to have a quality control investigation conducted on these items.

As for our testing procedures, we do test products that are at risk for heavy metal contamination. The types of testing we do is herb (and farm) specific. We are very open about our testing and provide Certificates of Analysis for all of our botanical offerings. You can request these before or after a purchase by contacting support@mountainroseherbs.com

As for local stores carrying our offerings, many local Eugene stores do carry our botanicals, and often those found in bulk bins are not labeled as such. We are in the process of revamping our bin labels which will hopefully help with better visibility. In addition to this, we are not currently working with distributors, which is often a requirement for being in medium to large grocery stores. Instead, we work directly with our "mom and pop" local stores and are looking to expand in the future.

We hope this information has been helpful and has offered some helpful solutions. Please let us know if we can help with anything else. ~Jess

If you place an order with this company, they often won't ship it out until a week or more. And their shipping fees are outrageous.

Also, if they're out of stock for an item, they won't tell you--they will just ship your order and then tell you to reorder the missing item.

Many of their herbs are of poor quality, and they are also deceptive about some of their products. For instance, their "Ceylon" cinnamon powder is not genuine--it's cassia cinnamon instead (which is a lot cheaper). That's called "fraud."

I read an account by an employee who said that lots of their employees smoke pot and vape, and no doubt the smells and residues end up in their herbs. Apparently they drop stuff on the floor and put it back in the vats too.

Please stay away from this awful place.

I know many people have commented on this and that the business states they have the slowest shipping time but it's really just unnecessary. There are so many other small businesses that do shipping quickly, efficiently, and at a better price. I don't know what the hold up is but I regret every time I order from MRH. If I want to get a replacement on my tea I love to drink, I would need to order it 3-months in advance before my tea goes out to get it on time. So here I am again awaiting my order and it seems like it might takes 3 weeks. How is this even possible? I've never engaged with another business that had such poor shipping methods. Looks like I need to find a new supplier for my special tea. One that gives it to me in a time that I can actually drink the tea. It's just really poor business practices and in this day and age, completely unacceptable.

I have been buying herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs and spices for about a year and a half and they have been wonderful about fulfilling orders, and the quality and freshness of the herbs and the spices.
One time I had a problem with a package that got moisture in the box and the herbs were damaged, their customer service and quality people were on top of things and attended to the issue right away.
I haven't bought any of the oils or teas, but maybe in the future.

They have lots of products, sometimes it's easier to get a printed catalogue.

My husband and I have been very pleased with all of the products from Mountain Rose. The 'Skin Oil' has been especially great for my easily bruised skin on my aging (67 year old) arms. I apply to the reddened area and within 2 days the odd bruise that i had no idea how it got there is gone! The Lavender aromatherapy essential oil is the best i have ever used. I apply at night on my arthritic shoulders (with their carrier oil) and I have a peaceful and less painful night sleep. Every product we have used has been excellent.
But I wish their shipping was a bit faster.

All of their herbs have been fresh and not stale or old. Their shipping is a little slow so that sometimes it takes a little while go get the product. It is worth the extra weight because of the quality of the product.
