“Best od Care with Dr. Trout at Angell Medical Center”

Sandra Z.
2/15/23

Our dog, CJ, has been a previous patient of Dr Trout with two surgeries in the past, at age 1 and 1.5 years. CJ developed an issue with both shoulders, most likely from jumping in and out of our SUV onto pavement. Dr Trout was able to see CJ sooner then the scheduling staff, and CJ had been limping for three months and needed to be evaluated. CJ was seen today, Monday, February 133,2023, and both Dr Trout and Jessica, his assistant are outstanding! The entire staff at Angell from the front desk greeting us, to Dr Trout calling to update us twice on CJ, along with follow up plans, gives us a feeling of comfort. We are hoping for a positive outcome with ultrasound treatment and time will tell, and we know CJ is getting the best of care at Angell with Dr. Trout and his team! What I appreciated most about Angell is the following: -the knowledge and expertise of Dr. Trout and Jessica, his assistant gives us full confidence. -the follow up instructions are clear. -every interaction at Angell is very positive and CJ is actually excited to be there too! -the entire center is impeccably clean. When our daughter thought she wanted to be a vet, she saw the best of care with our first dog, Charlie, and saw the commitment of everyone who works there. We have always had a positive experience at Angell, and highly recommend Dr. Trout and his team for any orthopedic situation. Thank you for another positive experience with CJ at Angell today! Our sincere thanks!

The team at Angell cares about one thing from the moment you walk in the door through the time your pet passes and that is cold hard cash. They are grossly negligent, careless, and uncoordinated which results in harm to your animal both in the form of chronic illness as well as eventual death, usually at a profit for them.

After 13 long wonderful years we took our dog with an illness and as I ask for care I was told that only after paying a substantial amount that only our animal would receive first aid as he was in his last seconds with pain and only after paying then some treatment came. We lost him that's day a week ago and I think that Angell memorial hospital, should have a better care plan. Because what if I didn't have the $225 er fee then what would have happened…not right( help service and care rightfully for all in need the same way!

Yet after waiting TWO HOURS for my FIV cat with a potential liver problem, (triaged by an uninterested receptionist) and being pushed aside by others coming in over well over an hour AFTER US I left at 5:15 AM. I will be contacting the AG's office when I get out of work. A vet, nurse or vet tech never even came to ask me one question. I don't appreciated being called hun either. I an ma'am. If you love your pet, do not intrust it's care to someone that collects money as soon as you walk through the door and without even a glance in your pet's direction.

My dog needs to do a surgery, they know you are desperate, they charged you $2,700 for a CT Scan. No one got back to you for a week. You called and compliant to the Management level, end up the same person called you back telling you it's normal that the CT Scan report wouldn't come out until a week. It was a horrible place.

I went to the MSPCA yesterday to find a cat to replace the one I lost last week (she passed away at 19 years of age and had a good life. I am glad I went on the wrong day because the showroom was closed. I jsut ran into this website and i am glad to have found someone who shares my views about the MSPCA. I honestly thnk they are predatory crooks cahsing in on people's love and devotion for their animals. One thing that caught my eye is the many cash registers they have in the lobby - nice and shiny. I tried to adopt a cat there many years ago, but i was discouraged when the bill which kept getting higher and higher unitl it became unaffordable for me. A friend of mine went there about 2 years ago and adopted 2
Poodles for total bill of 316.00 dollars. My point is, you are going in there to save a pet that someone else has abandoned/discared. You are committing yourself to take care of this animal and take it off their hands. Why do you have to pay so much for them? I just so an article about the amount of money the executive and staff make at the MSPCA.- IT IS ASTONISING/ People need to take a good look at this agency, they are a FOR-PROFIT organization and most of us fail to see that. OPEN YOUR EYES!

Workflows need to be improved especially as it relates to medications. The lack of organization, response, and communication puts pets at risk especially when it is a medication that the animal really needs. It shouldn't take three days and a lot of follow up to get my dogs meds.
Also, they charge way way too much for everthing.

MSPCA Angell Memorial Animal Hospital does not care about your animal's condition, only finances. They refuse to treat animals unless you put down a substantial down payment. I've had several experiences with this facility and have not been pleased. One of my animals got hit by a car and before they did anything we were asked to see a financial counselor. The doctor came out and said my animal needed emergency surgery. I asked the doctor what are my animals chances and they said they didn't know. I told her to go back to talk to the surgeon to find out what were my animal's chances of recovery and what type of recovery and rehab is expected.
Well, the doctor went back to the exam room and then came back with the news that it was 50/50 survival and recovery and rehab extensive. So natural we decided it was in my animal's best interest to euthanasia him.
My point is if I had not asked those questions I would have spent thousands of dollars and my animal might have had a miserable and painful life.
The surgeon should have met us and told us what was going on so we could make a rational decision. Instead we were prompted to talk to a financial counselor.
I could add other times that I've spent thousands of dollars for Angell Memorial to run all types of useless test in order to train residents.

After 25 years of prior experience with Dr. Brum at Angell Memorial, I returned to Boston after 17 years in NY and requested an appt, with Dr. Brum for my 3 dogs -- one of which is 15 yrs. Old and has kideney disease. First they made up a fictious $70 bill -- 18 YRS. OLD THAT THEY NEVER MENTIONED IN ALL THAT TIME, that they said I had to pay if I wanted an appt. A bill for one of my dogs, I got in NY who HAD NEVER BEEN TO ANGELL MEMORIAL OR BOSTON -- ALSO THEY COULD NOT SUBSTANTIATE WITH AN INVOICE OR ANY PROOF OF MEDICAL SERVICE. Although I disagreed with the bill, I paid to get an appointment.

When I told the I wanted only Dr. Brum as I had read the reviews and was concerned about other drs. An especially the intern they suggested, following is the email I received. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS AN AGENCY THAT IS SUPPOSED TO CARE FOR AND ABOUT ANIMALS AND INVENTED A BILL FROM GOD KNOWS WHERE THAT I PAID TO GET AN APPT. READ THIS MEMO AND THE REVIEWS BELOW AND SAVE YOUR BELOVED PET AND GO ELSEWHERE:

To me

Dear Donna,.

My name is Matt O'Neill and I'm the Director of Client Services here at Angell Animal Medical Center. I hope that it's okay that I'm reaching out to you via email today. A member of Angell's Internal Medicine staff touched base with me regarding your plans to have Hannah seen by our Dr. Brum and thought that I should be aware that you were planning to come in. Having read now through the record of your recent and historic exchanges with our staff, I'm glad that they did. I have to be frank, my experience has taught me that there are times when a client and a facility are just not a good fit and, in those times, a new start with another hospital is best for all involved. Taking into account how things played out with your visits to Angell back when Hannah was a puppy and then more recently as our staff attempted to collect your historic balance, I believe that to be the case in this instance.

Even though I can recognize that much of that history is long behind us, I still do not feel that it is in anyone's best interests for you to pursue ongoing care for your pets at Angell Boston (…or any Angell affiliate). Given that your prior Angell experience resulted in that (albeit small) balance going unpaid and recent interactions regarding that balance have been strained, it does not feel like any ongoing relationship between you and our hospitals is set up very well for success. I can appreciate that our documentation may not paint a complete picture of how those historic events may have unfolded on your end. That said, I do think that it is indisputably evident that your faith and confidence in Angell's ability to meet your needs have been compromised. It's clear from your recent interactions with us that, while your faith in Dr. Brum cannot be questioned, your faith in the rest of our hospital (Emergency service, Accounting staff, etc.) pales in comparison. We at Angell know how important it is, when entrusting us with the care of a beloved pet, that you feel assured that you are putting them in the very best hands. Once that faith has been questioned, it becomes very difficult to repair and future interactions can become strained. With client communication playing such an essential role in patient care, we do not feel comfortable with the prospect of our trying to provide care to a client where effective communication is not ensured.

Simply put, I do not feel that – given the history here – we would be able to have a successful client relationship with you. As such, I am writing today to ask that you refrain from booking future appointments with any Angell facility. We hope that you will see this step as one that is taken with everyone's best interests in mind. I think we can all agree that making sure that Hannah's needs are met is our main goal. I am hopeful and confident that one of the other options for pet care in the area will be able to meet all of your veterinary needs.

Yours Sincerely,

Matt

WATCH OUT for this 'organization' people! They cry, beg and plead that they are in dire need of money yet rape pet parents that are trying to get care for their animals. For instance, a 10 minute visit to one vet cost $140 with NO labs, test or diagnostics... JUST A "REFERRAL." There was only an observation and repeat of what the problem was. Another example is >5 minute blood pressures done by a vet tech that cost $50! When the veterinarian was confronted with this astronomical charge she validated it with "equipment and special training." In fact, their Doppler was antiquated and would not be permitted in a human hospital and all the tech does is inflate a blood pressure cuff and listen for the blood return. When the vet was told this she stated "you know this because you are a medical professional... the general public doesn't know this." They are predators of kind people in my opinion that put profits above all else. They also have a poor rating on charitynavigator dot org.

How can this org get away with ruining decent honorable pet owners repurations by representing anonymous spite complaints with no discosure of the nature of the complatin? And it's not anonymous on their end as they publicly visit our vets offices in front of all employees and other pet owners. I am devastated by this and as a sr. My health has suffered dramatically. They do not take this seriously. These complaints deserve a fair treatment. And, the anonymous complaint source has a choice to disclose who they are. What does that tell you. I am a sr woman with littel dog I loved more than life and was accused of animal cruelty when my dog had DM, which is a non painful disease. They have ruined my failth and hurt me while I am already in grief. SHAME ON YOU! BULLIES!@! Remember karma And shame on the hospice serice I beieve caused all this pain and suffering to me, I have vets that witnessed my dog who was not in pain when they saw him. I treated my dog with thousands of dollars of meds and care, and I am investigated AFTER my sweet guy is gone. GOd remembers bad people and sick power mongers.
