“DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM!”

Jonathan F.
8/15/22

We ordered a twin bunk bed. The design of the bed is decent, but the quality of the wood received was horrible! They used the lowest quality wood, then supposedly planed it but no sanding was done like they said it would. I've made a bed from scratch out of big box store lumber and mine puts this bed to shame. For those of you needing instructions, this came with none and there is minimal info on the website. I paid nearly 1k for this bed and expected a much nicer finished wood than received. I will be returning this immediately!

Ordered almost 2 months ago and still not receiving all items. Unprofessional manner on inquiries since the order was late. The front lady seems nice at first but this might be a fake business run by a dishonest family. Don't support this "fake" small business they are getting products from far east for sure.

This site advertises "in stock" merchandise that leaves the warehouse in "24 hours" from their business which the site declares to be "open and shipping on time". When I chatted with a sales rep through the site, they stated that they actually take 5-6 weeks to make the items being sold, and that it would take another 1-2 weeks after that to ship them out. They were unable to point to any information on their site that explained this long delay. A college student ordering a loft bed today would not receive it for about 7 weeks, despite the "leave the warehouse in 24 hours" message in the loft bed's detail page on the site.

Tip for consumers:
This business also has a website under the nationalfurnishing.com url.

Overall, my experience with www.nationalhomestore.com was poor enough to definitely not recommend this place to anyone - ever. I was looking for a twin XL bunk bed and they had custom-made units that "looked" good. My advice on these made-from-lumber products is: AVOID THEM. They are clunky and rarely will meet your expectations. Why? The reason builder-grade lumber is being used is it is cheaper than using furniture-grade wood like, poplar, maple, walnut, even finish-grade plywood. No kidding! That isn't necessarily a bad thing *IF* all of the pieces are run through a planer to achieve any semblance of an edge or finish. This place didn't do that.

Shipping:
The bed arrived with significant damage. Deep gouges, scrapes, impact marks, chunks of wood missing, punctures, and dents; this is not the fault of UPS. They wrapped the bed in a single layer of cardboard with all of the wood pieces completely loose; the only thing holding them in place was the flimsy "box". There should have been high-density cardboard angle pieces used throughout and several layers of cardboard used to provide adequate protection, especially when the main box weighed well over 100lbs and was travelling via UPS ground.

Quality:
Upon inspecting the unit I discovered that the fit and finish was also very low-quality and low-grade. The "walnut" finish had the appearance of a spray tan; walnut should be very dark brown. All of the pieces did not look like they had gone through a planer. In fact, I don't think anything was even sanded.

Production and order tracking:
There was no way to ascertain where my order was in the production queue via the website. I had to contact the Help Desk via Live Chat who then contacted the warehouse. I know this is a job shop but any production facility knows how long it takes to manufacture the products it sells regardless of options, finishes, etc.

Lastly, after contacting NHS about returning the bunk bed they had the audacity to demand that I repack the bed better than they did so it would not arrive with even more damage - Seriously?!? Each encounter reinforced my opinion this is not a company to do business with. Poor quality - Antiquated internet presence - Hapless customer service experience - Inept manufacturing/shipping personnel.

The only upside to dealing with them is knowing that I won't ever have to again.

Tip for consumers:
They sell crude furniture. If that is want you want, then you're looking at the right website.

My wife ordered a loft bed for my daughter for Christmas. They did say there was a wait time. So we new it wouldn't make it for Christmas. It arrived 2 months later than we were told. It also didnt come with the stairs, loft bed no stairs.
My wife assembled. I went up to see progress. The bed was flimsy. We didnt allow her to sleep in her bed until we added more support.
My wife ordered the bed unfinished, to save on cost. Being it cost almost $1000. 00.
I never would have expected that unfinished. The stamp from lumber bundle was still on 2x4.
The top 2x4s were pre drilled, so all that was needed was to put screws in. The top board is 2x4 connected to 2x6 for the support boards. They only pre drilled 2 holes at the end of the 2x4, which made it very unstable, actually split the 2x4 at the pre drilled spots making even more unstable.
About a month later the stairs arrived. Being it was a heavy box and went up stairs we had our daughter ( 10 years old) carry the boards upstairs individually. My wife said these are the wrong stairs.
So she called. They told her, you selected them stairs. My wife explained, she called to place order. So actually the operator selected the wrong stairs.
After time had passed and getting know where with Nationalhomestore she asked me to assemble them.
Very first step was take the longest board and connect to existing bed. The board was too short.
Then i called. Guy on other end was an $#*!. He said send pics, that he will walk me through it. So i emailed him the pics. That was weeks ago. I havent heard a word from them.Ive even sent another email to be sure they received it. I got message saying very busy after long holiday weekend.
Come on, we all had a long weekend, that was 2 weeks ago. They are quick to sell you something, slow to get your merchandise, quick to take your funds, then if problem, you never hear from them.
Stay away from this company.
