“Network Solutions improving, but inconsistent”

The last few support calls to NS were much better than a few years ago, yet there still is a wide variance in the knowledge & customer service quality from one rep to the next. Hang up and call back if your rep seems to be leading you down a wrong path.

Networksolutions is so poor. About zero customer support but extraordinary high fees. Totally ridicilous. They charge about 3 - 5 times what other regsitrars take while their support is basically none existent. They are only good in making up funny fees and keeping you at long by not responding to inquiries. Avoid by any means

They just tried to extort me for $1250. They wouldn't let me renew the domains and now require "re-registration" period. Google "network solutions scam" and you'll see many stories. Its a horrible company and clearly a scam, stay away.

I had been a client of Network Solutions for more than 23 years. They were not hosting my website (thank God!) but my domain name was registered with them. The problem was that the company that had originally registered the domain with them in my name was not around anymore. They had put my name as part of the tech team, but not as primary contact. Nonetheless, I was still the owner of the domain name and I was the person paying the bills.
Recently, because I realized their registration fees were actually much higher than other companies (seriously, how could they possibly justify that?), I was thinking of transferring my domain name to another company. When I went to turn off the automatic payment renewal in my account, I realized that, EVEN AS THE PAYING OWNER OF THE DOMAIN NAME, I COULD NOT CONTROL THAT OPTION, AND I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL ON MY OWN DOMAIN NAME.I contacted them. They explained that I had to be the primary contact in order to do that, and that I had to fill a form and provide specific documents to transfer the primary contact from the former company to my name. I then explained that the former company didn't exist anymore and I was the only person handling everything, therefore, no one would be able to provide signatures or documents on behalf of the other company.
OMG. It was like opening a can of worms. I spent the past SEVERAL MONTHS being bounced from office to office, explaining my situation again and again, exchanging email after email, being told different stories, that the issue was simple and almost resolved, then it was not, then that the docs I sent were not the right ones, then that I needed to get some of them notarized which I did all this to finally have them tell me that the documents were missing the "clause of indemnisation" which I had no idea what it was.
All this to simply transfer a name, even as my account CLEARLY SHOWED THAT I WAS THE OWNER AND THE FINANCIAL SOURCE OF THE DOMAIN NAME.
After all this time and money wasted for absolutely no result, I was so frustrated with these guys that I had enough. I could see this game was going nowhere.
I had to ABANDON MY DOMAIN NAME. After 23 years. I replaced it with another one, registered with another company. Network Solutions bureaucracy is absolutely APPALLING, and their fees are absurd. Talking to these guys, day after day, was like talking to robots, who, as polite as they are, are just cogs in a big machine that is simply incapable of handling simple issues. This company is from the past, seriously. I will never, ever do business with them again.

I've had my domain, email and hosting with NetworkSolutions for many years. My hosting presence has been minimal - just a one-pager with my resume and contact info. I use NetSol primarily for the domain and email.
I've had very few problems of any kind with them in terms of performance. Everything just works. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to call them with technical problems, and they've generally been able to correct any problem promptly. From that aspect I've been very happy with them.
I did have one bad experience with support shortly after web.com bought them. I was clearly speaking to an outsourced team in another part of the world. In addition to the language barrier, their knowledge was lacking and their attitude was not good.
Earlier today I read many horror story reviews about how they've changed since being bought by Web.com, and it made me very nervous. But when I called to renew my service, I got the same quality, all-American support team I usually get. Perhaps the outsourcing occurs only during overnight hours (for American time zones). You may want to try reaching them during Eastern Time zone hours of 8am-10pm.

I recently discovered I'm way overpaying for domain registration, and I may switch to another registrar soon. However, sometimes it's worth the extra $ for the peace of mind and stability I've had with them. I don't want to invite trouble...

UPDATE: I spoke with customer service today because my email wasn't working. This was after renewing my domain and changing my service package to drop the hosting. The rep was able to see what the problem was in less than a minute and it was resolved in about 5 minutes.

I asked about the high domain cost, and she said I now qualify for their gold-level service (or something like that) and gave me a renewal for $9.99! It seems that if you want discounts, you need to call them and ask for it (which has been my exp. in the past too, but I had a 3-yr package and forgot about that).

I also asked about the horror stories I'd read about, and she said that when they were bought by web.com they set up an overseas call center for off-hours and holidays; however that did not work out (clearly) and now everything is handled from their 2 support centers in Pennsylvanis and Florida. I did notice that most of the bad reviews were 3-4 years old, which supports her story.

Given all this, I upped my rating to 5 stars, because I got a competitive price and am reassured that they're still providing the great support I've come to expect. And I'm glad I don't have to move my domain, because that could open up a whole new can of worms.

In summary, I highly recommend NetworkSolutions for domains and email. I don't have experience with them for web hosting, so I can't comment on that service.

Tip for consumers: Try calling support between 8 am and 10 pm Easter Time (New York). This always connects me to their very high quality American support team. I'm guessing that the outsourcing to other countries where the staff is not knowledgeable and has a poor attitude only occurs during the wee hours of ET.

Tip for consumers: Hang up and call back if the Tech Support Rep seems to be leading you down a wrong path. There's wide difference in knowledge & customer service orientation between different reps.

Unacceptable. And its outside of the reach of the police or a lawyer as its outside of the country. Try looking for a google+ page of them, or a Facebook page for reviews. There is none. Should say a lot.

Noticing that the company provides WordPress services, I called to purchase technical support for my WordPress website. As Network Solutions and its parent, Web.com provide hosting services for websites, I made it clear I was using another hosting company and was told that wasnt an issue. Rather than getting what I called about, I was led on a glossy internet marketing odyssey. It started with SEO, Search Engine Optimization, theoretically used to improve site rankings. Everyone wants their site to rank high in searches. I was told I would first be transferred to an SEO specialist followed by a WordPress technician who would solve my technical issues.

Cutting to the chase, this was sort of a Yellow Brick Road replete with brainless people aimlessly wandering around. The SEO was not Network Solutions SEO solution, but placing you on Facebook. Obviously anyone can deal directly with Facebook for those services. When I explained that I was looking for their personalized service, I was told that was a different SEO. This went on for about 45 minutes.

Ultimately I was transferred to their WordPress guru who explained they couldnt provide the service as I was already hosted by someone else and would have to sign a new hosting contract with them. Had all of this been explained up front I would have saved over an hour of wasted time and bait and switch tactics. As it turns out, this company has a history of serious legal problems for misleading customers in which the FTC presided over a settlement. A leopard never changes its spots.

I was with them for over 20 years but when Web.com bought them all the agreements they made were not honored. They flat out LIE. After over a year of lies I moved all my domains, however, to this date, over 15 days they have not completed the move, causing me and my businesses financial damage. I was told prior by associates that they would find a way to make any change miserable and disruptive. "They will make it long, claim mistakes, and you will have to file legal docs against them to get the move completed." To this point that statement appears to be true. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM OR WEB.COM. If you are looking for HONESTY & INTEGRITY, buy a dictionary.

Since my first domain registration decades ago, I have always registered my domains with Network Solutions, and i continued to use them exclusively....until now

I have been trying to call them and get a human being on the phone for months.

All I wanted was an English explanation of what the recurring charges ....for my handful of domains ....were for.

I suspected i was paying for options i really did not need, and the Tecno gibberish they use to explain the line item description of charges tells me nothing. Of late, i was incurring charges of around $60 a month.

All I wanted was to talk to someone for a couple minutes so they could tell me what this and that was for and I could hen make a decision about whether or not to keep those options, these unknowns typically running five, six, seven dollars a month

After calling them randomly for the past 2 months and being put into voice mail on hold hell I have given up.

Because I cannot get someone on the phone, and an a direct chat request to have someone CALL ME went unanswered ... I am transferring what I have to another registrar.

So simple to fix on their end

Network Solutions e-commerce store hard to manage - I'm not a programmer, but for a medical business I've set up I've been using Network Solutions' e-commerce package. It's not hard to use, but the interface is often frustrating (click on a link and lose all the data you just entered), and I've found it difficult to customize the product pages and much of the web store. However, I was able to integrate the Network Solutions shopping cart with Google Checkout and Google Analytics, which I found useful.

Overall, Network Solutions is not hard to use, but if you want a flexible e-commerce solution I would stay away from it (although I don't have a better recommendation right now).

Network Solutions is just one of a bunch of websites offering a speedy "who is" search to find out who is behind that domain name that you suspect might be a little dodgy.

Go to http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp then copy in the domain name you are checking out. For me, as a quick check it is interesting to find out
a) how secretive the outfit is being – is the name registered to a bricks and mortar visible company?
b) When was it set up and how long has it been operating?
c) Who is the registrar? – In case you want to complain about an illegal operation.

Go to the registry data, then you find the address of the registrar 'who is' server. (e.g. for sitejabber.com you need to go to http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx)

Go to that, run another search and you should get contact addresses / administrator details etc.

More experienced / better qualified internet sleuths might be able to add their guidance on how to drill down through the available information and what warnings to look for. All help gratefully received!
