June 2014: After learning of my difficulties (see January entry below), Leah from Photobin made sure I received my refund and also helped by using my films as part of a beta group for conversion to DVD. It is nice to deal with an organization takes customer feedback seriously. I am told that several departments at Photobin have worked together to correct the issue with a process for higher level training for phone staff and new hires. January, 2014: I called to see if they transferred from Super 8 to DVD, was told yes, and then bought an Amazon Local coupon. I had additional tapes, so I also paid Photobin for the additional tapes and shipping. Upon receiving my order, Photobin rejected it. I was told they would credit my Visa for all but the shipping, but they never did. By the way, Amazon Local gave me a credit immediately.

Please don't get suckered into buying a groupon for Photo Bin! You will not receive your order in the time frame that they tell you, at least double it. Then they will call you to upgrade your purchase, so at least double or triple the price you thought you were paying. You are supposed to access your photos on line, it never happened, 9 months later! They over charged me, I want a refund!

Hi Jean - I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I just emailed you directly and am posting here just in case you see this first. One of the two orders you purchased was inadvertently not charged at all when it should have been, which led to it being charged at the very end when all services in both orders were completed. We apologize for the delay in collecting that charge. I completely understand your surprise and frustration. This is an unusual situation. We take customer feedback very seriously. Our Customer Service Manager will call you directly today to work with you to make it right. Again, our sincere apologies and thanks for your patience!

Have been waiting for two months to get my 400 photos and dvd. Sent email got a nice reply three weeks ago, but no product. Am very concerned I've been scammed. I've used Southtree before, took 2-3 weeks. Never using there service again, I don't care hoe good the Groupon is. There service sucks!

I purchased a coupon for scanning of up to $350 photos. About a month ago, I inquired as to when the scans would be available and received a standard reply No. 23 that the work was in progress. No other info.

Today, I received the scans. The work is amateurish, noisy, extreme contrast. Worst thing is that the photos were scanned at a resolution of 430KB, way too small to correct on any software. Except for this coupon, I have used ScanCafe with excellent, professional results. I'm left with no choice but to send the photos to ScanCafe for rescanning. They are worthless, otherwise.

Tip for consumers:
Don't use. Use ScanCafe for quality work.

I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased the coupon. I have been trying to put in an order for one month for slide scanning. You can't complete an order until you sign up and agree to their rules. I don't want to sign in to their site and commit to Terms of Service. I just want to purchase what I asked for. I have called their 800 number for days and no one answers the phone. Wasted money.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE IT IS A RIP OFF!

Looking at all the reviews regarding this site, their having money issues, customer service issues, not following through with what they tell the customer I will never order anything from this site and I will tell anyone and everyone I know to stay away from it. Out of 12 reviews there were only 2 that had more than 1 star.
I will NEVER use this site and to think I was just going to get my coupon from Amazon Local, not anymore!

I'm going to message you privately because I need your last name or order number to resolve this for you asap. Also note that in addition to our "accepted video formats" images on our web site, we have added several cross-links to video formats accepted to make it even easier for customers to avoid the trouble you experienced. Terrible site and company. I bought a voucher to have some VHS tapes converted to DVDs and the experience was terrible. The first set of DVDs were sent back mislabeled. The asked me to return the VHS tapes and then waited almost 6 weeks to tell me that the DVDs also needed to be returned. They finally shipped the DVD back, but "forgot" to send me my VHS tapes. They only returned part of my order of DVDs. Custom service was horrible and I will never use them again.

Sent family slides to convert to DVD... 10 weeks later they sent everything back and said they couldn't do the job... even worse, they didn't credit my card... they gave me a credit to be spent with them... which I will never use since they can' process my slides... I'm out $80.

Elizabeth S. – PhotoBin Rep

Hi Patricia, I'm sorry you experienced such a delay only to find out we couldn't scan the slides. We experienced extremely high volumes over the holiday, which is why the issue wasn't discovered and reported right away; however, that delay of information to you is unacceptable. Please accept my apologies. We will be refunding the amount you paid us next week and you should see it on your statement 7 to 10 business days after that. I will message you privately to get your last name and/or order number to resolve the issue. I hope that, if you have the need in the future, you will give us another chance to give you a great experience.

Originally I gave them 1 star, but I am now updating since they contacted me personally to resolve. They did refund my money, and are also redoing my order at no cost to me. Great customer service. A big thank you to Karin for getting this resolved.

Original Message: So I spent about $100 to get my movies transferred to DVD and my photos on disc. The DVDs I got weren't labeled as mine and I couldn't get them to play in any case (tried 3 different machines). The photos are poor quality and blurry. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I called them and asked for a refund, which they said they would do, and now they haven't. I'm not surprised.

Hi Kristin - I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I just messaged you privately and am posting here as well in case you see this first. I want to confirm the refund information to be sure you are taken care of -- I see in our system a refund date of 4/21/14, which you should have seen on your statement within 7 to 10 business days, unless your statement arrived just before it was posted. Second, I want to better understand your personal experience so that we can follow up internally on any corrective action needed. Your feedback is important to us and we take it seriously. Thanks for your time, Kristin. You can reach us at cs@photobin.com or at 800-441-3175 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm, PT) so we can get this resolved for you.

Hi John S.,

I've already reached out to you privately, but wanted to follow up with you publicly as well. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We take our customer satisfaction guarantee very seriously and wish to make your experience with us a positive one. I wanted to clarify that every photo and slide we receive does get processed through a heavy duty photo blower before it is scanned. However, if there is any additional dust, specks, etc. after it is processed through the blower, these may be visible in the scans. If you wouldn't mind taking the time to reach out to me personally, I will do everything I can to help make your experience with PhotoBin positive.

Thanks again and have a great day,

I bought 2 orders on Amazon for 8 videos each to be transferred to DVD which is a total of 16 DVDs at a total cost of $116.00. When I went to the vouchers to get ready to send my videos to be transferred I had to go through a number of web pages to finalize the order. At the end the order stated a total of 8 DVDs for a total of $128.00. During the completion of each page they "offer prices for additional DVDs." that I didn't want which was like a bait and switch since following the various pages was confusing enough. After much frustration in trying to figure out what was wrong, I called Amazon who immediately refunded my $116.00 back to my credit card. After reading all of the complaints I am so glad I cancelled the order as I had early on been concerned about what happens if they lose my videos that cover the last 40-50 years. This company is not worth the risk for the deal pricewise for something so valuable. Amazon is the greatest!

Hello Susan -- I am very sorry for the inconvenience. I emailed you directly and am posting here just in case you see this first. It sounds like you may have been trying to redeem both vouchers on the same order. Unfortunately, our system only allows for a single voucher to be redeemed with each order. You can, however, place two orders and combine them into a single box when shipping them. That being said, I would like to make sure you are able to get your videos converted. Based on your post, it seems that you have already requested a refund from Amazon. I am happy to offer you the same price as Amazon, with complimentary free shipping, if you are still interested in placing your order. Again, I apologize for the confusion, and hope that we can fulfill your needs.

This is one of the very worst internet companies I have ever dealt with. And this from a guy who does 70% of all shopping online (141 orders from Amazon in the last 6 months).

First, and most important, you should know that their normal turnaround time is 5-6 WEEKS. No, not when they're busy. All the time. ALL... THE... TIME!

There is one thing they excel at; they are the kings of the up-sell. On their website. A call within 24 hours of placing your order. Again when your order is about a week away from processing. And yes, one of their up-sells (not inexpensive) is to speed up your order processing. Tigers!

In the world of automated email acknowledgements, these guys don't bother to let you know they received your order. No updates on order status. No notification when order is being shipped back. Email them for an update and you'll get a standard response reminding you that processing time is 5-6 weeks. Polite as heck, I admit, but still just a flat out stall.

Now these are huge problems by themselves, but add in the factor that they are holding on to irreplaceable photos and the stress beomes significantly elevated. I'm not even that sentimental, but I was squirming from the uncertainty of ever seeing my pics again.

Finally, to cap it all off, when I finally received my pics and dvd back 9-1/2 weeks (yes, NOT a typo - 9-1/2 weeks!) the vast majority of my scans are very seriously over-exposed! Dark, dark, dark... some beyond recognition.

I dealt with this company only because of an Amazon. Local coupon. On my complaint, they refunded my money, and I'm STILL pissed. And I'm usually a pretty calm and relaxed guy. THAT's how much I don't like this company.

Stay away! I purchased an Amazon Local promotion for this company. It was for transferring 6 VHS tapes to DVD. On the website it says it takes "up to 4 to 6 weeks depending on volume" to receive you product back. I have been waiting for 9 weeks now and still have not received my family videos back. When I called the company they were unapologetic to taking so long. They blamed Christmas on why they couldn't get the product returned on time. Even though they never changed the return time on their web site. When I asked for a discount on my order, which I had upgraded so I did have extra money that was paid directly to Photobin, they just said no. They kept saying they never guarantee the turn around time on their website. But they do! As I said before it says UP TO 4 TO 6 WEEKS. They are liars and don't care when you have a complaint. Do not use this company!

I bought three vouchers for photobooks, figuring to make a book for each of my kiddos. While the vouchers worked fine, it was not until I'd already expended a great deal of time and energy working on the books that I noticed that you CANNOT use three vouchers at once, meaning you get charged shipping three times - no combined shipping. I live literally the next city over from photobin, and the shipping is $8.00 per book. Add to that the tax (which, of course, is taken from the original amount), and these "free" vouchers I paid for are not so free, after all. Since I added a few pages at $1 each, after purchasing all three of them with the vouchers, I've spent more than it cost me to get the vouchers (all three together) originally. These better be some damn good books!

I got an Amazon coupon and spent weeks designing a memory book for friends in a South Texas RV resort. We no longer stay there, having purchased a home in a different area in Texas. I kept finding more pictures and kept adding pages, which I paid a reasonable price for. The book came and it was awful. The program was difficult to use but no one reviewed the book before printing it. The photos were clear but were out to the edge, and I wrote an ending in a high sized font and you could not read Then I wrote to them because I was embarrassed to send and during this time I got put in the hospital, nursing home and fell several thousand emails behind. I did not know that if you wanted to keep your pictures on their site, you had to pay a fee. So I found a notice that my time was over. We mailed the book any way and of course now one of the children wants a copy. I contacted them and they destroyed all my photos.and there is no way I can recover any of them. I did find a few that I put in a cloud and also in another company, Snap-fish, which NEVER destroys your pictures. Who knows how many copies of the book they could have sold? Or why not just return the photos but to totally delete them? So they do NOT review a photo book before they print them, they do NOT keep your pictures, they charge a Fee to keep your photos and think nothing of destroying pictures that you have entrusted them WITH and their photo book program is difficult to use. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM. And, I did try to get back on line with them before New Years and I could not sign in. Every photo had my initials on them, so I still do not understand the destruction of the book but then their proofreaders need glasses so it's easier to destroy pictures when you can't see.

Hi Sharon,

First, my apologies for the delay in responding to you as well as for any frustration you've experienced. I was under the impression I posted this a month ago, and am only now seeing my response didn't post. In December, we pulled our photobook making software. Unfortunately, this was a business decision, as we are now solely focusing on our scanning and media conversion services. In pulling this program, any images that were uploaded to the site for past projects no longer exist on our server. Again, our apologies for any frustration this may have caused you and thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with feedback; we appreciate it. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

I recently sent nearly 400 photos to be scanned by PhotoBin.com. Unfortunately, they don't inform you that once they scan your photos the only way you can use them (other than to buy products from them) is to click on, save and then move EACH INDIVIDUAL photo to your own photo files. I had sent 400 photos to another excellent site and they were immediatley loaded into my picture files. PhotoBin does send you a disk, but it will only load onto their site. Won't use them again! They frequently offer "deals" on Groupon/Living Social/etc - but BUYER BEWARE!

I did their amazon local deal for $39 for a 20x16 inch canvas print. Quality was great and shipping was fast. The shipping was $8.95, but I guess that can't be helped. I later got another email stating they were going to continue their 39 buck canvas print, so if you go with them, call and see if they can honor that deal.

I have spent the past 3 days trying to make a book using a voucher from Amazon Local. I have not yet completed the book due to it being a VERY glitchy system so I can't comment on speed of shipping or quality. They seem to be doing server maintenance right now at 9:30 on a Sunday morning so I can't access my saved projects. Can't that be done at 3am when people aren't trying to access the site? Buyer beware: I bought a voucher for a 50 page book BEFORE my trip. Once I uploaded the pics, I realized I might need more than 50 pages and at the start of the project they offered me a 76 pg book for only $20 more (otherwise each xtra page is $1) so I chose it. After completing 48 pages I decided I wouldn't need all 76 pages and tried to remove the extras willing to pay the $1/pg. You cannot remove the pages once you select the number at the start! I had to start it all over!

I'm also trying to upload pictures and can't seem to use the CTRL or SHIFT key to select more than 1 picture at a time.

Once logged out, I couldn't log back in, asking for my "username". I tried to have an email reminder sent to me, The link came via email but it only lets you reset your password and nowhere in my account is my User Name listed so I still don't know what it is. If it's my email address (which I tried and it didn't work) then please don't label the field "user name"...

I am beyond frustrated.
