“Abusive to customers”

Do not use SMTP for your email and communication needs. I have been a customer of theirs for over a decade. I haven't used their service in many years as I didn't need to, yet continued to pay the monthly subscription because it was low enough that it was worth the "just in case" security of having the relays available. Recently they changed the price to be 500% what it was before, $5 to $25/mo, so I decided that this too much for a "just in case" and asked to have my subscription cancelled because I haven't used the service in many many years. After asking me to consider staying on they offered a lower monthly price, $15. I said that I don't use the service so I'm going to go ahead and cancel. From there on their emails were cryptic and not clear. For example, they said, "Please, be informed that according to our Policy we required 30 days' notice prior to account cancellation." - which should be enough of a reason for you not to choose them. So I asked on July 13, in response to their message, "To be clear, I'm not going to be billed in August, correct?" Their response, "Thank you for your reply. Yes, you will no longer receive invoices or other statements from us after your account is closed." Guess what? I was charged today, August, for the monthly amount of $25 and when I emailed them about it... I received a **NEW** cancellation notification, saying that my service will end in September.

So, when you are shopping for a SMTP, you expect it to deliver emails, which is the basic must have.

Apart from that, emails were going to the junk folder for hotmail and when I requested cancelation, the Customer Support didn't even acknowledge my request and really just insisted that I keep testing again and again in order to see if the email delivers.

I thought that these guys were good since they have been in business for a long time (atleast the website said since 1998) but not sure if it carrier any weight.

Extremely poor customer support. It was more expensive for a shared IP with these guys than it was for a dedicated IP from another service. As their prices went down over the years they would not apply this to our account and would keep us on the older higher price. When I talked to our account rep and asked for a refund for all the months we were over charged he said he would not do it.

They will steal your money, be prepared. If you cancel expect to pay at least another 60 days of a service you aren't even using. Total theft.

We signed up for SMTP.COM to improve our email deliverability. We were sorely dissapointed in the service we recieved. We were using them for transactional emails from our ecommerce website.

3 days ago we paid them for a month of service. We also signed up for their overpriced "Reputation Defender" service, which was supposed to notify us of email deliverability problems. But without any notice our account was cancelled, when I asked them for the reason why they did not help at all.

I also asked them for a refund of the service fees paid and they refused.

We are now forced to lodge a chargeback with our bank to recover the funds as well as having to call in someone over the weekend to repair our website's email deliverability.

So I do not recommend that anyone rely on SMTP.COM to deliver their transactional emails.

Tip for consumers:
They do not contact you if there are issues with your account.

This site is corrupt! They get complete access to your site without your knowledge! Their based in Canada and rumor has it that they are part of the Canadian government!

Q: they just terminated after sending just 6 business emails only. They don't refund. If its genuine they should have refund. Poor response from support team if you are in problem. Abuse team are very rude, no proper explanation. Just they reply when they want & reply with no clarity. Now they grownup with making money by terminating account. So they are rude... If they are honest should come forward & rectify the issues or they should not approve an account by taking money. Within next day they terminate. They give no report also. Its very cheap. I was cheated by smtp.com

Horrible customer service, 3rd party shared customer service, people that know nothing about anything dealing with smtp.com nor even work for the company. I would avoid at all costs! Blamed blocked ip's as to why i never received any emails from with account details. All their ip's already blocked many places.

Agree with Martin R. They surreptitiously decided to implement a policy where when you go over your limit, they just bill you extra, at much higher price. No mention that this was happening. If your account is compromised (which they will blame on you), they make you pay. There is no trigger in their system to alert you that suddenly, thousands of emails are being sent, supposedly from your account. Unlike other smtp services. Their customer service is slow, rude and unresponsive. Cancelling is difficult. They ignore your requests for a while so you have to keep persisting. As a long time customer, it was disappointing. And their prices aren't even competitive, which I now know.

Service was performed until I started having problems. Than I tried to cancel the services to find out that nowhere in your account you can cancel, tried using support form under sales because no billing was available, They just keep withdrawing money without answering. Just look on website, there is no way you can find any info on cancelling an account, no where you can do so, and they do not anwser any mail about that, they simply keep charging you 70.00USD a month. After three months of patience, i have stop payment on them and will file a complaint to Major credit card (VISA) against them. Really shaby for a service supplier.

Extremely sad! They simply SUCK, you out of money...

Used them for many years mostly when mobile. Now getting bounce back as their ip is in Barracuda spam list. I have informed them many times and get form email saying thanks we are working on it. Been going on for a while. Asked them to make personal contact with Barracuda which is major spam filter. No evidence they have done anything, very disappointing.
