“Highly recommend!”

Shelly W.

I highly recommend Spanish with Paul. Paul is an expat living in Mexico who has been speaking Spanish for many years. He teaches using the block method where one builds up to speaking in sentences by connecting blocks of vocabulary together. Now you may be thinking to yourself, "Isn't that what speaking a language is? Putting words together to make sentences?" Well, yes it is; however, most language learning programs or text books start by having you memorize many sentences without giving much context behind what each word means in the sentences. With the block method, you learn each individual word, what it means, and then start sticking them together. Most language learning programs do not teach this way (which is a shame). Paul also takes the time to explain grammar points so that you are aware of how sentences are structured. For instance, if you've grown up in the United States, you're sure to have heard the phase "lo siento" in Spanish. It's translated to "I'm sorry" in English. This is actually not a direct translation. "Lo siento" literally means, "It, I feel" or "I feel it." So, us English speakers take it as, "I feel sorry that you feel that way. I feel it with you," which is simplified to, "I'm sorry." This is one of the type of things that Paul explains in the lessons. All lessons are video lessons, but he also provides a downloadable workbook so that you can practice reading. Currently there are three different subscription methods on the website. The first is Regular Member for $99.95 a year (139 lessons) and the other is Premium Member for $199.95 a year (150 lessons). There is also the new SWP Club for $299.95 but I am not sure what all this membership consists of. Returning members usually get a discount when they renew their subscription. Spanish with Paul has been the easiest and most effective way for me to learn Spanish. Currently, I am about 30% thru the course and I have learned so much that I actually decided to also purchase the Listening Comprehension Course. This course goes hand-in-hand with the lessons.

“Subscription circus act”

've been on a delightful rollercoaster ride with "Spanish with Paul". Picture this: I bought the program, I was notified that my subscription had expired, resulting in the closure of my account, and only to be met with an echoing silence. Meanwhile, my inbox became a digital jungle, overrun with a constant barrage of offers for more of Paul's "unmissable" programs. It's like he's taken up residence in my email, pitching his wares like a relentless door-to-door salesman. So, today, feeling somewhat masochistic, I thought I'd dive back into the chaos and start my lessons. Lo and behold, what do I find? My lessons have expired! And oh, what luck, there's a shiny new offer waiting for me to renew – at a "discounted" price, no less. Well, isn't that just peachy? After being ghosted and ignored, they expect me to happily fork over more cash. But as for lining Paul's pockets with your hard-earned cash? Save yourself the trouble.
