I love how you can look at the different nations media and what is popular around there. This wiki defines various pop-culture terms and I love those little settings like night vision which makes the backround darker also the random trophe and media button. If you spend a lot of time on the internet then this site will show you new terms and tell you about various movies. Great wiki
They police grammar harder than user behavior. No matter how hard someone vandalizes a page, they'll think it's all fine and good. Try to fix the vandalism, however, oh no now you've made the egomaniac moderator team upset, and they'll talk down to you condescendingly like a child. Seriously, though, the site is just beyond cancerous in almost every function. The attached picture basically sums up what happens if you don't bow down to every mod, inflate their ego, and constantly admit you're wrong for stuff you didn't do.

Tip for consumers:
Don't, just don't.
Once you get banned from the website you don't get a second chance. Also sometimes when you make an account you get denied and when I tried to contact the mods about the denied they don't reply back ever. They're supposed to help people on the website that's but they never will.
(Crossposting my Review of what is simply the same site as this.)
In the past, TVTropes.org was once consisting of believers of more genuine democracy. Though resulting behaviors of the userbase were still around, the site was run on an interesting concept of patterns in the media that we consume. Back in the day, I had done the YKTTW (now referred to as Trope Workshop) entries for a few tropes, most notably Savvy Guy Energetic Girl and Monster Allies. Then the dark ages came, signified by how the admins would ban whoever they didn't like for arbitrary reasons, up to and including grammar errors on a site where that would easily be fixed by something they called Wiki Magic. I was one such victim of this inane practice.
More draconian practices would come into play, in an effort to manage organization for its own sake. The points the administration would have are undermined by their renaming tropes into more generic titles as well as their continued practices of banning users with the same arbitrary reasons, claiming they have no validity on the site, and also dismissing other sites as inferior copies. This isn't even getting into how the admins and key users such as LightySnake wanted to be claiming to be democratic, which is a disgrace to the idea of aiding the little guy, an idea contradicted by their elitism. Their brand of hypocrisy has resulted in a user named ChrisX being left feeling unwelcome just for his opinion of World of Warcraft. One additional note is that these ill practices of the TVTropes.org administration are intent on forcing everybody to be happy, despite how that asks for a stagnant, unstable position intolerant of different opinions.
Oh, and in case you think the site holds themselves to their high standards? The image I provide is of Game Breaker for Kid Icarus Uprising, a page that is VERY overdue for cleanup even without the example I highlight. Said example, it should be noted, basically claims that all 3 Powers can be used simultaneously, which long story short is not possible due to technical details that I won't go into detail about here, although I will to anybody who inquires. This is more evidence of why the site's suddenly draconian and democratic-in-name-only standards fail: it shuts out needed voices for calling out these problems.
The way things are, the needed reformation process is unlikely. TVTropes.org, which I henceforth prefer to call vanilla TV Tropes particularly due to the generic renaming of tropes, is unlikely to repent. It could happen, but I'm not holding my breath.
Tip for consumers:
Don't expect the moderators to play nice. AT ALL.
You see, I've been on this site for quite awhile and it's changed a great deal since when I first joined.
You see, Fast Eddie is no longer in charge, as he's sold the site (back in 2014). Unfortunately, that's not the issue. The staff, it seems, are hard to reach and the mods seem to target some tropers unfairly. Apparently, from what I've gathered, some pages have been cut for pretty arbitrary reasons.
On top of these, the new sight layout has more bugs than a beehive but the thing that seems to be plaguing it the most is the ads, especially on mobile, as, the ads hijack the page, redirecting you to Lord knows what the hell.
It could be a very good site but it's not the same as it was when I first joined. Nevertheless, I hope things improve.
Tip for consumers:
From what I got by browsing the forums, the Admins and Mods discriminate against people with disabilities.
Some of the information on this website is fascinating to read at first. But the big downside, is that this website can also cause some long-term depression. The writers of this website also seem to be too obsessed with what they are writing about.

TV Tropes is one of my most frequented websites, and as you'd expect it's incredibly addicting and can indeed change your life forever.
The only problem… it can be very easy to get banned. The site's moderators are incredibly strict and try and make sure you agree to what they want, not what you want to see. They also never inform you of bans because they see it to be easier to ask why.
So, yes, TV Tropes is a good site, but it's best you don't create an account.
