“Manufacturer Customer Service is Non-Existent (Not exaggerating)”

If you don't believe me, call their number *******496) and go through their options. They defer everything to their local dealers, which I'm certain their dealers can answer all my questions and some, but as the manufacturer of the product, they're hiding behind their dealers, which raises a lot of questions and concerns. Makes me feel like the manufacturer can't stand their own grounds to address some basic questions.

Let me start off by saying that the fireplace works great. No complaints. BUT (and this is huge)... We simply cannot get the remote to do what it's supposed to do. We've had the (certified) installer set it up at the outset and return again to help to no avail. All we can do is turn it on, have it run for 8 hours, then it shuts off. No thermostat. The thermostatic function exists, but that that's the part that simply makes no sense. No matter how I try, I can't get it to turn on when it's cold and off when it's hot. AND it cannot be paired to a different thermostat (like a Nest, say). You are locked in to Valor's remote. Would not recommend until Valor changes their thermostatic remote. It sucks.

Try to get a different remote with your fireplace

Piece of Junk
Will not modulate flame. Overheats (only shuts off when an over temp is detected. Will not at times fully shut off (blower remains on).
No support from reseller/installer (Cooks Owen Sound), Valor or Mertik (controls manufacturer).

We bought their top of the line model last winter. I broke after a couple of weeks. It took weeks for them to finally come and get it "fixed". This year it broke again - in other words it was never fixed - and we have been waiting weeks to get a replacement... This is a BAD COMPANY_ STAY AWAY.

Great fireplace when it works. Tech spends to much time trying to get to the source because of design.

This is our newest gas fireplace heater and has been a problem from the start. (We own 4 other brands, all problem free.) The salesperson at On Fire in Santa Rosa, CA sold it as an excellent German-made unit. I think, but am not a repair person, that the problem may be in the electronic parts which start it. An independent repairmen and one from Valor came out 3 yrs ago and confirmed after 2 hours that a bad switch was the problem. They replaced the switch and it worked. Now we are in a new year and new season with a new problem. The circuitry parts on its GV60 Mertik Maxitrol, a techie receiver box connected to the gas valve, starts, controls, and stops the unit from a remote. The unit was purchased from On Fire, Santa Rosa, CA 2014 and has been rarely used ( 2 seasons) since purchased. We purchased a second new receiver from On Fire because On Fire thought it would solve its problems. It didn't. If the pilot is lit, I need to get on my hands and knees and reach my very small hand under the unit to turn the left knob counter-clockwise several clicks to get it lit. If the pilot goes out and it will in 5 days, we will probably not get it started again! Stay away from this product. I have spent hours on the phone with On Fire, in person with a Valor official and with repair people getting this unit to operate. Valor is inappropriately named!

Tip for consumers:
the older and simpler a heater the better

We purchased our valor fireplace in the spring of 2012 and had nothing but trouble from the unit to the fireplace retail store and valor itself. We purchased the fireplace from a fireplace only store in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. We decided on a valor fireplace because it is a radiant unit that doesn't need household power where we lose power here a few times a winter and this unit was suppose to be the only heat source in our family room. To start on the unit itself, it is controlled by remote control and that remote is also the thermostat, and there is no controlling the temp at all, it will a lot of times go up on high temp and not cut out which almost burned our house down. We can't use the unit unless we are there and when we are gone it is not used at all. A 6 to 7 thousand dollar unit that is no good to us. We got in contact with the fireplace store in St. John's (atlantic fireplaces) they told us that we were doing things wrong and when we asked them to come out and check the unit many times now, but being a hour away from them, they wouldn't come. Sent between 25 to 30 emails to valor explaining what was happening but not once did they ever return an email. I don't understand why but to us we have an expensive unit setting idle and as a bad reminder of what happened to us. I guess there attitude towards customers from valor and Atlantic fireplaces is we got your money now f*** you. Signed very fustrated

Tip for consumers:
Maybe I purchased the bad apple but the two parties involved could of fixed this problem so quick instead of being plain disrespectful to our family and leaving a death trap in our home.
