“Basically a scam”

Nancy B.
7/21/23

I had a virtual interview with Visiting Angels and it was a complete bust. The interviewer said she had to leave the interview. She was gone for 8 minutes. Then she said she had to apologize, which was completely insincere. The interview was a complete bust. Also Visiting Angels wastes time and money by sending so many texts. It's just a scam and I pity their clients.

Mario the coordinator at Naples Region.
Told me I can't reschedule my orientation because if reschedule my orientation that means I will do the same with the client.
- Low pay $15.00 hour
- Mario Onboard was very rude and unprofessional.
Skip this company and apply somewhere else.

Mcdonalds pays 15 dollars an hour, you drive to work, one place, no miles on your vehicle, do the same thing everyday. Visiting Angels pays 14.50 an hour, 30 cent reimbursement per mile after 30 miles, you clean feces off of clients, some sitiations can be stressful. They say they offer daily pay but its complicated. Take better care of your workers

The people taking care of my mother in law and father in law did not do anything for days in terms of care. They did most of their work: bathing my mother in law, changing her sheets, helping her purchase food, etc. only days before they knew we were coming. We found her very senile and confused. She was on medications that were not prescribed to her and had bright red old lipstick on her mouth smelling of spoiled milk. We asked her if she knew the date and where she was and she thought it was ten years prior. She had no idea who was in the house. She was given Ambian and Melatonin together, so she was seen on camera sleeping most of the time. This was their care and it was outrageous to me! My father in law had visibly looked weak and his clothes were not changed for months. We took him to a podiatrist because his nails were over 5 cm long and he was having difficulty walking. He constantly was falling and looked emaciated. My husband, who is a doctor, and I took both of them to the hospital for a full medical evaluation while we were in town. We live over 200,000 miles away in another state. We tried getting guardianship, but was denied by the state. So bringing them to Texas from MA would be considered kidnapping. All we could do was help when we were in town. They both loved us. Now both have died due to negligence. We even found their personal property destroyed and most expensive items missing. How can items be removed from the home by seven Visiting Angels girls rotating in different shifts? The entire operation was absurd.

Couldn't come on Monday but could make up on Sunday. I reemphasized that she shouldn't come at all. After a week in Skilled Nursing, it became clear that Mom would be staying there. Visiting Angles charged us for the week Mom was in Skilled Nursing and the next two weeks to finish the contract. The result--the charged Mom nearly $2000 dollars for 10 hours of questionable care.

Over $1600 for 4 days of their caregiver to sit in a chair on her phone 90% of the time she was there. The food she brought for herself to eat, stunk up the place. Fish I believe it was.
Total waste of money.

Get screwed by petty rules. Worked as a caregiver both privately and with a few smaller lesser known agencies. I thought I found an agency that could work for and for a little while it did. BTW I'm a former employee not a person who needed a caregiver so skip over. If you have anything that comes up car issues, childcare problem (just giving examples)etc be prepared to possibly be thrown under the bus. No I'm will not post my location. Thought for once they had my back but now more interested in pleasing their Rich client base. I only stayed so long due to one client I really clicked with. Realize now I would have been better applying for a job at Burger King for the pay and wouldn't have run my car into the ground running all over the place. This is not why I got into elder care. Why they can't keep good help and have to bribe employee s to recruit I suppose?

Very unreliable, they would show up late, leave early, or just not show up. Most of them did nothing but play on their phone.

Lousy service and very dishonest from top down. Bill you for hours when nobody was even there. Most of the caregivers don't do anything.

Service to start 2/2023, didn't show, didn't have the courtesy to call us that they weren't coming! Spouse took off from work, waiting for them to show up, to go over the things that the aide would be doing! They put on a good act job, during the first meeting, even had their nurse do an assessment visit and the nurse just bragged how wonderful this company is towards their clients! This office overstepped their bounds, which was verified by a different branch! So without warning Visiting Angels, just decided that they didn't want to take care of my spouse, who, by the way is wheelchair bound! Since when did we start to ignore the health and wellbeing of people! They were hired to provide a service, so I would have peace of mind, while at work, knowing that someone was there to assist my spouse during the day! My spouse had fallen before, and was laying on the floor for many hours, before I got home from work! That was very heartwrenching, and the reason why having a home health aide was important to the both of us! I don't want other disabled people who are considering caregivers, not to get conned by Visiting Angels! First impressions mean everything to me, and by them not showing up, nor calling, speaks volumns for this office.

Tip for consumers:
In this instance, verification that this company, who agreed to do the service, should not have sent the nurse for any assessment, until all paperwork and agreements were completed, approved and verified, instead of the games that Visiting Angels played! This experience has left a bad taste, and they broke our level of trust. The process and professionalism is lacking! Still waiting on the return of all information, which includes financial information! Very upsetting!

The woman I talked to sounded like she'd rather be talking to anyone else. I asked her when they could start if I hired them. She said it depended if anybody wanted to do it. She said she was going to reach out to the people and get back to me. She never got back.

A Relative was receiving care from Visiting Angels in Norfolk, NE. It was relayed to me that the level of unprofessional communication from management is undesirable to say the least. While discussing the care plan, Sara Luhr the Marketing director, was very crude and abrupt when speaking to her elderly disabled client. There is a way to communicate your concerns and this was NOT it. It appears that the pressing issue with Visiting Angels was not the client and her needs, but rather a staffing issue. However, their frustration's with this, was then taken out on the client as well as her family. The client was belittled and downgraded by Sara Luhr making it seem as if the client was a burden on the company. The family was told they were required to fill shifts when caretakers call out? This is an absurd expectation as this family is paying Visiting Angels to care for the client. During this interaction, the Owner (Julie Labadie) was there observing this disgusting/ childish behavior from her colleague Sara. I would expect the owner of the company to intervene but that was not the case. When I spoke to my elderly disabled family member, she was emotionally distraught after the interaction. This IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! After doing some research, I have also learned caretakers expressing dissatisfaction on how they are spoken to on daily basis by management. Example: Text messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS to show the caretaker they are yelling at them. Changes need to be made or this location will go under in a matter of time. Word of mouth does travel fast and I will make sure of it. I have many connections to this town, thanks to my now retired profession with the City of Norfolk. The conclusion to this lengthy review, is that our family has now hired a more reputable/professional company to care for our loved one.

I used to work for visiting angels. The clients were wonderful, but the people on charge of our training were awful. They "trained" us by watching slide shows. They had me shadow a client once with someone who had only been with the company for 8 weeks. They do nothing if you report abuse and say their were no other reports, when the client was clearly distressed around their abuser. Basically it's a toxic environment. You give them your availability sheet and don't use it to schedule you. I wish this field was more caring. I assisted another client and their family members said I was the only one who interaced with them, and tried getting them to interact and play games with the family. It is quite sad and disappointing. I now pray I die at 60 so I won't have the same fate with the system that these people are put through.

My husband and I would give zero stars but it is not an option, Merian (owner) is being gifted one star. This is not the company to care for your loved ones. We made it very clear from the beginning we wanted CONSISTENT care with one caregiver all week and one caregiver on the weekend. This was promised on the day the contract was signed with the. By the second week, on Monday while we were leaving for work a total stranger showed up at our door at 9:00 am unannounced and never previously introduced. We had no warning, no one called or said a word. When we called the office, it was obviously one hand had no idea what the other was doing. They acted like they didn't know what was going on and that obviously some mistake had been made. I had to miss a day from work, cancelling all my appointments to stay home and care for my mom. We also had a 4-day trip planned where we needed overnight care which was communicated to the owner Merian in plenty of time, almost 3 weeks prior to our departure.

What wound up happening was they gave us a schedule which provided 8 different caregivers to watch my mom in our absence. When confronted Merian acted as if she saw nothing wrong with 8 different caretakers parading through our home, none of which we nor my mom (who has dementia) had met or knew anything about. When we expressed our concern over 8 caregivers over 5 days for a patient with dementia (Change causing confusion...) she became irate, screaming at me on the phone and ORDERING me that I need to answer the phone when she calls. She persisted with her rant, screaming about how hard she worked "this week" to even find anyone on such short notice when in fact she, in her own handwriting noted it on the initial contract 3-weeks prior. I told her we gave her 3 weeks' time and she yelled at me, "I don't care if you did, if you don't like it you can leave." She has yelled, berated and screamed at us 3 times in 3 weeks. She is unstable, incredibly unprofessional, and only cares about her money. Period. She will give you her song and dance that she has the best caregivers that she treats so well; 401k, health insurance, on and on. That was important to us. I spoke with ALL of the caregivers that came to our home and they said they do not get 401K, they do not get health insurance and they too must put up with her irate behavior whenever she flies off the handle. They also informed us they had not been with her "years" but only a month or two unlike the picture Merian sold us on. At a minimum of 35.00 an hour there are SO MANY other choices out there!. Do not trust this company, they do not care at all about the care of your loved one but the money coming in. When I finally told Merian I would not allow her to talk to me in such an ugly way she, yep,. Got even more irate! Screaming, she told me our relationship was over, hung up and called our caregiver and asked her to immediately leave our house. No concern whatsoever that she would be leaving my mom at home alone. We have 2 of her rants recorded and I only wish there was an option to post that so you can hear her behavior.
This is the first negative review I have ever left, I make it a point to celebrate companies and services that do a great job and work hard and honestly. I only hope this will help you pass this company by and look for someone else or you will find yourself, very quickly, writing the same review I just have. Looks like above, had I looked, there is a very similar review to mine.

High turnover rate and working with clients, they cut hours, it's so not steady work. And working with clients with dementia so they can accuse you falsely of stealing items? So not freaking worth it. Dealing with judgmental clients and family who look down on you

My grandmother is missing a lot of valuables including jewelry after her "visiting" angels came to her home. It wasn't coincidental - valuables were missing after their visits.

My case manager assigned Visiting Angels to me as a night time resource for my evening nursing care. From the very beginning communication was poor and inconsistent. The owner Tom Smith came to do my assessment and actually left my paperwork here in my home. He then told me care would start that following Sunday evening. No one came Sunday or Monday of that following week. I had to call Visiting Angels, myself on Tuesday to ask about my potential care provider. Now after this, I had 6 different people in my home within 2 weeks. I have 10 year old twin girls. I did not like random people coming every night. I called their office, spoke to " Connie", "Robin" and even the weekend person "Ailene" and reiterated my preference of 1 or 2 of the same care givers. This past week I had no care giver July 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. I was never called, until Wednesday July 4th. Ailene attempted to be oblivious of the fact that no aide had come to service me. ABSOLUTE LIARS! I was placated, lied to and assured that the "merry-go round" of Nurse aides would stop. That was a lie! The staff are not trained or licensed professionals. They are not CPR certified or CNA certified. Everyone in the office is dishonest with the patients upon inquiry. Out of the 10 women that came in out of my home only 2 of them were professional, competent and did their job well. Some of these women were on their cell phones, watching T. V and attempting to talk the time away. Visiting Angels Delaware is disorganized, ran poorly, staffed with dishonest people and most of all they really do not care about the patient's care. That was evident in the mismanagement, lack of communication and disregard for my needs as a patient!
I am so grateful and appreciative that my Medical Insurance Case manager advocated for me and continues to do so for my care
DO NOT EMPLOY THIS AGENCY TO CARE FOR YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE!
