I am a small electrical company owner and was in a one year contract with HomeStars for advertising. That is the shortest contract term that they offer. When I asked the sales people at HomeStars what I can expect for a return on investment. They said it is a very reasonable expectation would be getting $3000 of business for the $300 a month in fees. These expectations were set by the sales team and were far from being met and I feel I was lied to, to sign up. I got one job worth less than $500 for four months of advertising. After voicing my concerns to how poorly HomeStars was performing with helping my business grow I was then explained that I "need more reviews". I had 6 reviews with a 9.5/10 average. It is impossible to compete with the other electrical companies with 100+ reviews. HomeStars will not give you more leads for business unless you push all your existing customers to give you reviews through HomeStars. HomeStars is a very expensive review platform in place of Google Reviews.
After 4 months of advertising with HomeStars with one minor job coming from it, I decided to eat the %35 percent cancelation fee that is tied to the contract. From July to August I requested 7 times that my contract gets canceled. I requested to talk with a manager. After being able to email Farhad I asked if we could talk over the phone to speed up the process instead of emails back and forth. I asked for a phone number in three different emails and did not get an appointment for a call until I threatened to cancel my credit card. I would not recommend any construction company to sign up with HomeStars based on my experience.
