  • Air Canada

I love Air Canada! Every flight I've had with them has been wonderful. Booking through them is extremely easy and straight forward. I get to see the information and photos of the plane and pick my seat. They show all of the rates for the day you're looking at with possible upgrades, along with tabs that show the cheapest price for dates the week before and after. They've been the cheapest option every time I fly to canada, and the only one that doesn't have layovers. Other airlines always want to divert to Detroit or Cleveland before taking me to Toronto. The one time I had to change a flight, the fee was only $75 (much lower than others) and the employees were very helpful. They send reminders for the flights and allow you to set up e-mail and/or text reminders, along with information on any delays. The only delays I've experienced have been because of runway closures, nothing to do with the airline itself.

I travel to Canada fairly often and am within 2 hours of 5 major airports. While I would never book through Kayak - it uses the major travel companies, like orbitz, that are all rather scammy and can cause a host of problems - it's great for initially comparing the prices for the different airports. Sometimes airport A is cheapest to fly out of, sometimes it's $200 more than the other 4, and sometimes it's best for me to do one layover. Kayak helps me figure out what I'm looking for when I go to the airlines' websites.

A website to help puppy mills sell their dogs. Stay far, far away. Sites like this one are disgusting.

  • American Kennel Club (AKC)

5/23/11

The AKC is the main registry for purebred dogs in the United States. Their website contains a plethora of information, including:
- Detailed information, photos, and standards for all AKC breeds, as well as links to their official breed clubs and rescues
- Information on local all-breed clubs
- How to get started in all dog sports, ranging from lure coursing to herding to rally and everything in between
- The rules for all dog sports, along with lists of judges, all titles that can be won, events being held, results, and so on
- Breeder education, recording keeping, and other things useful to dog breeders
- Register dogs, litters, etc online
- Look up your dog's pedigree
- Learn about home owner's insurance, how to prepare for disasters, and other things that tend to get overlooked
- How to register your MIXED BREED to compete for AKC titles in agility, obedience, rally, and coursing
- Healthcare insurance for dogs, microchip registration with the AKC to help locate lost dogs
- Education sheets, coloring pages, and other things to help children learn about proper care for dogs

The AKC has a wonderful website, whether you're thinking about getting a dog or have owned them for years.

Going through the site and doing plenty of combinations of things, I've yet to find something that doesn't say you need to go to the vet in the next 12-24 hours. Even a couple of sneezes, with no other symptoms, means a rush to the vet on this site. For health problems, I wouldn't suggest using this website.
The links section is great, however.

  • Your Purebread Puppy

5/23/11

What a crock. The entire purpose of this site is to push the author's books. She has obvious prejudices against many things, including purebred dogs and conformation showing. Much of the information posted is very misleading or incorrect. A mixed breed is not going to be "middle of the road" in terms of temperament, it is going to have the traits of the breeds in its makeup. Many mixed breeds are crosses of similar breeds, such as terrier x terrier, retriever x retriever (the poodle is a retriever), and so on, which certainly won't result in a "middle of the road" dog. Mixed breeds are also just as likely to have health problems. Cancer, for instance, isn't breed specific. Those that breed mixed breed dogs aren't people who do all of the proper health testing before breeding (CERF, OFA, etc. - not just going to the vet for a check-up), and don't eliminate dogs with such problems from their lines/neuter the dog they leave loose/whatever.
If you want real, correct information about a breed, go to the breed's official club website(s). You will find people who have spent decades working with the breed, lots of information on health and genetics, where shows are being held so that you can go meet some, and other important things. Clubs always want to help you learn and aren't trying to sell you anything. They'll be happy if you want to own one of their breed, but they'll also be truthful and let you know if the breed isn't right for you.

Weheart it is a great place to find pretty photos. However, most images are posted without the photographer's consent, and link back to a tumblr, etc. that also doesn't link to the original.
