I bought 4 bottles on Magnesium Citrate 400 mg in July. I had 1.5 bottles of Magnesium from a different brand previously purchased. I traveled August, September and part of October. So in middle Oct I opened the first bottle from Solaray. There is a very strong smell of RANCID OIL coming from the bottle. I opened one VegCap to smell the actual magnesium powder and it smells as bad as the bottle. So the product is contaminated with whatever it is that causes that smell.
I contacted Solaray at the toll free number, left a message and a woman left me once a message in my voicemail. I called several times after her call, one can only leave a message. No reply.
I contacted the seller, iHerb, and they suggest that I pay for the shipping. Grumbling about the fact they have a 60 days return policy regardless of when the product was opened. The "use by" date is Jan 2021 so it should be perfectly fine. I opened one bottle and I gave one bottle to a friend of mine after a knee surgery. I am embarrassed but I will ask if they were used or just thrown away. I have purchased many different supplements through my adult life and I am 58 years old and I have never experienced anything like this. The smell is terrible and strong. It should be a recall. By the way, the bottle says 400 mg but that is for every 3 capsules. Why don't they just simply say it is 133.3 mg per capsule? The lesson here is: Buy local. I am positive that if I had shown to any local store with this stinky bottle and the other 2 unopened that I have, I would have come home with an apology and with 3 new bottles of any magnesium of my choice, perhaps another one for my trouble and Solaray products might have been taken off the shelves with a letter to the manufacturer. I will NEVER again buy supplements on line. I should know better, buying local is good for the economy of my community.
