  • Hampton Inn

Hampton Inn in Lakewood looks like a former Omni or Hyatt with all the rooms located around a central atrium. This place is old, tired, and in desperate need of a complete makeover. The lobby area where complementary breakfast is served was so off-putting I didn't even want to eat there. The carpeting is covered with huge stains, the upholstery is stained and dirty. You don't want to sit down. How does management/owners look at this and think it's okay? The room, especially the bathroom, showed signs of wear everywhere. Doors had huge splinters of wood missing, as did the trim around the floors. Bathtub shower had old rust stains. The whole place was just ick.
We stayed here instead of at the Hampton Inn out by the airport (DIA) because it was about half the price. Now I know why.
There are plenty of other chain hotels in the immediate vicinity of this one. Skip it if you can.

Good quality products and good customer service. Being able to take returns to Sears and not have to pay for return shipping is a plus.

  • Amazon

I've always shopped with confidence at Amazon. For the most part I trust them to send me my items quickly and without issues. My only complaint is having to sift through so many bogus reviews of products before I can find a few that seem authentic. Love Amazon Prime.

LL Bean has always had outstanding customer service. This has become more important to me over the years. I'm happy to pay a little higher for my boots/outerwear than what the big box stores are offering. LL Bean always has free shipping and they take returns with no questions asked.

  • Expedia

I've had different experiences with Expedia. Once I had reserved a hotel in CA and when checking in asked to change to a larger suite-type room and even though those rooms were available they would not let me upgrade because they said they had no idea what to charge me because they didn't know what Expedia had charged me for the room. I tried asking the hotel staff several different ways but the answer back was always no.
I use Expedia to compare airline prices but when I'm doing the actual ticketing I go to the airline website.

I bought three dresses from A. P., with the idea of keeping one and returning two. Unfortunately, none of them fit. I thought it would be a simple thing to send them back. Wrong! I tried using their web site to print a return mailing label but kept getting an error message. So I called their customer service number and was told there was nothing they could do for me regarding a return. The woman I spoke with said their customer service number shown on their website is only for placing orders, nothing else. So how does one go about getting a preprinted mailing label to return items? She said she would have to "elevate" my case and someone would get back to me via email within 48 hours. ELEVATE MY CASE?! As if this is the first time anyone has tried to return one of their items?! All I'm trying to do is get a preprinted label. Of course no one emailed me so I called again about my return. I asked the rep if she could just email me a preprinted label. Her answer was that she had no way of sending me an email! O. M. G.
For a company that sells high end women's clothing etc. that I assume has been in business for a while, they don't seem to care about keeping their clients. You might think I was asking them to reinvent the wheel. How have they gotten away with treating their customers like this for this long?
By comparison, I ordered two dresses from Nordstrom and had to return one. I had my return label printed out, on the box, and out the door in less than 5 minutes.
I'm sending the dresses back but I am very skeptical that I will see my $700+ refund any time soon.
