Lifehacker is like all the rest of the news outlets that don't bother to report both sides of a story, the latest example being the name-calling of the couple who defended their home. Without asking them why they felt the need to do that or observing facts such as the gate to their gated area's being broken through, Lifehacker condemns them and calls them names. Given what has been going on with the looting and burning, I would say that anyone in his right mind might be a bit fearful when a crowd of uninvited people come onto private property.
