About Me

An ordinary, humorous, outspoken member of the community who doesn't like shonky companies.

How I Can Help

Good at writing English. I'd say keep your reviews short with short punchy sentences, choose your words carefully. If it's too long and detailed it loses impact. Don't whine and complain. Be confident and sock it to the company who has treated you badly.

Interests

Photography, crime fiction British and European, studying foreign languages, making people laugh

Ordered an expensive new book. The book was wrecked by them before dispatch. Their speciality is books but couldn't pack a book without ruining it. The gluey sticky flap of the cardboard envelope was tucked into the envelope and adhered to the front cover of the book, instead of being stuck to the outside of the envelope. Their staff need a video on how to put a book into an envelope intact. Not nuclear physics. Worst state of goods ever received. Asked for a replacement. Got a refund. Lied about replacement policy – 2 different versions from 2 different staff. I believe that this was such severe negligence that I should have received a special courtesy replacement, no questions. Giving me a refund wasn't a nice gesture either, it saved them from giving me two books for the price of one. I'll never buy any books from them again.

AbeBooks UK, my favourite company since 2016 until they exposed me to the worst bookseller ever. My new and expensive book arrived with a long thick gluey streak down the front cover with part of the envelope adhering to it too. Never seen worse. The gluey flap of the cardboard envelope had been tucked inside, adhering to the book, instead of being glued to the outside of the envelope. I asked for a replacement. Seller gave me a refund. I wanted quality and service, not a refund. Lied to me about their replacement policy – two different versions from two different staff. I expected AbeBooks UK to ask them how dare they send one of their customers a book in that state. It was wrecked at point of dispatch. They supported the bookseller instead. Offered me a discount and apology. Don't want either. I think that regardless of any replacement policy, the damage was so severe that I should have received a replacement. AbeBooks UK exposed me to this bad seller. AbeBooks UK threw me under the bus for the seller. I can no longer trust them to vet their sellers and will do it myself. A good company heading downwards. Look at the images and be appalled.

In addition to a first bad review I had to get them back to redo three walls. To their credit they sent their "head painter" who agreed with my complaints. Glue from stripped wallpaper was showing through, they taped my plasterboard walls and painted over the tape without my knowledge or consent. I made them remove all the tape and replace it with filler, as is normal. Tape was bulging and cracking in places, walls not filled properly, tape askew on skirting board and painted over. An absolute mess. The head painter did an excellent job but I'd rather it had been done properly initially and why was it not? After he'd gone another taped bulge appeared which they did not redo. I now also find that the paint in the living room is like a thin skin which comes off easily at the slightest touch, right to the bare wall. One wonders if it was prepped properly under the paint? There was a failure to professionally deal with plasterboard walls and the problems they present. My sister stripped and painted the front hall with good strong surface and smoother finish resulting and a much better job. Yes they admitted their mistakes but I certainly would not recommend them. A very bad experience. Photo images should be read vertically.

  • Ring

I have already given Ring doorbells a bad review for very poor performance and charging customers extra to turn on security functions of their doorbell which they ought to own. The notifications kept stopping, so that I was not aware of battery use level, kept defaulting to not working, had to be charged too frequently, took a very long time to charge, and worst of all, always fails to work in very cold weather. Having suffered enough aggravation from Ring, I came up with the perfect solution to all the many exasperating technical problems. It's very easy. Take a screwdriver. Unscrew the Ring doorbell. Take the components, put them in the bin and buy a different brand of doorbell. May Ring never ring in my home again.

Russell Hobbs Luna red 2 slice toaster bought in January 2020. I didn't want a fast toasting display, I want a piece of toast. Toast is supposed to be dry and crisp. This stupid machine scorches the toast lightly on the outside, giving the appearance of a nice piece of toast, but it is soggy on the inside. Steam pours out of the toast when you butter it. You get singed bread with a soggy pulpy centre, which is supposed to be toast. I hate it. I haven't had a real piece of toast since January and I have to restrain myself from throwing it in the garbage bin. I have tried all settings and manual manoeuvres possible to get a piece of toast but you end up with soggy hot bread with a fake browning or a charred inedible black apology for toast. But there's more. This toaster was a replacement for a Russell Hobbs "Legacy" Special Edition (Ha ha ha ha ha) which burnt 5 slices of bread to a cinder with smoke pouring out of it and had to return it. The designers and Russell Hobbs management should be force fed slices of toast from my toaster every morning until they admit it's absolute rubbish that doesn't make anything like toast.

  • Match

Match.com just embarrassed and upset me by listing me as a woman looking for women. I am a woman looking for a man. I went round and round in circles for ages trying to rectify this, no answer to their phone numbers, the virtual assistant understood nothing I said. It's hard to delete your account if you haven't subscribed. Finally managed to delete my account no thanks to them and end the embarrassment. I hadn't even finished signing up. One of the worst experiences I've had online.

NO RETURNS. Don't go near them. You will lose all your money. NO RETURNS UNLESS FAULTY. My son bought me a 2-tier dish rack. It was absolute rubbish. Flimsy, rust-prone structure. Refunded him and BINNED it. Remember you will NOT get your money if you merely don't like the goods.
