TinyURL is a url shortening service provider. The website is useful for people who often share links on Twitter where they can't post long urls due to character space limits. TinyURL has a simple design that looks a little too old. The website needs a little uplift. The website also lacks many services that other url shortening service providers are offering such as statistics and API to integrate into other web apps.

  • IP2Location

IP2Location helps you quickly find your IP address. It also has a tool to find the location of an IP address which then provides more information about that IP address such as ISP, Whois information and other relevant information. This website is particularly useful for website owners and community moderators dealing with spam and abuse.

  • Quora

10/12/11

Quora is an online question/answer community much like Yahoo! Answers and Wiki Answers. Quora is in invite only phase this means that you need invitation from a friend who is already on Quroa to join it. Ask around your friends on Facebook or Twittter chances are that some of your friends are already there. What I liked about Quora is that the answers there come from real people with real expertise on the topics.

  • Debian.org

10/12/11

The official website of Debian GNU Linux Operating System. Debian is well known for its stability, security and freedom. The website is extensively well documented, with help and support options available to the new linux users at every step. I particularly liked their installation manual which is so detailed that it becomes boring at times.

Debian represents the freedom that Linux brings to the servers, the web and computers. It comes in many different flavors and Debian has many separate websites inside the main sites for packages, flavors, support and contributors. It also runs many mailing lists where users can subscribe and communitcate with other debian users.

  • Ubuntu Forums

10/12/11

Ubuntu Forums is the official online community forums for Ubuntu Linux Operating System. Joining the forums is free and anyone can ask questions and post answers. This community help system has helped many new linux users to learn more about their new operating system.

A common problem with new linux users is hardware compatibility and finding drivers for their hardware to work with the new operating system. Ubuntu Wiki has many guides on that but forums are an easy way to troubleshoot more complex problems.
