I purchased a chandelier for $99 ($26 shipping) - normally $200. Great deal... except it didn't really look anything like it did on the website. I decided to return it. Called them and received the RMA, with the warning that I had to pay return shipping. To my horror, the return shipping cost $89. For a $99 light fixture that didn't look like the picture on the website. Ugh. So yes, the deals are good but if you don't like it, you are screwed.

I purchased the M7 max trainer and so far it's been worth every penny. But the sales and marketing and customer service is so bad that I'll never buy anything else from Bowflex (or any Natulis brand). If you go to the site, you'll find yourself stalked across the internet. If you leave something in the cart, you'll get an unwanted e-mail claiming there are additional discounts you may not be aware of. If you ask about those to the bot that e-mailed you, it won't respond about those extra discounts. If you talk to the chat person, the chat person will claim no other discounts exist - that the e-mail is just auto generated and it's content is basically false. And then if you right a bad review, the veracity of your review will be attacked.

Save yourself the trouble and buy something else. There are plenty of companies with similar products and less hassle. You may even find it easier to try those products in person at a nearby store.

  • Crutchfield

4/6/16

I ordered a scratch and dent/open box Onkyo 800 receiver. Although I saved $150 off the Crutchfield price, it was still $100 more than an open box unit from One Call. I was willing to pay the extra money for Crutchfield's customer service.

Unfortunately, the unit they sent was defective/broken. In the meantime, the regular price had been reduced a $100. I called and was made to feel as if I should consider myself lucky that they were willing to exchange it for another unit at the considerable savings of $50 over their current price - and still $100 more than One Call. I had to spend several minutes negotiating with the customer service rep to get her to agree to send another unit out and have UPS pick up the defective unit.

I just arrived home to find that a new Onkyo 800 - but UPS didn't pick up the new unit. Apparently UPS didn't know anything about a pickup. If I want UPS to come and pick it up I have to pay extra.:/

Obviously I'll be dragging the old unit to the UPS store on Saturday (some of us work longer hours than the UPS store is open). But I won't be paying extra to do business with Crutchfield. The customer service just isn't what it used to be.

  • Wayfair

3/29/16

I ordered a flooring sample about 2 weeks ago. Last week I got an e-mail saying there was a delay. Today I got an e-mail confirming that they cancelled my order as requested. I don't know who cancelled it but it certainly wasn't me.

Either someone at Wayfair decided to cancel my order and didn't bother telling me OR my account was hacked. Either way I'll NEVER buy anything from Wayfair again.

Oftentimes, the Home Depot or Amazon are cheaper. If I'm in a hurry I may use lowes.com to make the purchase and pick up in store. However, about half the time I do this the store doesn't actually have the item in stock.

  • PetFinder

2/21/16

Petfinder is an inexpensive way some reputable shelters use to get animals adopted. That said, I wouldn't recommend using Petfinder to contact the shelter or to apply unless you don't want to be seriously considered. I can see the shelter's point of view - on the internet, no one knows if you are a dog. If you serious about adopting, then go to the shelter when they are open and talk to the volunteers, meet the animal, and if you are match then you'll have a new addition to your home. For all you know, there will be a better fit for your family at the shelter that was NOT on petfinder. That's what it's all about - family.

  • Spindle Mattress

12/22/15

Trying to buy a mattress is awful. Most are overpriced junk with worthless warranties. Spindle is the exception. Their website is a treasure trove of information that can help you decide what firmness is best for you. If you have any questions, you can always call or e-mail and Neal will respond in no time. If you live in Massachusetts you can check out their outlet and actually try the various firmness levels yourself. But best of all - Spindle mattresses are an AMAZING deal. You are getting a true ALL latex mattress. Other dealers will sell you a so-called "latex" mattress if the only think latex-about it is the 1 inch topper. The rest will be junk and they'll charge you your first born child for the privilege. Not so with Spindle. Spindle's mattress is all latex. In fact, they use 3,3" layers so you can configure the mattress that is perfect for you. Not one size fits. Not 3 levels but everything from extra soft to FIRM. I went with a medium after going through 2 of the more famous start-ups selling cheap latex-foam hybrid mattresses and an inner spring mattress with latex topper from a certain imax furniture store local to Boston. Spindle is the best.

Update: The order arrived - on December 24th. I'm still not going to order anything from here again. It takes too long and there is no tracking.

I ordered a cute Christmas present on November 29th. It allegedly shipped on December 2nd. As of today, December 22nd, nothing has arrived and there is no tracking information. So much for that Christmas present.

Ordered an anymote, got the UPS tracking number... and it apparently never left or they lost it in their own warehouse. I contacted them and am hoping I can get a refund.

  • Brooklyn Bedding

11/18/15

Update: Lately Brooklyn Bedding has been incentivizing happy customers to provide reviews in exchange for free pillows or sheets. Reputable companies shouldn't have to pay customers for reviews.

I found Brooklyn Bedding through some online reviews (forums and blogs). Previously I had purchased a Casper and it was awful. I took a chance and order a soft #bestmattressever. It was a very comfortable bed. Unfortunately, I ordered a soft, which didn't provide the support I needed. After a few weeks my lower back began to hurt. I contacted their customer service and they said I could return the soft in exchange for a medium, but I wouldn't be able to return the medium if it didn't work out. I don't blame but I decided against taking the risk of being out ~$700 if the medium didn't work out. I'm waiting for their shipping company to come and take the bed away now.

Tip for consumers:
1. Read the positive reviews with some skepticism - the review may have been "bought" with free pillows or bedsheets.

2. Keep in mind that if you don't like you can return it but you get only one chance. Unless you are absolutely 100% certain, consider a mattress company that provides more configurable options and a willingness to adjust the firmness of the mattress, in addition to a 100 or 120 trial period and a fee-free return policy.

  • AJ Madison

11/18/15

I ordered a GE free-standing induction range last summer and received it, by freight, in 2 days. It was in perfect condition and the price was great.

This past week I decided to go with AJ Madison for a new refrigerator, even though it was going to cost about $100 more than a competitor. Problem #1: The refrigerator is on back order. That's a problem because the $275 in advertised rebates will expire weeks before the refrigerator will even be back in stock in their warehouse. When I called their customer service they responded that I should just send the rebates in anyway - just don't fill in the serial number. After reading the fine print it's pretty obvious that that isn't going to work. Not only that but one of the two rebates doesn't apply to items on back order.
I decided to but it from a competitor who doesn't seem to have to these supply issues and was about $100 cheaper.

Update #2 The other retailer claiming they had the refrigerator in stock didn't and kept stringing me along. In the end, I got the same model in a different color from AJ Madison for what was the lowest price yet. It is in stock and should arrive in 2 days.

  • Casper

11/9/15

You may love this mattress or you may hate it. You could sleep like a baby or wake up in pain. And they will take it back within 30 days - you are NOT required to sleep on it for 30 days. But they won't provide a topper if you need a less firm mattress. If the Salvation Army in your area won't take it away (mine won't) then Casper send the mattress to a landfill. It makes no sense to refuse to provide a topper to soften the mattress when the other option is for the company to take a loss on it completely. 1-800-got-junk costs money and isn't the tax write off the Salvation Army would have been.

Chewy.com is perfect! Seriously. I kept trying to run around various stores since Amazon wouldn't let me buy the kitty litter, treats, and prescription food in their subscribe and save program. Heck, prescription diet wasn't even an option. Trying to run around and do that for 4 cats is crazy. Chewy.com now delivers everything all 4 cats need every month. And if any particular cat decides to be a piggy, they'll deliver early and within a couple of days via FedEx. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I purchased a fleece jacket last fall in their Philadelphia store. Through one of the toughest winters in memory, that jacket kept me warm and was a perfect fit - for less than $20. I'm buying most of my fall and winter clothes here now.
