“What a Ride”

Kylo R.

So here I was banging this... lets say... girl of the night, then suddenly her "manager" comes in and gives her the strong right back hand. She's laying on the ground crying, I'm trying to decide if I should be mad or turned on, and if that isn't weird enough he stops checks his phone and says ahh Sh** its on, blob crash. We're sitting there a couple minutes then he screams he** yes, after three years we just won the server! Curious I ask what its all about and he steers me to this 1984 browser game. Intrigued, I tried it out, and much like how I came too be there I didn't really enjoy it at first but the more I played the more I liked it! Now been playing for a little bit, found a good group and taking over galaxies and posting crappy means on AEU. Oh, and I did get a refund from the manager for those that were curious.

“Game play is ok but the rest is a joke”

Admins and their friends will befriend you and turn on you for credits in a browser game. They prove consistently that they have no morals and it is pathetic because it is just a browser game. You will constantly be fighting players that use multi accounts and are way higher level than you. They are cowards that are afraid of a fair fight in a game. Complete waste of your time and money.

If you are the type of person that is highly competitive, have questionable morals, are satisfied with delayed gratification, fine with browser based games and are okay with toxic people, this is most likely the game for you!

As a grunt you will spend the majority of your time keeping queues full and chasing guild mates and enemies for rank. There is a community discord to sh*tpost and opine on most relevant servers and a variety of non—game related topics.

There is a learning curve getting comfortable with the game dynamics and best min-max but a good guild can get you squared away quickly.

For people who want to eventually lead down the line, there is some high level strategy and politics involved. But you must have unshakable mental stability and an ability to navigate skeevy allies, foes and newbs. If you experience mental breaks easily, avoid leadership at all costs. Alternatively, play this game to test the mental stability of your guild leadership.

If you are prone to addiction, this game may be an inescapable blackhole for you.

I've played Astro Empire for more than I'd care to admit. In all that time it has been my crutch, my gateway to a better existence and a way to help with my crippling depression and anxiety. I've met some fantastic people. Sure the gameplay, graphics, anti-cheat, server quality/stability, plot, progression, NPC's, Updates, Game Staff, Forum Staff may be complete dog but it's really the community that provides a full package.

And the community is very helpful. From delusional lunatics to self-obsessed minor celebrity sociopaths there is every kind of misanthropic personality you could possibly think of in the unofficial discord which houses the majority of the community.

A must play game!

The GM's actively support Jewish Supremacy

The game itself isnt deep at all and whoever recruits the most people wins the server, once the server is broken you have to start again on another

One of the best MMO's I've ever known. I've only been playing for 2 years, I'm only level 51, I don't use scripts or multis and I've only been attacked 7 times. Most players forget that this game is a marathon and not a race. That is why many complain that they are constantly being attacked, as long as they build the empire in order to avoid being profitable, they will rarely be attacked. There will always be exceptions, but as a rule a good player, on top, only attacks for profit!

It's competitive and high stakes. You want to build your empire fast and efficiently, because trust me, almost everyone else playing is. It requires intelligence, teamwork, communication, strategy, determination to be successful. There is new servers released at intervals. You might need to play a few servers to become a strong player and to find a strong guild.

Let me tell you a tale of the best game ever. It is called, Astro Empires. Let me tell ya, this community of hard core and dedicated gamers that span this space epic are some of the warmest hearted, unique, kind of something wonderful characters one wants on an online forum.

I have spent so many hours playing this game, everyone is like family. So kind and supportive to new players, if you tell them where your bases are, they will show you what you're doing wrong. Never will you find a community so eager for new folks to join and build up above level 30. So eager for folks to let them know when they do, too, so they can welcome you to what the game is all about.

Admin are TERRIBLE. Game is plagued by cheats who feed themselves with multiple accounts, share accounts with guildmates and try to dominate others and kill the game. They're main players pay for upgrades and they're friendly with the admin/developers and get away with this, while new players are instantly farmed, punished, or banned if they try to do anything against these cheats.
Why do I care?!? The saddest part of this game is the core gameplay is solid, addictive and can really challenge your brain when played properly. It needs updating more, it needs modern 2FA or something to get rid of the cheats and it needs a developer who cares about their player base and actually getting more players. Ffs developer just sell this to someone who knows how to run a game and provide customer service. Before your world implodes with your arrogance and pathetic bias!

This game is like the Vikings in space. It is a math strategy game about profit & loss, where players attack, pillage, pirate & recycle other players stuff for profit and use those profits to improve their empire. Aggressive Players can grow a strong empire fast. It's a survival of the fittest type of game. If you have a weak mental this game isn't for you. My advice for new players is join a guild on Alpha server or the newest server and visit AE community discord channel. There's a channel designated for new players wishing to learn more about the game. Activity is key in this game. It's browser based so can be accessed by phone or computer. I prefer phone but more features are available if you play by computer. As I read through the negative reviews trashing on game it made me wonder if those players were farms and never learned the fundamentals. Players that get farmed typically have a "my way" approach that leads them to get farmed server after server. Don't blame the game, it's balanced for free accounts. It's like $30 a year if you choose to upgrade which gives you a few extra features.

Tip for consumers:
Join a guild and let them know that you are new.

I've played this game over 15 years and enjoyed it very much. Until one enemy player started to fake report my guildmates of using multiple accounts. Even the evidence of my guildmates wasn't even enough to keep the admins from saving their accounts which they build up for 15 years. When the admins were asked for proof for banning, they simple gave nothing and said another admin has the proof. And that is done to players who play your game for 15 years and pay every year for a yearly upgrade. In the end, my guildmates sent proof and no $#*!s were given. They showed us none and still got the accounts deleted

Fun fact: the fake reporter still plays the game and continue to harras other players and accusses them of being multi's.

Stay clear if you dont want to get screwed over by the admins.

AstroEmpires is a hoot. I was put onto the game by a self-loathing friend who has nothing to live for. AE helped him achieve this.

If you find a good group to play with, then it's a good time. A chore. But a (kinda) fun chore.

The pure loss of self worth when you hit the wrong fleet in a crash, compared to that sexy dopamine hit when you get a juicy pillage or a beautiful ratio. It's just a rollercoaster.

For the full AE experience, you have to join the AE Unofficial Discord group. There's never been a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. The most cretinous group of $#*!posters in the world.

I want to hate it, and them… but I can't. Whether I like it or not, I'm trapped here. In an endless cycle of self-loathing, dopamine and $#*!posters.

$#*!.

Tip for consumers:
Don’t get triggered. It only makes us feel better about ourselves.

Its my favorite game, i have an acount on all servers, if you like to float in spacetime for decades? This is your kinda game. It never ends, you just keep growing and growing, tip: join only guilds that play all servers, as all the others are obvious fails. Took me 3 servers to get the hang of it... any initial mistake you make you can fix. Just join and enjoy.

If you don't pay out the arse for their upgraded accounts, you'll spend your entire game on here being occupied and struggling to do anything at all.
Free accounts are just meat for upgraded accounts to grab hold of.
The servers are dying (some are already dead) and the latest updates have made it even more ridiculous.

Might be worth a 1 time payment like minecraft, but them expecting ongoing payments when most people end up deleting their accounts anyways, is hilarious.

Tip for consumers:
Look at the list of servers....notice how some only have 1 or 2 players online at a time. You can bet those are the cheating Admins.

Overview:
Astro Empires, or AE, is a free* web based massive multiplayer online (MMO) game. The player takes on the role of a manager of a space empire, colonizes new worlds, manages their economy, builds fleets and destroys other players' fleets. All this occurs in real time.
The playing world consists of a universe made up of 90 galaxies. Each galaxy is divided into 99 sectors, each sector has a random number of stars and each star can support a random number of colonizable planets. There are currently 9 universes with new ones opening about once or twice a year. Players can move between galaxies in the same universe, but cannot move between universes. To play in a different universe players require what is in effect a new account. Upgrades paid for in one universe do not cross over to others.
++++++++++++
Free play vs. upgraded play:
Upgrades come in 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year increments ranging from 3.99 to 19.99 Euros. There are significant bonuses for upgrading an account, such that a player with a free account could never compete with a player with an upgraded account. So while it is possible to play for free and have some enjoyment, most serious players upgrade their accounts. Upgraded accounts have unrestricted building, unlimited number of bases, longer queues, scanners that detect incoming enemy fleet and a host of tools that make managing your empire easier. Free accounts also have ads, which can actually put players at a major disadvantage in combat where page load times are crucial.
++++++++++
Real Time:
When I say real time, I mean real time. It can take months of real time to construct a building on a planet. It can take many months to construct the largest ships, or to research new technologies. It is not uncommon that a player will lose a hundred days' worth of fleet in less than a minute of combat. For many people this is frustrating enough to quit the game over, for others it provides a rush of high stakes play.
+++++++++
Game Play and UI:
The game play is somewhat similar to Tribal Wars, but slightly deeper and space themed. Actual game play is very simple, and often times frustrating. I would describe AE as a slow rock paper scissors in space. Each type of ship (and there are 20) has another ship that tears it apart, while it destroys other types with minimal losses. As such, combat is a simple matter of choosing the best ship to tear apart defending fleet. Ultimately, I find combat dull and repetitive.
But to make matters worse the user interface is terrible. For example: In order to move a fleet (arguably the most basic action in the game), a player needs to click on the location with the fleet, then click on the fleet, then click the move button, then find the coordinates of the landing zone, then copy those coordinates into a box, then choose how much fleet to move, then click send. Yes, a minimum of 7 steps to do the most basic action. There are many instances where the UI could be greatly improved. The good news is that AE admins are ever so slowly improving it.
Why would anyone play such a horrible game, you may be wondering? It is a social game. Like most MMOs it is the meta-game that keeps people playing. There is always heavy politics. Players can form, join and leave guilds at will and the political intrigue this creates is where the game comes to life. People need you, and you have to log on for all your virtual space friends, and so you are hooked.
+++++++++++++
Service:
AE has, in my experience been fair and forthright. They have always charged the agreed upon amount. They have never auto charged my credit card. They have never taken away my upgrade. They do have the power to suspend or fine players for rule breaking, which they do frequently. I have never seen a case where someone was suspended without cause. They have never sent me spam, or sold my email address as far as I can tell.
+++++++++
Summary:
AE is a horribly slow paced game with simple strategy and horrible UI. People play because they form bonds with other people. UI is improving, but too slowly and the major gripes will likely never be addressed. The game play is somewhat similar to Tribal Wars, but slightly deeper and in space. The price for an upgrade is fairly cheap, but fluctuate based on the exchange rate. Over all, AE is among the most solid free MMOs online right now, despite the free option being crippled. I give it a 3 of 4 stars.

The admins are bad, the game is somewhat outdated, and the community is shrinking.
However the game's core mechanics and gameplay, along with it's lack of "Pay to Win*" make it the best of the pMMORTS genre. (Persistent massively multiplayer real time strategy.)

There are some cheating factions, as another review complained. However they are small in number and the cheating has greatly decreased in the last year and a half due to various circumstances.

This being said, you NEED to find a guild if you want to compete/ enjoy the game, it's a social game not a single player game, and from what I see above most of those players tried to solo the game, and thus got destroyed. Don't do that.

(*Upgrades are essentially pay to play, and are not needed all the time, only when big hits are made to build new bases)

I can say a lot about AE. I played it over a year, including 1 year upgraded. Actually, it had much potential. But there are countless problems. In the end it's a endless disappointment like the most other online games.

Apart from arbitrarily support, cheating and scripting, the game itself is affected by massive micro-management. If you want to play active and successful, you have hundreds of appointments ingame where some little thing has to be clicked. It's a bad handling and a waste of time, cause it wasn't completely dev'ed.

As a result, you need a mass of time and often the whole day is determined by it. You don't play AE when you have time. You have to direct all your daily scheduling to AE. It's important to remember, that it takes much time to learn this complexly game anyway, and it takes time to socialize ingame too.

Furthermore, there is a problematic relationship between free acc's and upgrade acc's, as well as inactive accounts and NPC's. Personally, I find the community degenerated, the few active players in 2019 consider it like a private playground.

All these problems aren't resolved by joining a guild.(!)

This is unacceptable today. At least, AE doesn't deserve to be called "MMO". Why the dev's do nothing is speculation.

Only a place for gaming addicts and loosers without real life. Ultimately - keep your life and time and never try it.

The game itself is fine... it would even be fun, but the community sucks a big one. Now I find out that the reason it sucks is because some of the long time players are cheating. Some are admins.
I have 2 paid accounts on two different servers and encounter the same $#$$%$ players and guilds who make life miserable... DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME... you will hate it after the first 15 levels when you become constant FOOD for the #$^#& monster accounts and guilds. I am going to close my accounts and waste the money I spent... I suggest EVERYONE stay away and let the %^$&%$ players have it all to themselves. And let it die!

This used to be a great game. But for the last year the server performance has dropped dramatically so bad that a simple large fleet crash is no longer possible. There is also evidence that players are allowed to become admins causing those sorts of problems.

Its just another tick game which gets worse the more you play it. Admittedly, upgrading your planets and queing up fleets is fun. Watching numbers go up is somehow entertaining. But the game as a whole is just broken. There are good untis and bad units, there ar ecertain ways you HAVE TO BUILD or youre just going to get anihilated. It makes the variation of ships and structures in the game meaningless.

There are penalties for attacking players lower level then you because it would be terribly frustrating if thye didnt etc.

The admins are just corrupt. They ban you for anything and they give free accounts and perks to thier friends who are playing. You have to join a guild, give out sexual favors or be butt rammed by everyone around you. Its the online space game equivalent of being in a supermax prison for murder. Its ridiculous.

I give it 2 start however for a couple of innovative things I saw that more games should have.

1) Your bases and planets are never "destroyed" when attacked, they are "Occupied" by another player. You can still build up (even make ships to fight back) and do everything else but the occupier is taking a percentage of your income while he occupies you. This is a great feature of any game like this as it makes it so that even if youre being butt rammed by god level players... your game isn't destroyed and you havn't lost your hard work. Your fleets are still wiped out however.

Even so, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who isn't versed in Mafia Politics.

Astro Empires game is a good game. My complaints is in how they ban people from playing. Two of us in the same family play the game, so we play on the same LAN. They then say it is account sharing because we have the same ip address. Our only option was to have upgraded accounts so we could continue playing. So we then pay for the upgraded accounts. Now a few months down the line the suspend us again with the same reasons. This is just a money making scheme, where they give family members the option of playing together by making them pay, and then suspending them once they receive payment

I spent almost 5 months playing AE to see if this game is as bad as many reviewers had described. Sadly, they were right. I'm not new to these browser strategy games, so in the 5 months I played very thoughtfully in building and investing in research to gain technology. I built a sizeable respectable fleet for my level. In AE, you can see what your tech level., fleet size, economy level is compared to other players. I was attacked by a player who was only 1.2 levels above me and he wiped me out because as big as my fleet was (over 10 cruisers, 600 fighters/bombers, 20 destroyers), he had over 25 battleships. I know he must had cheated because I did the math and there was no way any free playing player at his level could had generated enough in game resources AND time to build 25 battleships. If I had put every resource credit my empire generated into building battleships, I might had been able to build 4. I should had suspected this game very early on because there is a ticker-tape like announcement of major battles on the game page where losses are displayed between players in the battle and you can see the big cheaters have fleets of over 2,000 ships with losses just as high and they constantly battle it out everyday so how are they able to build thousands of ships everyday? Simple - cheating.

Once upon a time this was a great game and i very much enjoyed playing, however with the opening of its new server Pegasus, ready made guilds, underhanded tactics including account hijacking, blatant abuse of multi accounts, innocent players banned due to being set up by said multies, this game has died of player induced cancer and admins refusing to listen or take action.
As a new player you have zero chance even if you're crazy enough to pay for an upgrade.
It's the same experienced players that start in pre arranged galaxies with their pre made guilds and just lay waste to everyone else in what seems absolute record times now.
If you don't believe me, just do a google search for astroempires reviews.
The AE Forums i no longer read because of the utter imbecile rubbish and name calling that gets spewed forth makes me feel ill.
I'm about to delete my last remaining AE account, knowing i will never return.
For those not convinced, you're welcome to join and find out for yourself BUT! Be warned, play a free account until you're over level 30 and if you've survived that long and still find the game enjoyable, then by all means pay for an upgrade and good luck.
