This site is in India, one of several Indian booksellers offering cheaply produced copies of textbooks to the USA. These are "international editions", which aren't generally authorized for sale in the USA or Canada and may be infringing copyright and trademark laws. Only this particular site uses the term "International Economy Edition". You should assume that the economy edition is going to be a cheaper version of the standard international edition, for which there really isn't a standard, other than that it's cheap.

They make clear in their terms (which incidentally have been 'borrowed' from another site) that their trade is subject only to the laws of State of Uttar Pradesh, where they are based. They don't make clear that the "TrendMicro Secure Site" badge they display doesn't belong there. They do show that PayPal is now available, but they don't make clear that it is the sole option. You should know that there is no buyer protection from PayPal on this site. If they once had a shopping cart of their own, as they claim, it is long gone as is the anonym.com website that produced it.

But understand, that whatever the failings here, they do tell you that the books are cheap, that they may be printed in greyscale (no color, and by inference, on cheap paper) and that the ISBN numbers are different from the authentic originals. They don't hide their location in India, or that your dealings with them are subject only to their laws. It is their responsibility to tell you these things, which they do. It is your responsibility to pay attention, when they do. When you purchase online, regardless of what the website appears to be, only their terms and conditions, if they bother to provide any, should influence your dealings with them. Not the glossy pictures, not the bright colors, not the cool layout or the clever technology used to display the goods or any of that. Not even the prices. Especially not the prices. There must be some other good reason to deal with them *over and above going somewhere else*, because once you've done the deal, you can't go around to their store or warehouse or factory in person and ask for your money back.

If you didn't notice that the goods here were very cheap imitations of western editions, made in India, don't be too hard on yourself as an awful lot of people miss this sort of thing, and not just on this site. Just remember to look around, next time, and read the small print. If there's anything to beware of, it's going to be in the Terms of Use (or Terms and Conditions), in the About Us and/or FAQ pages if they are there, and anything else in text, such as Privacy or Shipping terms. Often, as here, sites use text taken from other sites and just replace bits as needed. So if you see a text that looks identical to one on another site, there's a reason, but it may not be entirely identical all the way through. Be careful.

I could spend a lot longer trying to explain what to look for. But the basic rule is the one I mentioned above. If you've never dealt with a website before, and you don't know anyone else who has, and you don't know its reputation, in fact you've never even heard of it, then is there some reason you need to deal with it, *over and above going somewhere else*?
