Because listia only gets paid from the websites and companies that advertise on their site. If they require you to verify with facebook, then they are automatically always making money off you. Part of the scam

You can only be telephone verified if you live in the USA or Canada, another example of Listia's xenophobia. Listia is an advertising partner with Facebook, hence the Facebook verification. But none of the verifications offer ANY protection. If like me you don't use Facebook, create an account on Facebook, verify, and then disable the Facebook account (keeping in mind that Facebook will not delete the account you created, even if you ask them to).

You dont have to persay, but 97.5% of the global population ages 12-65 have a facebook account. So since nearly everyone on earth has an account, they ask that you connect it because it helps prove you are who you say

You dont have to join facebook, some members like to see as many badges they can, but not all, if you verify your bank and phone usually thats enough. There are many members here that have huge feedback numbers and never did facebook or twitter but did bank and phone and if you a new member at least do the 2 i mentioned and ans any questions in your auctions and complete a few with positive results and people wont care about fb and twitter. Hope this helps its not as good as it was when i joined, they change rules without notice and the credit value has dropped a bit last 2 months.

Tish p You don't have to join facebook in order to join Listia. You can go to Listia.com and follow the prompts. You want to get verified so longtime users of the site will trust you and your auctions. You don't get a badge when you re verified, what verification does is guarantee the seller the winning credits that are bid, It also lets the seller know tht the mailing address belongs to a certified member and not a scammer.In fact facebook people with no verifications are not trusted and bids on their sites are low if any at all.
