I've used AOTY for about 4 or so months, and I'm happy with my experience!
It's easy to contribute to the database, and the users are usually pretty friendly. The reviews for albums are usually failed attempts at humour, pretentious, or personal journals for users, so I tend to avoid the review sections for albums
The site is slightly tricky to navigate, but you start to understand it after a few days.
The album charts, put best, suck. There's no weighing, meaning that an album with 20 ratings, and one with 10,000 can be right next to each other so long as they have the same score. The filter options are very limiting, and in order to find the chart for a genre not featured on the shortlist, you have to find the genre page and go from there. It's not an easy experience, and I wish they'd adapt a similar chart feature to rate your music, where you can easily filter based on year, genre, and descriptors
Profile customisation is limited, but a fantastic feature is being able to include your 5 favorite albums on your profile! It's the first thing people notice when clicking on your profile, so I think it's great that you can make that part of your profile, being able to express your personality and interests in that way
That's all I have to say about AOTY
The ratings are horrible and the searching system is bad. Also the users are actually not as nice as the ones on RYM.
