I bought 2 female "blue tailed skinks" from these guys on April 6th (just shy of 2 weeks ago). They didn't specify which species, but their picture was of a hatchling southeastern blue tail, a species which I am trying to breed. I intended to keep these 2 females together in a 40 gallon, so that was the set up I had for them. They were just short of 90$ after shipping. I planned to breed them with my male of the species.

Imagine my surprise when I recieve 2 adult African blue tails, labeled as pacific blue tails on the cups. Both are wild caught, ive mostly left them alone since i got them because of that. One appears sick and lethargic now, but both do eat. The sick one has obvious injuries where a predator bit it at one point, fairly recently though it's scarred over now. I couldn't cohab them so I had to buy a whole new set-up (another 350$, this which I couldn't afford with a vet visit and as such I haven't gotten them to the vet yet).

I reached out to the seller twice. Once was the day I got them, asking for some details about them. Are they siblings, how old etc. I hadn't caught on that they're wild caught at the time. The second email was today, letting them know these are the wrong species and I was concerned because their husbandry was so different that if I cared for them as Pacific's, it'd probably kill them.

My hopes are low that they'll get back to me. I don't even expect a refund since they did technically send me blue tailed skinks. But it'd be nice if they'd allow for returns or something since I effectively wasted 90$ on a species I didn't intend to buy.

I do think they should really have labeled them with the Latin name on the website to avoid these issues in the future. I learned from this, always do your research on a supplier before getting reptiles from them.

Tip for consumers:
Always do your research on who you're buying from. Blackwater is a "drop shipper", which means they list the animals and then have a different person ship them to you from a different facility entirely. They aren't likely breeders. I wish I'd known that, so I'm telling you.
