“Wonderful webcomic host w/ some drawbacks”

Cassandra C.
5/25/21

It's a smaller site run by one person who is determined to give webcomic creators' a safe haven to host where they can customize their website with few restrictions. There's some knowledge with CSS and HTML required if you want to get really creative, but the site has plenty of templates and easy-customization for those who know nothing about HTML. The pros and cons of the smaller size means that your comic can more easily be spotlighted. Newly updated comics get defaulted to the front page, so it gives everyone a fair shot at being discovered, but it also means that your readership will be limited unless you network your comic outside of the website onto larger sites. A big part of the website is the forum community, which is a mixed bag. There are some very awesome and welcoming members who will engage with you and help you out with any questions you have. Just be aware that, just with any social circles, there's a fair share of cliques and negative nancies that will give you a hard time if you say something they don't like, as the political atmosphere leans very far one way (you can guess which), but if you avoid politics or current events and only engage in the games and comic related discussions, you'll do alright.

“Biased admins”

Kyle B.
4/26/22

Toxic website in which the admins ban innocent people without substantial proof. In this case, their sole "proof" was an IP address from a user that uses a VPN. They completely dismissed proofs that IPs can be masked, hacked, and more. After a long convo, it was clear they just wanted to be done with it. They're not protecting a community by banned someone who was clearly hacked. They're playing right into that person's hand.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid the site at all cost. Your account is easy to compromise and the admins will not believe you, nor care about you.

Comic fury isn't a bad site to host your site. The community isn't generally bad either unless you're a far right person. It's a niche little site but not completely off the map, the forum is semi active and friendyly. As someone who used to host there years ago and only hosts on Drunk Duck now it should be warned that the person who created this site stole code set up this site after literally hacking and sabotaging Drunk Duck comics site for a year. That's right, they literally put the Drunk Duck comics site out of commission by hacking it and it was down for a year or so. Then they used that golden opportunity to set up comic fury. Despite it's shady beginnings it's not a bad site, the mods are also not super active or aggressive despite the darkness that this site was spawned from. If you want to host, go ahead, you may like it, but I can't host there again.

Psychotic hive mind, can be baned from one day to another just because they don't like your face. Avoid the forum at all costs.

The mods like to read PMs and user activity, don't put too much info into this site. Forums kind of boring but non controversial. The comic editing is pretty good and unique. Look at it a palatable place to put up one of your mirrors but don't PM anything about yourself

Decent hosting site but stay off forum. Filled with LGBTQ confessions and games and if you aren't a liberal drone you are labelled a fascist. Seems to be mainly doodlers with few real artists. No useful threads, just games.

This has basically been said before. About it being a good hosting site but bad for chatting among fellow comic creators. Seriously, unless you are prepared to spam the forum and put up with trolls who rule the roost. Don't go in there. I gave it a few tries and just gave up when I couldn't take the verbal abuse any more. All ComicFury is good for is the simple matter of it's existence. This is coming from a person who originally was using Comic Genesis for hosting. This site doesn't require downloading a specific FTP program that is a pain to work with for proper results. While coding is made out to be simple to work with on this site, if you want a really cool presentation for your comic's site. Either learn some in depth coding or hire some one who can code in depth.

The community sometimes gets a bad rap, but this is usually from people who go out of their way to cause trouble in the forums, or break the rules in other ways that should be obvious. (Such as trying to post CP.) Previous issues with drama and trolls are by now old news.

The community is one of the most active and helpful of all the hosting sites I've joined, and the site has a lot to offer by way of customisation. The forums are alive, unlike those of many sites and if you need help with something, someone will always be there to offer it. Though small compared to giants like Tapas and Webtoon, ComicFury boasts a wide variety of content for readers.

They may be popular at the moment, but the fact that you must act like them just to post is whats going to ruin them. They pick and choose who is alllowed to bully/troll and make up assumptions to punish you with. Waste of time, you can find the same comics elsewhere.

With no visible means of support other than hidden adverts, there is no profit motive. As a result the community is subject to the ideology of the mods.
Any comic worth reading hosted has mirrors elsewhere. Avoid.

I started hosting my comic on CF back in 2015, and while I do have my own website and mirrors, this is the community I call home. I love Tapas, too, but as for the forums I get nervous with their size. Over the years, I've managed to stay out of the forum "drama" just fine. Granted, I understand my alignment lies with many in the community, but I've gotten a long with some of the more conservative members, too (most of the drama is when people are trolling to get a rise out of people, I've found, which is a problem found on any site on the Internet).

Forums aside, this website is one of the few where the person running it actually LISTENS to what the people want, and tries to implement changes. Want a dark mode? Dude coded it and made it available. Want to customize what updates you have? You got it. Oh, the updates and notifications just got a fantastic, well organized upgrade, too, and this year per the request of the community (and through our support), the whole server was able to be moved to an new one which now makes the site "https" (secure) where it wasn't before. This was because a lot of us wanted to be able to run advertisements and have a secure url to ensure readers/visitors feel safe when surfing the site.

Point is, if you want more control over your web comic page's appearance and someone who actually listens to what people want (versus most platforms where they constantly tell you what is and isn't gonna be done with the site-I'm looking at you Tapas), I would highly recommend this site, and encourage others to spread the word.

As for the forums, if you want to avoid drama, it's not as hard as some would have you believe. If you want to stir crap, people are going to react. I've managed to navigate several forums and rarely have problems, even when people have adverse opinions to me. As with anything, one's interactions tend to hinge on their tone and how they engage. But none of that has anything to do with hosting a comic: this site's fair update advertising on the main page is something that I appreciate. There's no favoritism when it comes to style and subject: when you update is when you get on the front page. And I like that. I love how I've been able to tailor my comic page to reflect my own tastes (garish as they may be), and I like that I can interact with a wide variety of readers and other comic creators.

5 stars, highly recommended. The rules on what you can and can't post are made clear if you read the site info. No CP is pretty much the only thing I've seen not allowed. Other than that, I personally haven't seen too much censorship of the comics themselves.

Wow, this survey doesn't really fit the "product" being offered o_O It's a free hosting site, not a ship-able product. I mean, I'm sure people "ship" characters XD But not the actual site.

Shipping time: as long as it takes you to get your pages up!

As for refund policy: you can cancel and delete your comic any time you want.

The community is one of the most welcoming, kindest, funniest, smartest communities I've ever had the privilege of being part of. I feel whoever wrote a negative review had one bad experience - maybe didn't understand someone's sense of humor? - and left. There are some unique kinds of people in ComicFury that I don't often experience anywhere else, so I find that highly likely. There's a lot of joking around, and a newcomer who's not very good at reading people over the internet could leave with an awful impression given some unfortunate luck.

Every community has its drama. The ComicFury forum actually has so, SO much less drama than I could ever expect! It happens every once in a while obviously (like... maybe once a month as far as I've seen - *if* even that often) but it usually stays contained in a single thread from my experience - and as soon as it gets harmful or out of hand, Kyo (CF's admin) shuts it down immediately. In fact, Kyo himself is a huge reason to choose this site! He's constantly active, and in the many years I've been in CF, he's proven himself to be levelheaded, reliable, and honest. He keeps a close eye on the community and is always ready and happy to help with whatever problem you have with the site. (speaking of, as of November 2019, CF is the last remaining webcomic host to give you your own fully customizable domain!) He never stirs up trouble and, like I said, instead shuts down drama when it happens. I've never seen a website admin act as responsibly as he does.

I think the high quality of the community is due to the tiny size, which is obviously a problem if you're trying to get popular or make any kind of monetary profit... but you can always mirror on other sites. The community has been 1000% a positive experience for me - I've learned a lot about so many different things and had so much fun! It's worth it for every experience besides popularity.

The webcomic hosting is actually very good. You get your own site and it is neatly arranged and easy to navigate. If you have the skills you can even edit the code yourself. It's free and there are no ads.
But the community is one of the most toxic I have seen in a long time. Even the most innocent forum post can get you into a flame war. I've seen even the nicest people become socially outcast for one slip up.
They also have confusing rules for when you can get banned and your comic deleted. The rules don't say exactly what isn't allowed, so it can happen at any time if a mod doesn't like what they see, and, from what I've witnessed, it doesn't look like you even get a chance to dispute it.
TLDR; Just use it for hosting and post the links elsewhere. And have a mirror up and running just in case.

This site is run by one person and several trusted creators have had bad experiences here. The admin has a chequered history in the webcomics community but you won't hear anything about that on the forum. If you're only hosting you should be fine, but have a mirror just in case.

Comic Fury is a FREE webcomic hosting site. It's easy to use & most of the users are encouraging and helpful. People make webcomics for the passion of the art. The website's owner (?) /creator is Kyo: he most times has a strong opinion about things but he's honest and truly cares about things running smoothly. I've been hosting my comic there for over three years now, and I think the site only crashed (if that's the correct term or down for maintenance) ONCE. Couldn't ask for a better free service PLUS I've met a ton of comic aficionados who slowly have become my friends. I don't usually take the time to write a review like this, but this site truly deserves all the praise and more.

I have no idea what kind of experience the other reviewer has had with ComicFury to leave such a bad impression on them. There are many talented artists there as well as a great deal of exceptional comics.

The interactions I've had with people have been overwhelmingly positive. Members of the site are exceptionally friendly, but may joke with you when you first join for light conversation. It's certainly not trolling. The moderators on the site are very good at keeping things civil. I've never been insulted. In fact, members of the site have actually helped me through rough times in my life. I would say they have contributed greatly to my overall happiness.

That being said, I would recommend going around the forums with a little bit of caution. Like the other reviewer said, people do indeed have the tendency to swear. But as I said before, I've never really seen people insult others there or make crude jokes.

If you're looking to host a comic, ComicFury is among the best sites for that. If you're looking to connect with a friendly and active community of fellow artists, this is definitely a place for you.

(I'm writing this on my phone, so if there's any formatting issues, apologies in advance.)

I've been an active member of this community for around 8 months now. To be completely honest, I only clicked on this link because I was curious and was trying to google something else. People seem to have bad experiences on this website, and I don't fully understand why, so I'll throw in my two cents.

COMIC HOSTING-
This is the reason I joined in the first place. The amount of freedom this hoster gives you is insanely nice- and it even has a "simple layout editor" for those folks like me who's experience in coding can be summed up in "wow, I can't do this." Almost everything is customizable. It doesn't force you to resize pages. Little things like that make it great.
Of course, if popularity is what you're worried about, then this probably isn't the site for you unless you're prepared to do some hard advertising on other websites. The community is pretty small, so getting a couple hundred subs is a great achievement.

COMIC READING-
I can say first hand that there are some masterpieces on this website. I've had some excellent reads. Google comicfury comics if needbe, but even if you're not a fan of the site itself, I'd go check them out.

COMMUNITY-
Here's where things get awfully subjective. This community is far from perfect, and I'll admit this straight out. The website has a habit of worrying about whether or not "it's dying" every few months, and usually every couple there's a big drama-filled thread that sours the atmosphere for a while. The website is often complained about as being "cliquey" and things like that. And yes, if you have a problem with swearing, I'd stay away. I'm a pretty bad offender myself.
HOWEVER
As someone who has forced their way into the community, you'll find some amazing people if you try to talk to them. I talk to people on that website probably daily now, because they're just so. Cool. I've not actually met anyone I couldn't straight up stand, and anyone who I dislike I can just ignore their posts. I realize not everyone does this, so when something happens it happens fast and hard, but it's really simple enough to just ignore it.
Of course, if you actually want to talk about comics, those threads exist too. You can do exchanges or things like that with your comic if you desire.

SO:
It's a very subjective choice here, however I don't believe this website deserves the two and a half stars it currently has, so... here you go?
