“Great Company”

Dave L.
6/17/21

The negative reviews here are by unverified purchasers. I question their authenticity. I've been using GG for 2 1/2 years now and everything has been exceptional. The meat is extremely good as is the produce. I've had one delivery late by 30 minutes (it was snowing). My regular driver likes to deliver early, so he sends me a text asking if I'm up. If he doesn't get a reply he delivers as scheduled. If I'm up, showered and dressed, it's no problem for me. All the drivers have been fun to deal with. I eat a lot of bacon because my doctor is constantly complaining that my sodium is too low. In all this time I've received one package that I thought was too fat. That's out of hundreds of packages. I had one order that was short 4 apples. I got a credit right away for my next order. The ice cream is still very much frozen when I get it. I ordered once from a competitor because GG's payment processor was down. Never again, if I can help it. The meat wasn't as good and the produce was kind of questionable. Plus the driver was grumpy. As of this writing, Longo's (Grocery Gateways parent company) has just been 51% purchased by the parent company of Sobey's. I really hope they don't change anything. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The delivery driver of my last two orders was nothing short of lazy and incompetent. Rather than delivering to my lobby per the company's COVID-19 protocol, he made me go outside and walk past the next building to look for him! Then, GGs "customer service" rep was totally patronzing when I called to complain. I have a disability and REFUSE to be treated in this manner. Besides, GG is ultra expensive. Do yourself a favour and use another grocer..

Grocery Gateway is expensive and for paying top dollar they consistently deliver garbage produce, dented cans, expired or near-expired products and when you call to complain, they refuse to ever give a refund, after arguing with the customer service rep you MIGHT be offered an online store coupon... which means you have to place another minimum $50 to redeem what might be a $10 coupon which means you'll have to endure the whole receiving garbage all over again. They are by far THE ABSOLUTE WORST grocery delivery in Toronto and I have used EVERY grocery delivery service. Walmart grocery delivery is infinitely better - and a lot cheaper - then them! They should be ashamed of that - being outdone by Walmart.

I ordered a bag of their limited edition, gold nugget oranges that are supposed toi be sweet ande easy to peal and they were as hard as a rock and impossible to peal and they wouldn't credit me. I ordered 3 cases of adevertised Nestle water (24) advertised for membersw $3.99, non members $4.99 and they charged me $5.99. It says memebersof which I collect points which as far as I'm concerned is a memeber and I was refused the difference. This week at Walmart the same water is $2.49 for anyone. Call in order or pick up.

Tip for consumers:
Many products are over priced and better purchased elsewhere.

As a senior without a car I have used Grocery Gateway for about 12 years. It was absolutely wonderful, They never made mistakes and always delivered on time, produce was always fresh. The website was reasonably easy to use.
The last couple of months have been extremely frustrating. Many items out of stock. Many discontinued. I couldn't even get toothpaste of any kind on my last order. Even the website is hard to maneuver. I can't find items (maybe they just don't carry them any longer).
I have no idea what is going on, but since I have to shop from home, my only choice is to check out other delivery systems. I feel that GG has abandoned customer service, what a huge, huge disappointment.

I used Grocery-gateway for the first time a couple of week ago. The idea is great and for the convenience the price is not bad or so I thought. When I got my order all the produce had already turned or was bruised or was at the end of its shelf life. The bananas had been frozen making them uneatable. The tomatoes lasted a day before wilting the lettuce the same. The plums were all bruised again uneatable. In total I probably spent 30-40 dollars in produce. I wrote the company immediately to let them know, hoping to maybe get some of my produce replace. That was over a week ago and no one has even called me back. In effect the 0-40 dollars of uneatable food I have written off which means it cost me close to 50 dollars to have them deliver. 10 dollars lus 40 in baad food
