“Blaming, forceful & unaccountable”

Karen B.
12/18/20

I hired Rodney (Rod) Weller to fit a trim under my metal fence. While doing this, he scratched the fence in multiple noticeable places. He proceeded to blame me for causing the scratches, even though they stretched down behind the trim he'd fitted hours ago. When informed about the damage, he arrived at my gate insisting to be let in to discuss it when I'd told him to arrange a *mutually* convenient time and that I was busy that day. He became intimidating in his persistence and refusal to come back later, so I refused him entry, and instead I sent video footage on email and asked that he send someone else from the franchise to view it. He ceased communicating, instead instructing debt collectors on an as yet unresolved issue, chasing a reduced bill rather than accepting liability, and threatening court action. We shared footage with the franchise's Queensland manager, Simon Vorley, who said he and other staff agreed the damage was caused by Rod, that he was wrong in his handling of the situation, and they apologised on his behalf. We asked Simon to speak with Rod because he could damage the wider franchise's reputation, and we asked for a direct apology. Simon demanded I pay and only then would he ask Rod to consider this. We paid the agreed amount. At no point did we receive an apology or accountability from Rod.
