I joined the Military Book Club because it initially offered 4 books for one dollar, plus an obligation to buy 2 more books over a 2 year period. I directed them to charge the $1, plus shipping charges, to my Paypal account. When I received my Paypal statement, it indicated that the club had charged me full price ($83.42). I immediately contacted the club demanding a refund to my Paypal account. Although they acknowledged the mistake, they would not refund the overpayment. Instead, they gave me "reward points" valued at twice the amount of the overpayment. Then, when I ordered 9 books using only the reward points (balance should have been zero), the club billed me $143.93! After four months of telephone calls and emails to the club, they finally admitted ANOTHER mistake and agreed to zero my balance and close my account if I returned all the books to them. I returned the books, and the tracking number proves that they received them on 1/16/2014. Nevertheless, they are still sending me statements for the $143.93, they have not refunded anything to my Paypal account, and they insist I remain in the club until my account is paid in full.
Although I have saved all of my emails back and forth and have done everything I know to try to resolve this matter, they are now threatening to turn this over to a collection agency and ruin my excellent credit rating over books I have already returned to them. This is the most ridiculously inept company on the internet. CAVEAT EMPTOR! (Buyer beware)
