I gave Jeff a $3200 deposit in July 2023. I have had to run behind him for updates ever since. I still don't have my shades. He said sorry no refunds.

My experience with Shade Doctor-Houston (Jeff Malatak) was NOT the best. After 2 months (July 7-Aug 31), 30 hours and 9 days, my shades were FINALLY completed, although the shades still have ripples. My experience LACKED communication, professionalism, customer service, honesty, preparation, integrity, respect, cleanliness, timeliness, and safety (the wiring of the shades was very unprofessional).

Once the shades were "completed" on 7/12/22, I found rippling in the shades, tiny metal shavings on and in between the paver stones, dirty finger prints on the house and the shade covers, sunflower seed shells spit out on the patio ground, and 4 exposed screws extending out approximately 1 inch (safety hazard). I, the homeowner, cleaned up behind them.

Also, every time we opened and closed the shades, it tripped the breaker and turned off our AC and other appliances in the home. We had to hire our own electrician to correct the issue which was faulty, unprofessional and hazardous wiring in our attic.

On 7/15, I got our final invoice, however I paid for wi-fi connection abilities, and never got it, but that cost was not removed from the bill. That, along with all of the above and MORE, prompted me to send a 4 1/2 page letter detailing every day of our experience with Shade Doctor-Houston along with plenty of photos.

Jeff and Nick came to our home for an inspection on July 19th, which should have been done before sending me an invoice and scheduled Nick to return to fix the problems on July 21st. He No Show, NO called. Finally, he came out on July 23rd and spent 8 hours fixing and correcting all of the previous issues described and found even more issues while at our home. He did a great job doing damage control, however, more of our time gone.

On 8/31, Nick delivered the wi-fi connection device and came to fix the rippling as well. (Rippling as of 09/21/22 is still there)

After planning for 2 days to be off to get our shades installed, it took over 30 hours of our time, time off from work to be more than accommodating to them, 2 No show - NO call appointments, 9 days, 2 months and alot of non-communication and unprofessionalism to get our shades completed. We were out an additional $3,000 to fix the electrical issues and time off from work. However, for our time, Jeff did give us a $300 credit. That is what our time and inconvenience was worth to him. The shades turned out nice, except for the rippling. Was it worth it? You decide. If it is too good to be true, it is.

Our experience with the Shade Doctor was not good and we were highly disappointed. The disappointment came in because of total lack of communication, professionalism, and integrity. First off, we encountered Todd who from my understanding was a Sales/Design Person but I'm gonna call him a "Magician". I say that because once he gets your down payment he disappears into thin air. Communication is cut off. We originally signed the contract with Todd in October 2023. He was clear the job would take 8-9 weeks from contract date. A couple of weeks down the road we decided to add a storm door so Todd came out and remeasured and quickly asked for another 2200.00 for cost of the storm door which I thought was overpriced. We declined to give him anymore money until the job was finished. The day Todd came out to measure for the storm door he was a totally different person than the one we initially encountered. We were shocked. It was almost as if he was pissed off about having to come back out. After all of that, on 12/29 the job was started and they forgot to cut the area out for the storm door which further delayed things because the fabric had to be reordered and resized. To sum it up the job wasn't completed until 2/23, nearly 3 months from the original contract date. This was after multiple calls and text to Jeff the owner of the Shade Doctor for updates. But all were initiated by me the customer. NEVER did I once receive a call from ANYONE at the Shade Doctor for updates, or even a thank you for our business. What I did receive was workers showing up at random times, no updates on when they would be returning, The owner Jeff did mention he would "throw in the storm door for all our troubles." Which was appreciated but I would have much preferred solid communication and courtesy throughout the process. Also, in the end one of the shades is not level and does not fit flush to the floor and we were told the floor is not leveled. I wish this would have been mentioned in the beginning by Todd who initially took measurements and assessed that aspect of the job and he NEVER mentioned the floor was not leveled and there might be a problem. Afterall, that was the whole purpose of adding the shades was to create a living space on our patio that was secure and I would fill safe and secure from any unwanted pest entering. Overall, I think the product is a great product but professionalism, communication and integrity is severely lacking with the Shade Doctor. I am disappointed and expected so much more after spending overly 9,000.00. I WOULD NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE.
