My professor has us work on ALEKS assignments prior to learning about these topics in class. There is no way to learn material other than get practice problems wrong and look at the solution (which, depending on the assignment, isn't always an option). The solutions are wordy yet neglect to explain the conceptual topics they are trying to teach, and instead offer arbitrary problem solving processes that make no logical sense to students who don't already know the material. In terms of organization, I have not been able to find a complete list/syllabus of assignments anywhere on the ALEKS website; the only thing the website shows me is the due date of the next upcoming assignment. This is incredibly frustrating for me because I have occasionally missed assignments, but I have a difficult time finding the assignment when I go back and look for it in order to learn the material in it (even if I am not graded for it). When I miss a practice assignment, I have to go straight to the homework assignment and cannot go back and learn the material first. I am a hardworking student, but I do not understand how anyone is supposed to genuinely learn from this website.
