These barrels are absolutely junk. Iv ordered 3 from them and only ONE has been able to seal. They sent me a replacement for one of them and it still leaked. I lost almost a gallon of honey all over my bar room because of these Chinese barrels. When I told them about the second leaking one they blamed me and stopped relying back to me. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra for a better made barrel.

This customer received a replacement barrel and then after further investigation, we realized they were using them for honey which does not have enough water content to keep the barrel swelled.
Here is the last email we sent without a response. They also can return the barrels as they perfectly good barrels for a refund.
The reason is the water content. The barrel does not have any lining inside it keeps sealed by the wood swelling up.
The honey being thick and having so little water content is not allowing the barrel to stay in a swelled state, it shrinks causing leaks.
If you want to keep honey inside the barrel you need to find a way to keep it swelled. You can try putting wet cloths on top of it all the time, and in a humid room.
Another alternative is to put beeswax on the leaks as the barrel cannot be kept swelled with the honey.
The percentage of naturally occurring water in honey is between 15.5% and 18.6%. Which is a lot lower than what whiskey contains.
I am not sure how honey is aged in barrels but the people who do it probably either glue the staves together or use other methods to keep the barrel swelled.
