McCrea Heating & Air Conditioning was the subcontractor that installed the HVAC system in our new construction home in late fall 2019. In June 2022, the inside A/C unit started making a loud rattling/knocking sound and I could tell the fan/blower was broken, so I called McCrea and they sent a technician out to diagnose the problem. They charged $109.95 for the initial diagnosis, which took about 11 min. They said the A/C blower motor and blower wheel needed to be replaced and estimated the labor for the repair to be $700 and said the parts (which were under warranty) would arrive in 3-5 business days. That seemed pretty expensive to me at the time for labor only, but I figured it must be a complicated, time intensive repair job. But I was wrong.
They returned 8 business days later (3 business days later than their initial estimate) to complete the repair. Even though the repair only took 29 minutes, they still charged me $700--which works out to a rate of $1,400 per hour!
Apparently the "McCrea Way" (as they use for their slogan) is to price gouge their customers. Stay far away from McCrea unless you like being overcharged to an unimaginable degree!
(When I complained, they said it was a "flat rate" for the repair, regardless of how long it takes. But, of course, they know how long that type of repair takes on average and they chose set the flat rate at an exorbitant amount. If they told me up front that the repair, on average, takes only 30 minutes--or even an hour--I would have gone elsewhere. I made the mistake of assuming their labor rates were somewhere in the ballpark of reasonable.)
