They are not transparent about who they are and what they are doing. The man on the phone played it off as if he was the airline company. But all he was doing was making reservation changes that I could have done on my own. I made the mistake of giving him my credit card info and other sensitive info. That's my bad. While he put me on hold, I googled and this site popped up and I read about their tactics. Luckily, he must have put the wrong credit card information because the process didn't go through. When I told him to cancel everything, he got upset and in the end told me "F*** you." I'm too old to let that affect me nowadays so I went ahead and just canceled my credit card. Now my flight reservations is all kinds of messed up.
