My purpose was I wanted to keep my original doorbell and did not want to worry about wiring and installing this. I wanted to use its battery and use for video and surveillance. It works great. The battery is rechargeable and it can be connected to Alexa- you can also ring the bell on the ring and you get alerted thru the app or thru Alexa.
