I booked a hotel and rental car with separate reservations and it was a nightmare to try and cancel. They play the game of sending you back and forth with the hotel, car rental agency, etc. hoping youll give up and will be charged full price. Promised to get back with me and never did. Your much better off booking direct with your hotel or car rental agency even if you have to pay more, then at least you can cancel without a Redicoulous penalty. Believe me if you have any savings at all its not worth it because your trapped and will end up costing you more if you have any changes. Remember to always book direct with a hotel or car rental agency!
