This company sent rancid food product Swanson Coconut Oil) that i got VERY sick on. When I opened it and took a large spoonful it was horribly rancid... or worse (I don't want to even think about that...) I ddin't think quickly enough to spit it out. And I ‘ve ended up with bad food poisoning all day. I've bought the same product from them many times before, so I know what it is supposed to taste like, and this was notwhere like that. It tasted like varnish or something. Really bad.
I understand that things can happen, but when I called the company to complain and told them that their product had made me sick to the point that I threw up and have terrible stomach cramps and splitting headache from food poisoning... their "best offer" was to send a replacement at "no charge" but at a lesser quantity. When I complained They finally said that they'd send the same quantity. That does not make up for food poisoning. When I called back, to talk to a Supervisor, i was told that I could only speak to the rep who answered the phone. After going through the whole story again, they said that, all that a supervisor would authorize was a $15 coupon. That's all the responsibility they took for someone being very sick because of their rancid product. I told everyone I spoke with, that they should check to lot # that this bottle came from to make sure no one else gets a rancid product and food poisoning, but no one took that seriously.
The prices and selection at Swanson Vitamins are good, but it's not worth the risk of receiving rancid products and getting this sick.
I understand that things happen. But, when you inform the company about something as serious as food poisoning, and they do nothing about it, that shows that they are irresponsible about the quality of their products. Their product has seriously damaged my health… ironic for a "health food" company. Amazon or other health food stores might be a bit costlier, but they are more turstworthy and safer. My health is not worth risking anything.
I am going to take legal action. Sometimes that's the only way to get a company to be responsible, and it might help to make changes so that someone else doesn't have to be doubled over in pain over rancid products they send.
For me, I'm just going to sue them. I don't want anyone else to get sick like I did. And, if they don't take responsibility when you talk with them, sometimes they will if you sue them. It will take some work but it's worth it to hopefully make a difference and save someone else from getting sick.
FYI, if anyone else has had a simliar problem, this is where legal documentation, such as legal service is to be sent to, via certified mail. It doesn't go to the corporate office. It goes to their resident agent, not to the online contact or coporate office. I thas to go to the resident agent. I copied all the info further down.
