While arranging for a Sears refrigerator repair, the scheduler asked if I would be interested in a Sears air duct cleaning promotion, $179 for 18 vents and $199 for 20. I scheduled for Thursday morning June 1st even though the scheduler wanted to schedule for Wednesday May 31. The cleaning group called me to confirm Thursday morning at 8am and the scheduler ALSO called me back to confirm Thursday would be fine. I was not home Wednesday, but my husband was. He was awaiting the Sears refrigerator repair service. At the designated time, a Sears truck pulled up outside our home. An enormous man came into the house and started ordering my husband around. "Calvin" said he had been told what he was supposed to do, but he said he wasn't going to do it. He told my husband we needed $3500 worth of services. My husband said no we didn't but Calvin wouldn't leave. He plugged in ear-splitting machinery and proceeded to perform the services I had specifically said he should not. We have a 40 year contract with an HVAC company and they perform services twice a year. In the end, my husband was so intimated by Calvin's size and color, he agreed to pay $2200 to get him out if the house plus a cash bribe (requested by Calvin) to knock $1000 off the $3500 bill. That evening we called Barclay's bank to dispute the charge. We sent a report and receipts to Barclay's Billing Dispute department. They reviewed the documents and told us to work with Sears cleaning company. Barclay's closed our dispute but we are re-petitioning that decision. We called Sears; all our phone numbers have been taken out of their automated system, so we can't easily connect with an agent. We finally found a way into Searscleaning and after explaining our problem, was called back by a first line manager. She was aggressive and rude. She hung up without allowing me to speak. She said my husband should have called the police if he felt so endangered. I phoned our regular HVAC company and asked for an air duct quote. They said "your system is due for its 5 year cleaning; the price is $1145." I was researching information to include with our letter to reopen the disputed Barclay's charge when I found a FOX NEWS - DC Television report from 2019. It highlighted Sears cleaning scams in Prince George's County, our county. It is relatively
Eady to find additional scam reports from other areas of the USA. Absolutely do not use Searscleaning services at anytime for any reason.
